Hoke presser, 8/22/2013: Shane will backup Devin, etc.

Submitted by dnak438 on

Hoke: Referenced the 3 J's (Jeremy + Joe + Jehu) as rotational replacements at WR for Darboh. Has no problem with rotating. #Team134Camp

Hoke: Starting center still not determined #Team134Camp

Hoke: Shane Morris participated in scrimmage today with 1's and 2's. He will backup Devin Gardner. #Team134

UPDATE:

Also from today, Brady Hoke says Dennis Norfleet will be Michigan's primary kick and punt returner.

You are the University of Michigan official twitter account. You should know the difference between backup and back up. Morris is the backup because he will back up Devin.

I love norfleet at PR and KR. He showed some great flashes of speed last year and seems like a big impact guy. No offense to gallon but other than having sure hands never really impressed at PR. Plus dont want him getting injured

The backup QB is going to be the only other scholarship QB we have - not really news.

Miller is struggling to beat a walk-on, just like he has been all camp and just like he couldn't do last year  - not really news.

Dennis Norfleet is returning punts - ?!?    ! Yes !

That's big.  Not only is Norfleet one of our best weapons we have, but it means Gallon doesn't have to do the job.  Hoke trusting him to handle this job means he's been consistent in holding on to the damn ball.  Good.

As for kick returns - that's pretty expected, but perhaps it means one of those freshman DBs that were considered for return duties gets to red-shirt.   Good.

We shouldn't be that concerned about WR. We lost one WR - Roundtree. We have two guys who can do the same thing Cannot separate but catch the ball on occasion) in Jackson and Reynolds.

So much panic over who starts at the center position!  I personally feel very confident in Jack Miller doing just fine in that job and think the "undecided at C" is mostly coach-speak from Hoke at this point.  This fanbase must have forgot what it's like to have quality competition that result from actual depth!  I wish I could say the same about the WR depth though... :(

Not sure why you'd feel better about C than WR.  At C, we have a walk-on and a kid who was a consensus 3* but the sites couldn't agree if he should play offense or defense.

Not exactly the "depth" I think this board is looking for.

At WR, we are actually a little better off: JJ was a 3*, Joe Reynolds a walk-on, and Chesson was a 3*.  Not to mention Dileo, Gallon, Funchess, and Butt as receiving options.

I'm much more concerned about the O-line.

After revealing that Morris is the back-up QB:

"You guys didn't know that?"

HAHAHAHA!!!  The indignant reaction from the press corps was the best.

I love Hoke.
