How many people come to this year's spring game?

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on

With the basketball team likely to not make the tourney, and the next big thing coming up being spring practice and 2016 recruiting I can't wait for the first Harbaugh game and April 4th. How many fellow Wolverines do you think will make the trek to Ann Arbor for the dawn of the Hardynasty? I think it depends heavily on the weather. With a 30-40 degree drizzle day, we get roughly 30,000. With a 40-55 degree cloudy day, we get 40K. With a 65-75 degree perfect sunny day we get upwards of 65,000. How many Michigan fans do you think will be there to witness Harbaugh's first time taking the field as a coach?

I'll go with 45,000. Not a fan of the early April game that we seem to do every year. But I understand why we do it earlier than most programs (exam schedule, TV etc,.)

Oh, you're going to go all base-16 on me, huh? :-)

I can't see hex and not think of my very early days in the IT industry ... reading 3270 datastreams for the old green screen terminals ... x'F5C3114040' ...

Back then it was all about preserving network, since that was an expensive resource.  In today's world of "free" internet, few remember how much it used to cost to have a dedicated 56KB line from AT&T.  In the thousands per month.

I feel like a lot of people that can't normally afford tickets or people that have small children love going to this game because it's free. I think if we have a 70 degree day there will be 100,000 people there. If it's cold then we'll have around 50,000. There is just way too much excitement around the football program right now that would make me think there will be less than 50,000 people there. I haven't been to a spring game in years and I will definitely be there this year no matter what the temperature is.

I'll say it: I find it matters very little in the grand scheme of things as to how many people show up to watch a practice in crappy early spring weather. The stadium won't be full. The difference between 30,000 and 50,000 is message board fodder for the offseason, and little more than that.

Sometimes I really do wonder if all of these trivial things fans swear matter to recruits actually do matter to recruits. Because it seems to me that to a kid making a choice about a school, the number of people in the stands for a practice is probably as low on the list as the firmness of the dorm room mattress.

It'd be so damn cool to have over 100k. I hate the SEC but the way they treat their spring games I've always been jealous of (Yes I know the weather is much nicer)

I just hope it's a game. Last year's spring stretchy and punting exhibition in sub-20 degree weather was the lowest of lows. I want to actually be entertained and have a good time.

Harbaugh did spring game drafts at Stanford. They could make such a big a fun event out of this. Stream the draft on MGoBlue.

Also: MBB will be in a postseason tournament. Their season will be done by April 4th if, say, they get to and win the NIT Championship on April 2nd.

Harbaugh is going to invite former players and coaches (IMO) and people are going to want to be a part of the Homecoming!  And they are actually going to play (game conditions) and not the other thing formerly known as the SPRING GAME . . .

But are there still open practices that fans can attend?  I remember going to one in elementary school on a field trip (mid 80's) and it was pretty sweet.  The Stadium was basically empty and we had the run of the place.  Much fun for 9 year old boys.
