How confident are you that QB and RT will be fixed in 2018

Submitted by Maizen on

Or does it depend on what if any changes happen to the coaching staff in the offseason. If the guys behind Ulizio and JBB can't beat them out now, why is it realistic to expect them to beat them out next year. Same question at QB, Speight hasn't had a good game since Maryland last year and Peters can't even beat out O'Korn right now. It's been a big disappointment watching guys who have been in the system for 3 years struggle so much and curious why I or anyone should expect it to get better for reasons other than "Harbaugh."

If they start blooding Peters in now, I'll feel more confident. Even if he is awful this year, the experience will be invaluable.

OL is more interesting. The combo mentioned on the podcast, bringing in Runyan and kicking Bredeson out to RT is something I'd like to see as early as Indiana next week.

I happen to think we can fix RT right now.

We have to get Runyan on the field - whether its at RT or guard and Bredeson moves over.

QB - I think we can fix next year with McCaffrey.

O'Korn was awful against MSU so I have no idea if he will improve this year.

The conservative play calling is making it too easy for the defense.  We need to open up the play book even if it means more turnovers - We have to keep the D off balance - whatever it takes.

Speight will be the starter next year, and will do well after a year of steaming while hurt.... he will be further seasoned.

The OL will depend on Newsome again.. My gosh, what a fail..

And we will really need Filiaga to surface.

Newsome Bredeson Ruiz Onwenu Filiaga

It was pretty misguided for people to expect the OL to improve this year. After all, we are talking about guys who couldn't beat out the guys last year. And last year's OL was average at best. Next year? I would expect slight improvement, but not much. It's probably not until 2019 when you'll start to see significant improvement. As far as QB, it may be worthwhile to bring in a grad transfer. O'Korn is gone, Speight may not be ready to play. Even if he is, it is uncertain what you're going to get from him. So that means you are relying on first year players (Peters or McCaffery). It is somewhat concerning that the QB competition came down to Speight and O'Korn with Peters not in the mix given what we have seen from both QBs his year. If Peters is that far behind now, can he make a big jump in one off season?

They're at about '15 numbers as far as yard per rush and that lead to a sharp improvement last year so I would expect the same bump next.

And a recruitnik like you would know that Bredeson-Ruiz-Onwenu is a top 100 core and a healed Newsome, Filiaga, Hudson, Hall- they were all top 300.

Heck, even the three headed turnstyle of Ulizio-JBB-Runyan will improve by next year.

I think O'Korn plays good ball by the end of the year. I think we witnessed his worst game on Saturday and he leads us to a big win this year. He made some good plays and his receivers dropped or fumbled many of them away. A few better decisions and he will be playing at a pretty elite level. He had no help on Saturday.

When he was a senior, my son and I saw him play against the Clemson QB recruit.  Peters dominated, and from following this blog, seemed like he was coming along nicely.  I know there are a lot of things that go into evaluating a QB, and the staff knows more than I would ever begin to appreciate, but I have always put a premium on a guy who can throw it from point A to point B.....accurately.....without launching it out of bounds.   Plus he is more athletic than both the guys who played ahead of him this year.  Something is obviously missing, so here's hoping its minor.  He needs game reps now, or I am telling you, he is transferring to IU or Purdue, and going to air it out.  Just a prediction based on nothing but opinion, and one game of seeing him in person.

I think the OL next year will at least have guys on it with body types of a prototypical Harbuagh line.   Should be 300+ across the board.  I holdout hope that one of the '17 Class tackle types can improve enough over the season, bowl practice, and spring ball to unseat the current RT. My guess would be Steuber.

QB, I think they roll with McCaffery and take the lumps. Hopefully, he can not turn the ball over and make just enough plays to win early and slowly get better as the season progresses.

Thought a lot about this today and it seems staggering that along with Harbaugh our OC's are making million each that's a lot of money for a poor offense. Pretty agonizing and I'm sure Harbaugh is pulling hair out as well. Sucks we can't pair this great defense with even average offense. Yikes. Fairly confident Harbaugh can right the ship by next year.

-Boosters bow to Peters

-In contact with Brady

-Possess Farve-like abilities

-Controls Ann Arbor with an iron but fair fist

-Owns Defenses & rankings nationally

-Direct descendants of the Bart Star’s blood line

-Will bankroll the first nukes on Detroit

-Owns 99% of future pass completions on Earth

-First designer offenses will in all likelihood be Peters offenses

-Said to have 215+ IQ, such intelligence on Earth has only existed deep in Ryan Fitzpatrick’s library & Andrew Luck’s beard.

-Ancient Indian scriptures tell of an angel who will descend upon Earth and will bring an era of enlightenment and unprecedented Nattys with them

-Own’s Ohio State year round

-You likely have Peters’ sperm inside you right now

-Peters is in regular communication with the Archangels Michael and Gabriel, forwarding the word of God to Tebow. Who do you think set up the meeting between the Mets & Tebow (First meeting between the two organizations) and arranged the Tebow’s first trip to the Garden of Eden literally a few days later from the Peters bunker in Touchdown land?

-Learned Harbaugh’s playbook in under a day

-States entrust their croots with the Brandon. There’s no croots in Texas, only in Michigan

-Peters is about 7 decades old, from the space-time reference point of the base human currently accepted by our society

-In reality, he is a timeless being existing in all points of time and space from the big bang to the end of the universe. We don’t know his ultimate plans yet. We hope he is a benevolent being

Is that when there is a hole, the backs don't explode through it (with exceptions now and again). I'm sure it's been discussed to death here, but we don't seem to have that killer back that teams fear. I'm wondering if Kareem Walker is having issues putting the ball on the ground or picking up blocking assignments. Any theories?
