Helmet Stickers back!

Chris Balas (rivals) is reporting that Harbaugh has decided to bring back Helmet stickers and do away with Legends jerseys. This comes a day after Jim favorited a tweet from a fan asking if helmet stickers would come back this year.

I am not sure about all of the feelings on this board, but I believe helmet stickers were one of our best aesthetic traditions until they were discontinued in the 90's. We had them for all of Bo's years except one, and you can be damn sure that Jimmy's helmet was covered in 'em.

I'm fairly indifferent to the helmet stickers. As long as they aren't massive and are fairly small like the Stanford ones, I'm ok with it.

Thank God the legend jerseys are going away.

Thinks that honoring former Michigan greats in the stadium like most stadiums across the country do is a good idea, but another part of me wonders if it's necessary. Part of being a Michigan fan is passing down stories and legends to the next generation. I didn't have to ask my dad who Bo or Harmon or Leach were growing up - he simply educated me as we watched football together. We as fans shouldn't need reminders of players and their deeds towering over us in maize paint. I like to think that Michigan tradition and legends are passed down more by word of mouth than by anything else, and that would serve as daily internal reminder for the entirety of our fandom.

To be clear, I wouldn't hate it if it happened, but I would also wonder what Bo or Yost or other Michigan leaders would say to the idea. The stadium itself is a monument to the legends, and it echoes with enough history that names painted across it's interior will pale in comparison to the players and the greatness they showed to deserve such an honor. Lastly, there are many who would harken back to Bo's saying that "no man is more imporant than the team; no coach is more important than the team", and that the real honor is wearing the winged helmet and playing in Michigan Stadium, not having your jersey retired or your named scrawled on some wall.

There's a hall in the locker room in Mich Stadium between the doors to the tunnel and the training room where they honor a few great moments/individuals. They have Brady's quote from last year addressing the team, Desmond's "catch" against ND, Woodson with a rose in his mouth post OSU game, AC's catch against IU. Unfortunately they said Carter's game winning catch against the Hoosier's occured in 1989, right in the middle of his Viking career. I'll give Brandon a pass and lay the blame for the typo on Lochdog since he might not have been born yet.

Glad about the legends jerseys, bummed about the stickers although it's always seemed like a matter of time before someone would wanna try it again.  I hope it's a one year deal.  Let OSU have their thing.  Our helmets are perfect without them.

We had helmet stickers from 1969-1994. Yes it has been 20 years, but Ohio debuted theirs in '68. It's certainly not a look Ohio State has had a monopoly on in this rivalry. The great players that further built this program (AC, Jim, Desmond, McKenzie, etc.) all wore em.

I agree on the legends jerseys. Incredibly bad idea. How can anyone leave their own legacy if we presure them into a new number as soon as they show the potential for greatness. Let Peppers make the #5 legendary, don't force him to wear #2. I like unretired numbers that must be earned, or come with great expectations, like #1 and #77 at LT.

Well we also had them in the 80's and part of the 90's. That era is still relevant...right?? Right guys?? I'm gonna go binge watch some Saved By The Bell while you discuss these glorious adhesive devices.

FWIW - I'm very happy the legends jerseys will be gone and am also indifferent on the stickers. Whatever the players/coaches want.

I could stare at it all day. Putting helmet stickers (no matter how small) on such an amazing piece of art is like putting a bumper sticker on a jaguar. Of course, I'm also for taking last names off of jerseys. If you're going to tout the team as paramount, that should be the only thing on the jersey, and if the team is above all esle, then how do you justify 1 guy having 10 helmet stickers and another 2 stickers. You can't put something in the locker room that keeps track of those types of stats?

What's frustrating about the Legends jerseys is that this came so close to being an excellent idea.  I love the idea of not retiring numbers but rather honoring past players who wore them with a patch.  It keeps numbers in circulation, keeps those former players in present conversations, and is an interesting, unique way of handling that process (one that could grow into a cool, quirky Michigan tradition).

The mistakes were (1) encouraging players to switch to those numbers and (2) making it such a big deal to wear one of them.  If a guy who's wearing #21 drinks too much on St. Patty's Day, no one would seriously think that he disgraced the legacy of Desmond Howard.  They should just make those patches permanent fixtures on the jerseys and then not worry about who ends up wearing them.

I don't mind the return of the stickers and am anxious to see what they will look like.
I still like the idea of the Legends program but the execution was poor. The patch they decided on was too big and never looked good.

This is ridiculous. That helmet is a piece of protective equipment that also doubles as a weapon on the field and you're talking about it like its hanging in the fucking louvre and someone just splattered paint on it. Jesus Christ it's a helmet only ocd fucknuts care about this. It clutters the helmet as you clutch your pearls. Embarrassing.
