Herbstreit has changed his prediction

On ESPN Gameday's season preview edition Kirk Herbstreit now thinks that Michigan should win 7 or 8 games...  A little more rosey than his previous 6-6 position.  He likes our D.

watch today's countdown to kickoff video. new pre-game tradition as far as the team / band getting to the stadium.
 
i'm sure it was selective footage / scout team defense, but threet and sheridan both looked good. feagin... notsomuch.

Feagin's pass reminded me of when you are playing NCAA and you get blitzed so quick all you can do is just press a button and hope for the best.  In this case I think he hit square and it ended up getting picked off.

Personally I thought Lou Holtz saying Michigan will be sub .500 and Notre Dame will win 11 games was the best part of the show.(and its not even over yet)

Kirk is an interesting guy. His allegiances are out in the open. And yet ABC/ESPN even gives him mad money and a mic to say it. A Corso Herbstreidt Fowler BobbleHead would be good for the car. A Palmer one would make me go cross eyed.

is such a shameless ND homer.  I think he said the Irish would win 10 games last year and that their only tough game would be USC.  I can only hope that his prediction this year leads to another disastrous season for ND.

Ellipses man - Herbie is actually pretty unbiased when he is on espn.  He was actively pimping UM to be the second best team after the OSU loss in '06.

I've watched Gameday for as long as I can remember and I don't ever recall Herbie being actively biased against UM at any point. He always praised Carr, praised the players, and evaluated them like any other team.

I think he's a fantastic analyst. Also, ESPN has even brought on Desmond Howard (who should be nowhere near a microphone at any point ever) who is way more pro-UM than Herbie is pro-OSU. 

 

But yeah, I forget, the entire sports media is biased against UM because they don't spend every available opportunity on their knees slobbering at the balls of Mighty Michigan.

I was about to say - I recall Herbie picking Michigan to beat OSU much more than the unbiased Lee Corso over did. Back during the Cooper years, Corso ALWAYS picked OSU, and Herbie virtually always picked Michigan.

In all fairness, BlueSeoul, they hired Desmond during a seven-year stretch that OSU has repeatedly and ritualistically kicked our ass - a stretch in which they have been, hands down, the best team in the conference. So if Herbstreit talking about how good they are because he's biased, or is he talking about how good they are because he's 100% correct?

about his pro osu bias, that's a given, and he did an excellent job of keeping it in check.  I'm talking about his anti-michigan bias.  After desmond was hired it was like the producers said, 'okay, we've got balance now, so take a few more liberties.'

Herbstreit is a terrific cfb analyst. Maybe the best in the nation. He's also a damn good color commentator. I honestly don't understand where some of you in our fanbase are coming from sometimes. Its as if you aren't happy unless every single analyst and/or journalist is swinging from UM's nutsack by their teeth. If anything, Herbie has been overly critical of his alma mater at times as to not appear pro-OSU. He has always praised UM football, BO, Lloyd, etc. I know this might be tough to understand, but, there has been plenty of reasons to be critical of UM football over the last few years. There is also plenty of room for questioning what has gone down with our program over the last 8 months as well with the hiring of RR and the mess that followed with the buyout.

I am obviously biased and have no issue with any of the RR "controversy" over the off-season, but if the exact same situation happened with RR going to ohhh let's say Alabama, you can't convince me that the "fO$U lololol" posters wouldn't be calling him DickFraud and questioning his ethics.

 

FWIW, I find Desmond to be way more of a homer than Herbie.  Also, Kirk doesn't make up fantasy bowl game matchups and proceed to analyze them like they are actually going to happen.

I've always liked him.  You forget that he's a bucknut when you watch Game Day, and that's the way it should be.  As for Desmond....he's always pushing Michigan....if anything he's biased, not Herby.  Not that I don't like Desmond though!  He was one of my favorite players growing up, FO SHO.

Sometimes I think they just put Desmond there for comic relief when the other guys get really serious. He's always out there enjoying his experiences and doesn't take the analyst job or himself, too seriously which is why I love seeing him. At the end of the day it's not world politics, it's sports, so it's good to see a guy who's not going to turn red in the face about CFB.

Herby is clearly biased, but its not pro-OSU, its pro Big Ten.  We get as much love as OSU from Herby on air (ignore the love fest he was having with Eddie George on the sidelines of the BCS game against Miami when he the main cameras were not pointed at him). 

Other than his effort to break the Les Miles to Michigan story, he has done a very credible job on air.

I think the 2006  BCS championship debacle ruined him to me. Now he goes out of his way to compliment the SEC and goes out of his way to criticize the B10 (whether criticism/praise is warrented or not). He's still the best analyst on the show by a long shot (not that hard to do w/ Holtz and Mark May), but he wasn't the same after the Florida/Michigan debate and I felt like his confidence went way down as a CFB analyst. I just think he's too self concious now, whereas before he would speak as educatedly about things as he could without worrying about people bashing him and his opinions.

The guy knows what he is talking about and he is easily the most reasonable of the ESPN gameday crew.  Whoever said that he has pro-Big Ten bias if anything is right.  Remember, in 2006 he was saying that people should vote UM or Florida #2 based on whom they think is the better team and not on whether or not they believe there should be a rematch in the BCS champ game.  I thought that the "Breaston is worthless" comment was taken out of context and was more of a criticism of the coaching staff, and I thought that the Miles to Michigan thing was a mistake, pure and simple.  Many Wolverines are hard on him because he is a Buckeye, but they should give him credit for being a Big Ten Man if anything.

Someone mentioned the other day that Jesse Palmer has been said to know what he is talking about, and he is pretty decent come to think of it.  I watch him on CFB Live when I can and I like how he talks a little about technical aspects of the game.  I guess it's a little hard to take him seriously since he was on the Bachelor.  The dude must be getting hotties left and right though. He is an attractive guy and he is making bank.  Oh wait, he was on the Bachelor so he's the sensitive type.
