Holy Shnikes! A Positive Detroit press Article!

Submitted by jhackney on

I don't think this has been posted. If it has, mods, destroy it. It is nice to see some positive news about Michigan football coming out of Detroit. I wish that most of us had a positive outlook like the players who put in the work and are most directly affected with what choices are made about the program.

Michigan nose tackle Mike Martin didn't blink when asked if he believes the Wolverines will be more competitive next season..."Very confident," Martin said of improving next season. "There are a lot of good things to come. I feel Michigan has been resurrected, but a lot of it hasn't been shown yet.

I am sure there are things we don't see on a daily basis like Martin & Co.

Hold the rope. I am going to agree and believe Martin when he says "...a lot of good things to come."

Thought this might bring a smile or two to the MGoboard and prevent a couple of wrist slittings.

Wolverines see bright future

They were probably going to write a negative article and twist the player's words, but Mike Martin threatened to crush them into oblivion if they dared. So this is what we get.

Mike Martin knows about what he speaks.  The D-line gets better in 2011.  Senior Wolfook and (R/S? sophomore) junior J.T. Floyd return.  Demens improving.  All the true freshman (too many to list) that played this year return.  If the defense does not improve its numbers next year from this year, then I think letting go of Rodriguez may have to occur.

W/o even mentioning the improvements on offense each year under Rodriguez, I'm amazed that the fan base is calling for his head after all its been through enduring his rebuilding/restructuring of the program.

I think Michigan will heal up and perform well in the bowl game.  These upcoming bowl practices that we lacked the last two years will only fruther help develop our young team. Go Blue!

I agree.  After all that's been endured the past few years, I can't understand why so many fans want to start over.  I guess people are just blinded by won-loss record.

Sir i would have to say F-off . Floyd was coming into this year as a second to woolf and this was his first year starting. He plays under a DC that tells the CB to start 10 yards off the ball. Floyd is and will be a great corner before he leave A2. I was he will be because i expect a new DC before next year that can teach him the correct footwork.

Of all of the innumerable errors, offenses and outrages of the press, Angelique Chengelis is remarkable for having been fair and workmanlike in her approach.

Her direct competitor (friendly, of course) is Mark Snyder.  Just today, Snyder's daily hate-peice features this as the fourth one-sentence paragraph:

"Most often the progress is cited in the seven wins, which is more than the five of 2009 and the three of 2010."

Now that I've posted Snyder's error here, Freep.com will correct it in the next couple of hours

I'm still not so sure.  The point is, in the face of what must seem like massive temptation to join the hate-Rodriguez media bandwagon, Angelique just goes about the business of factual reporting and doing the best job of beat-reporting on Wolverine Athletics of any print journalist in the state.

She probably has to spend 8 or 10 hours a week with Snyder, as they wait for press conferences, meetings, pregames, postgames, media scrums, etc., covering the same events.  So it's a tough job she does, and she handles it well.

One of the things that I enjoy about college football is the fact that teams change annually, and the fact that we are able to watch the players develop. Some of these young men are quite possibly destined for greatness. We get to watch! My wrists are quite safe, thank you. My head does hurt, sometimes I bang it on the wall.

Of all of our favorite Detroit media all-stars, she has by far been the most even-keeled... she's always been honest about the team, especially in the weekly chat sessions, without having to resort to asking asinine "rhetorical" questions/attacks like the one Rosenberg asks in his latest "objective" article (the one where he almost, but not quite, accuses Rich Rod of committing the sin of yelling at his players).

Mike Martin I believe, "there is iron in your words of death for all the wolverine to see, therefore there is iron in your words of life.....it shall be life".

what clause?

it would save 1.5 million?

but wouldn't you pay 1.5 million for an improved recruiting class?

I mean by firing him on Jan 1st wouldn't the class be totally destroyed?

If he coaches the bowl game he will coach next year.  And it looks very much like he is going to coach the bowl game.

I am totally unhappy with the past 3 years and I have vented on this board and other places, but I don't know if firing the coach is the right thing to do.  I want to fire him b/c I am mad and angry, but I have no idea if that is the best course of action.

What's the kid gonna say? "No, I think we won't be much better. Maybe a little. But don't get too excited. At best, we'll be mediocre."

Martin's terrific. I'm sure he is optimistic. But he's saying the only thing he can say.

Has any player ever said anything but some variation of: "Last year is done. Fresh start. Finally, we're all-in."

He could have said no comment, denied an interview, transfer, or anything like that. He chose to say, without hesitation, that good things are coming.

You would know better though, with all the sweat and blood you put on the same practice field which holds the most scrutinized Wolverines to ever put on the gear.

Me? My playing days are over and I will probably take his word for it.

save your points. I'll be happy if people just fight the illogical and support the team regardless of who the coach is in a civil manner without getting so damn emotional and serious. What we write on this blog has no sway in the AD office and we should have fun with it. We are all Michigan fans and we wouldn't be without the team, the team, the team.

anyone have a picture of shaw and martin? From the columbus game.  They were sitting on the bench next to each other helmets off,  You can see shaw talking to MM pointing to the wings on the helmet.  It was good to see, they're sticking together, playing for the winged helmet.  Hail tradition.
