First of all, you get preferred admission. Not all of these PWOs would get into Michigan without football, though many of them likely would. These guys don't have to show up to try outs. They're on the team. Student body walk ons still have to show up and prove themselves. Think of it like having a job offer after your internship vs having to go through the interview process with everyone else. Not every walk on makes the team.

Are they admitted under the same guidelines as the other recruits, ie 2.5 GPA minimum and ACTscore (whatever they are), or do they still need to apply as a part the general student body?

I've always assumed the former, and if yes, it's an enormous benefit of being a PWO at a school like Michigan.

I'll be interested to see what happens to the pre-existing PWO's. This recruiting class now has 10 of them -- all of whom are guaranteed a spot on the 105-man roster. So that means the other classes of PWO's (next year's academic Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and 5th years can (all of them together) only total 10. That's some crazy front-loading.

All the current walk ons this past season. That tells me there will be a lot of attrition in those ranks because the staff wants to up the talent level.

Someone posted that the 105 only applied to fall camp so perhaps there are guys who are down the scout team depth chart that, are not PWOs and don't go to camp, but are back on the field once semester starts.
