takes some pressure off the snake oil sales to guys like Travis Bond and Quinton Washington and probably makes the a guy like Chris Freeman more of luxury and someone we can take time to develop should he decide to commit.

Not saying he is going to be like Jake but the kid supposedly really admires how Jake plays. This is a great pick up and i hope to see this kid dominate like Jake did. Hopefully Jake will come in on the off season to train with Barwis and "tutor" Lewan. Let's just hope he doesn't decommit next week! :P

I'm trying to get a hold of his Dad right now, but I'm sure they're either really busy or getting on a plane soon. I'll let you guys know when I hear back. But this is awesome. I heard this, and couldn't have been more excited. Wait until you guys see this kid play, he's a monster. He dominates, and has only played the position for one year. This is a huge get for us.

though I understand what you are trying to type it needs to be clear this wasn't a trade off. Lewan would have committed regardless of Jordan. The two have nothing to do with each other. IOW, Taylor didn't commit because he knew Jordan decommitted. Now, let's close this class with a BANG and start the 2009 campaign with a burning desire to KICK ASS!

Just meant i'll take Barnes, a meh linebacker decommitting, for a commitment from Lewan to make the weekend a positive instead of a negative. Of our entire recruiting class Barnes was the one didn't impress me very much.

Sigh. I, too, was not insanely excited about Barnes. That said, one would assume that since he held an extremely early offer from Michigan (he was, for instance, offered before say, Lewan) SOMEONE who knows a hell of a lot more football than I do (or, you, I imagine) thought he had value. So, no, not that upset. But I do think that our opinions of him, as fans that have seen 3 minutes of highlight reels, are next to worthless.

As someone said above, Lewan reminds me of Jake Long. The size, the frame, the nastiness, etc. I think he fits perfectly in this offense, too. I think he'll be our best lineman out of the last few recruiting classes.

I think it's a bit unfair to start with these OMG Jake Long comparisons before the kid has even stepped on campus. Lets give him some space and time and then, at that point, make comparisons to former Wolverines.

I don't think it's unfair to say "He reminds me of Jake Long." It WOULD be unfair to, after a couple uninspiring seasons, say "He was supposed to be the next Jake Long and he sucks!" or something to that effect. Because he's not the next Jake Long; he's Taylor Lewan. Again, if people think it's unfair to make these comparisons before guys get to college, then they should probably stop following recruiting. Because every time a guy is given a star rating, that sets an expectation level for that guy's performance. We're going to make comparisons, good or bad. If we don't voice them, they'll be in our head, anyway. It's fair to say a guy reminds us of someone else; it's not fair to expect the same level performance from him.

I completely agree with you. It's kind of like when Brian says that a certain recruit may remind you of a certain NFL or former Michigan player. It is not to say that we expect them to be that player in 4 years, but more so that we understand that they have the same build and same skills.

Thanks to Coach Rod for getting this guy to come to Michigan-very excited! This player is the real deal! Michigan Fans will get pumped once they see this guy play. Jake Long thanks for your great play at Michigan, your biggest fan is following in your footsteps,wow-sweet!

I know this is extremely early and unfounded... But I cannot help imagining a 2010 O-line that looks something like Lewan-Mealer?-Molk-Barnum-O'Neil. That would be sweet.

You forgot Omameh. RR metioned his name to play next year. I think he's gonna be good too. And i agree that we will be a powerhouse team by 2010

I was debating to put him at LG, but Elliott is one of my buddies so I gave him the nod. You guys like the pic with Lloyd Carr on the court after the Duke game? I wasnt ready for the picture, so I look a little creepy, but it doesnt matter. Its me with fucking Lloyd Carr!

I just talked to Dave Lewan. They just got back into Phoenix, and are headed to Taylor's banquet. He's going to let me know Taylor's reasons for picking Michigan once they are done. Briefly he said there were a lot of reasons with an exclamation point. I'll let you know when he gets back to me, might not be until tomorrow, they're probably tired.

Now that must of been a pretty good visit...but speaking of visits, I've always wondered this.... What exactly do the recruits do on their visit to campus. I know they usually go to some sporting event and tour the campus/facilities, but anything else?

with Shari Acho, the Academic Success Program co-director. and for those who have specific academic interests in mind (or parents who are along for the visit) they probably meet with people from the department/major they're considering. they also hang out at the dorms with their player host and have dinner and play video games at RR's house, per some quotes from one of the Dec. 6th visitors.

I've been emailing him back and forth all day. I just called him, and I think he was eating dinner. I'm just waiting for him to call me back. I'll post it when I get it.
