Hiring Les Miles as an analyst

Submitted by ThadMattasagoblin on September 25th, 2016 at 2:14 AM

Les is almost certainly out of a job after this season unless he can somehow beat Alabama. Do you think Harbaugh hires him to his staff? He probably wouldn't get another head coaching job due to his age and he has ties to Michigan. He has always recruited well and could Harbaugh recruit the deep south due to his established relationships there.

has a tenth of Miles' resume, and the same refusal to address his offensive staff, and he got a head coaching job less than a year after he got fired. Miles has a national championship ring and a pretty good recruiting pedigree. Kentucky, Baylor, and possibly Mississippi State will be open this year. A bunch of other mid level jobs will become available. Someone will take a chance on him.

Kentucky isnt going to make a change, they just gave Stoops that big contract with a Ferentz like buyout.

Why is Baylor going to be looking right now? Theyre currently 4-0 and favs to win the conference and are probably the Big 12's last hope at a playoff team.

And I highly doubt Les takes a mid major job after being at LSU for so long. I wouldnt be surprised if he did in fact retire.

And unless Mullen leaves on his own, Miss St isnt going to fire him. Theyve had 3 10 win seasons since 1940, and Mullen has one of them just two years ago and just sent a QB to the NFL thats currently starting.

You know what cracks me up is that everyone crows about how great the SEC is. Obviously Saban is god at bama but in his tenure the second best coach in the SEC has been Miles hands down. Is he struggling sure but it is strange the second best coach (long term) in the best conference is now not hirable? Strange.

Les can recruit like a mad man and if he could hire a halfway decent OC he could turn PSU back into a power in short order.

Yesterday's game would have gone a lot differently with Miles and Aranda coaching PSU's defense.

That said, I don't think Les would coach any B1G team that isn't Michigan. Like him or not, he does bleed Cajun flavored maize and blue.

If Miles can give up the dream of being the highest-paid coach +$1000, he could do something really Mike Leach-esque out there.

You have to think that guy is sitting on a plane tonight thinking about how it all went wrong...

Les should get a nice beach house and call it a day.

Although I am not 100% against him as an assistant.  I think he would be good.  Up to him though.

A man with the initials of lloyd carr had no use for a man with the initials jim mfin harbaugh either. But he happens to be here..
And if things seem as they appear, a man with the initials jim mfin harbaugh seems to get whatever he wants lately.
So if im betting. If the guy with the initials jim mfin harbaugh wants les miles as an analyst, the guy with the initials lloyd card will sit at home and be salty about it.

2) He has a lot of good connections with HS coaches and recruits.

3) He's not going to be coaching here. No recruit is coming to play for him. He would be selling recruits on playing for our staff and on Michigan.

4) He would be getting paid by LSU with us kicking in a token amount.

I think it would be a no brainer to hire him as an analyst. I expect to see him on ESPN or FS1 instead.

Bc jim harbaugh wasnt fired by the tire fire niners.. and recruits have run from him..
And bc jedd fisch wasnt fired by the jacksonville, bottom of the nfl, jags..
And hes done a horrible job here too..

As an analyst he couldn't directly contact recruits.  He could meet some on campus if they decide to visit.

I don't see a particular reason for Harbaugh to do this unless he just wants to give Les a soft landing.  He could possibly help with Louisiana recruiting, but in general, Jim wants to hire younger, hungrier guys who want to climb the ladder.

analysts. Erik Campbell is certainly a veteran coach and there's no limit on how many support staff we can have. I'm not saying this is at all likely, but Michigan would just be a short term stop for Miles. He get's to spend a year in Ann Arbor before moving on the another HC job.

I'd expect him to do that in broadcasting, but maybe that's not what he wants.

LSU should be stuck with Les forever. I hope there's some clause buried deep in his contract that if Michigan offers him a position that his head coaching contract is automatically extended for 10 years. Their old and new AD's wanted him so badly. Now? Seriously, fuck LSU. Also, fuck Kirk herbstreit.

Between Herbie calling Miles to Michigan, LSU extending Miles contract, and Bill Martin on the yacht, there was a lot of bad press at the time for Michigan. Obviously there was more going on, but it really made us look bad at the time and LSU got their man so to speak. Fast forward to now and, I just want LSU to be saddled with Les for the foreseeable future.
