How are you coping?

Submitted by maizemama on

So, I'm not really a big drinker, so I can't cope with my feelings of sadness and disappointment (some might say ennui) as others do; the board is also very full of sadness and we need some fun. In my house last night we were binging on Halloween candy and pouring hot fudge sauce on normally healthy snacks. This is going to be a rough season on the waist line. I hate you! But I can't quit you!

Keep searching the internet for 'harbaugh to Michigan' articles. Then I ignore the ones that mention john and pay attention to ones that mention Jim. It has been working great! Keep feeding me!!!

Beyond participating in some of the gallows humor, I simply don't let bad stuff with Michigan football bother me that much anymore. Michigan has sucked for almost my whole adult life (graduated high school in '06), I can't get worked up over it.

I was born in 1969 to hippie graduates (1964 and 5) of U of M.

I grew up watching in person, on television and the radio some of the greatest football teams ever assembled. I went to school in Ann Arbor in the late '80s, early 90's and we were ranked nationally in the top 20 every year. 1988 was freaking epic. We had Miami (YES that Miami) on the ropes at home, in a packed Big House. It was the closest thing I've ever had to a religious experience in my 45 years.

The impact of Bo Schembechler's death and Lloyd Carr's inability to have a clear HC have left our beloved program in shambles.

It is really sad for me to think that all of the great things Bo Schembechler accomplished for the University of Michigan have been lost.

I, like many on this board, have refused to let this destroy our lives. I remember the 1994 game against Colorado like it was yesterday. If the 32" Sony Trinitron in my upstairs "man room" didn't weigh a metric ton, I would have thrown the damn thing out the window.

Now, it's more like, 'Meh."

If that happens, the stupid shit with tickets and marketing continues, but worst of all the coaching situiation will not improve.  No disrepect to John Harbaugh, but this program needs a new AD and Jim Harbaugh's attitude and workman style.  The program seems soft on the field and lost on the sideline.  Jim H can fix these things quickly and can bring the former player factions together.

The key is Brandon has to go and has to go, by end of Oct. or sooner.  Hoke will be here until Dec 1 no matter what.

Just so we are clear here: are you in any way saying that you'd be displeased with a John Harbaugh hire?   We could hire a man who's won at the highest level of the sport (something no active college football coach can boast) and you'd turn up your nose?

I don't think it'd happen, but if Brandon somehow pulls that rabbit out of a hat I'll let him do all the marketing crap he wants.

that Jim H is the better Harbaugh for this program.  He seems to have a hotter fire in his belly than John (pure speculation) and seems to bring out more toughness (if that's quantifiable) out of his players.

John would be a major step up from where we are, but because we HAVE to get this right this time, I think this our one and only chance to get Jim Harbaugh.

But I firmly believe that as long as Dave Brandon is in charge of the athletic dept, this football program will suffer and wallow in incompetence and micromanagement.

And DB will NOT hire Jim H, heck he won't even talk to him.  If the AD won't coach because that coach is a bigger personality and the AD has that much ego, then that AD needs to go.

NO AD should attend foorball film sessions.  It's ludicrious.  That is the equivalant to the football coach going to the Athletic Dept Financial meetings.  Not part of his job.

There will likely still be systemic problems in the Athletic Department if Brandon remains.

That said, I would definitely prefer John over Jim and according to SI.com today, John is being pursued.

John is a professional who will work through the pressure cooker that is UM football these days. He won't get flustered and he will make appropriate decisions. I think Jim is greatly affected and influenced by external forces.

Most of all, My hope is that we never see the utter disregard for player safety that has been happening on the field. This isn't the first time this year I have seen what I would describe as negligence. Hoke looks lost and seems unable to make any timely decisions during games.

Fantasy: Loyd Carr AD, John Harbaugh HC, Jim Harbaugh DC, RR OC, Barwis SC, Mike Hart RBC, Ron English DLC, Charles Woodson DBC, Scott Loeffler QBC, Jim Tressel - towel and jockstrap maintenance assistant.

I'm trying to contribute to the dialog. My wife and I are alums, and our daughter just started her freshman year at U-M. I am paying out of state tuition. The university is extremely important to my family and me.

I hate what is going on, but I think forums like MGoBlog are indispensable, and I think what is happening is necessary for things to improve. 40 years ago we'd all get together at the Pretzel Bell and argue around the bar. Then we'd buy each other beers.

We have survived worse. We'll survive this. Those who stay...

Other Michigan sports. Field Hockey is having a nice year. So is W Soccer so far.

Hockey starts on Saturday. Same time as the Football game. Quite a quandary for me.

Will most likely be a top-10 game at ferris state. No TV has been announced yet, but I think it might be on Comcast TV since it's been confirmed they will cover games.

I don't miss Football games. So I'm gonna watch Football while flipping to Hockey on a commercial. Maybe I'll have my phone on during Football and catch the Hockey updates if it isn't televised.

Also: the new BTN Plus service for the other sports is outstanding. The video quality is lightyears ahead of MGoBlueTV. I'm very glad I put the $80 down for it.

Got to see Field Hockey beat Rutgers in 720p HD today. If you want to see some of the early Basketball games or some Hockey games, you might wanna get a monthly package. I get the $80 one because I check out all the sports.

My silverlining:  I have a lot more free time on Saturdays now.  Now all I have to do is DVR the game, go do whatever I want, check the score, and then decide if I should watch the game or delete it.

for bringing some seriousness to my light hearted attempt at humor. We also spent time talking about the middle east, the beheading in OK and the state of healthcare in America today. However, it's much funnier to laugh about drowning our sorrows in year old Halloween candy. #firstworldproblems

I'm coping by watching lots of college football games and being insanely jealous whenever I see bordeline competence from an offense. "Whoa. Two first downs in a row. That NC State offense is on fire!!"

I approach this one day at a time - after modding threads this morning and realizing I was depressing myself, I took a five-mile walk through two subdivisions, then mowed the lawn, then sat down for the Tigers and Lions. Sure, I've been on the blog, but trying to avoid threads which make me think too much about yesterday. Now, it is beer and cooking dinner - braised chicking and some vegetables with rice. I just find things to keep my mind off it really.

to DVRing them to FF thru commercials, half-time, etc.; to FFing thru actual plays. I will now be DVRing games, and I will learn the final score to see if it is worth watching at all.

on my golf game.  I am going to play until there's more than an inch of snow on the ground.

I'm not coming to another game in Ann Arbor this year - mass ticket dump on customers and co-workers. It's kind of liberating actually.  I made that decision before the game yesterday, save for a full afternoon tailgating before PSU. Yeah, not doing PSU after the shitshow yesterday.

I'll still watch though, if Brandon does the right thing this week. If he doesn't, the practice tee is right around the corner.

It requires a bit of focus........unfortunately, I then log off my bank website and click on MGoBlog.

Received the Wolverine online today, but not even interested in reading the journal.

The 2 Mike's Hard Lemonades were after I had run out of the good beer, swiped those from my wife's booze inventory. Had gotten a choose your own six pack from the store before the game, thinking that'd be enough, and thinking that I'd get to enjoy some new beers. Yeah, bad mistake thinking that 6 would be enough. 8 was barely enough, but I'm a lightweight now that I'm a decade out of college.
