Well, we're already a period deep, so I figured I would start it. 1-0 after the first period. MSU had several chances and converted a power play with a cleanup goal in front. Hagelin just missed high on a diving effort. 1-0 MSU after 20.

Another point, the fact that Corey Tropp is still on the ice is nothing short of appalling. I can't even understand how it is possible. I know Brian has talked about it ad nauseum, but damn, just disgusting he can still play collegiate athletics.

that Tropp doesn't score in? I mean even if we lose, can Tropp just be shut down and pummeled? This is just salt in wounds...

And oh yeah, Caparusso, feel free to actually complete a deke and get a shot on goal. Great googily moogily.

one more conversation about Corey Tropp's contributions to humanity, I'm going to slash a guy in the head with a hockey stick while he's laying half-unconscious on the ice.

"Michigan State's going to the penalty box...Michigan State on the powerplay when we come back"

Sometimes, I actually like to here what's going on.

crappy goaltending, crappy powerplay, zero urgency.

god bless Red for what he has done, but despite the talent this team has, they've been consistenly beaten by teams with inferior talent.

and I actually think the talent just isn't that good on this team. We just don't have that dominant offensive talent the other team has to respect. Caparusso is fraudulent this year, Hagelin is a hell of a pest, but needs a big time sniper / playmaker with him. And Hogan just isn't what you need when you're skaters aren't up to previous standards.

Say what you will about going to Frozen Fours, but this team has squandered too many chances. Look at the talent on some of those past teams. Why haven't they brought some hardware home recently?

National championships define programs. This program, while exceptionally successful on some levels, hasn't won a national championship since 98. Hell, even msu brought one home three years ago.

Red is getting old. How much does he have left in him? Sure, we could ride it out and let him call the shots but how many more years like this year do you want to go through to find out, all the while sitting on talent (that is superior to most of the ccha) that should have gotten us into the tourney?

because the freshman "talent" is overrated this year? And the guy we should have had leading the offense (Palushaj) left early without enough time for Red to replace him? And the 3rd year starting goalie we were hoping to have carry us until the extremely young team got their feet wet shit his pants in the early season? Let me guess, Richrod should be fired as well, and Belein should be competing for a Big Ten title if not a top 5 seed in the tourney this year too, right? You sir are a moron and I have no problem saying that.

question - how has msu rebounded so well after cratering last year?

fire away with calling me an idiot but I remember an era where we had _much_ better success against our rivals.

also, elaborate on a trend in which you would agree that hockey is in decline and change is necessary.

It was 2008-9 (five straight wins against MSU). I'll tell you exactly what MSU did... got healthy, good goaltending and improvement out of their top junior (Tropp). They also went out and recruited a bunch of "old" freshman to immediately get more experience (hockey equivalent of getting JUCO football players). We have been fighting injuries, our goaltending sucks this year, and Caparusso didn't make the typical Michigan junior jump into an offensive powerhouse (and maybe Palushaj would have had he stayed).

We're not MSU from last year. We're a NCAA team on the bubble. Go drink a beer and relax.

And we just scored. As shitty as we played tonight, we're down 1 goal on the road to the 2nd place team in the conference.

Caparusso needs to figure out he's not going deke the guy out and just start firing at the net. If you're going to go umbrella on the PP, the players have to maintain spacing and take the shot from the side slots as soon as they get them, not continue to look for the cross ice pass...

Same call as last year against Notre Dame at Yost. CCHA refs are pathetic. This is bullshit.

EDIT: Sorry about the double post, but really...fuck those refs.
