I saw that he made a comment about this in the teleconference interview on the front page. Does not come as much of a surprise, as it seems Hackett operated like a true professional before, during, and after his biggest hire. Everyone wants him to stay, I would think. As far as ADs go, we hear about the typical guys who have ties to Michigan, but I don't know how realistic those hires would be.

Seeing Dave Brandon run the program compared to Hackett seems like night and day, and not just because Hackett reeled in Harbaugh. There have been noticeable differences(positive) when it comes to gameday, and truly caring about the fans and alumni. I hope he stays, but if not, I'm confident in Schissel and Hackett to find a good replacement and keep U of M Athletics headed in the right direction.

and I thing Hackett has done a fantastic job.  But, the baton needs to be passed to the next person.  It is time.  Michigan needs their "AD of the future" and now is the right time.  I trust that Schlissel and the Regents will pick the right person this time, and know that politics don't make a good criterion for selecting an AD.

Is there anything additionally in the realm of plausibility (besides renewing the ND series) that we would have wanted Hackett to do in the interim? Or did he have the perfect tenure?

Could have lowered food prices in the stadium, improved food quality, allowed fans more access to the stadium (making it more personal and not so fake feeling), less piped-in music.  But overall, there is very little better he could have done.

The amplified band music is actually worse than the piped-in music, as far as I'm concerned, because of the noticeable delay.  All of the chants are even more out of sync than they would be naturally.  I'd rather we find a way to amplify the sound naturally without using the speakers; unfortunately, the design of the stadium makes that largely impossible.

It's less fun to sing along to the Victors when nobody can agree on where we are in the song. :-)

If it's his responsibility, but addressing the radio play by play would be nice.

I love Brandstattet, but he is out of his element doing pbp. There is also a need to increase the number of stations that the games are on. It's an incredible challenge to find the games at times.

I would definitely not be averse to Hackett staying either, considering all that he has been able to accomplish in just a shade over one year, not the least of which is hire the man who now wishes him to stay on. Sadly, Hackett seems to have made his wishes in this respect clear, but at least he is on the advisory committee....and he is apparently aware of the qualities in an AD that Harbaugh admires.....I wonder if there is anyone on the committee that might fit the bill....hmmmmm....

if Hacket could just stay a couple more years and then bring someone in while he is still there.  I sure would like him to stay.  He knew how to steady the ship and make everyone feel pretty darn good.  Got rid of the divisions.

I believe there a clause in Hackett's contract that says if he misses a day of work he has to have a 3-5am budget meeting with Harbaugh. That should keep him from skiping out

Does Mr. Hackett even want to remain as AD? It appears that he is voluntarily stepping down and not looking to remove the interim tag. If anyone knows otherwise, please let me know as I don't have any inside information.

....would be great to provide some stability and overall strength to the program.

A couple next 'big' decision is what to do when Red retires from Hockey and Hutch from Softball and if Hackett was here, we'd likely have 2 great new coaches to keep that momentum going....

Hacks, please stay.

Let's get JUB to go back to all of the guys who worked the phones to bring Harbaugh here in the first place and convince them to work em again to get Hackett to stay on.

Hackett did a great job because deep down he didn't want the job for himself, so he was able to keep his head clear and focus on the big picture - re-establishing support, mending fences, getting alumni support back up, getting ex-player support, getting student student support, and most of all getting the right head coach.

So if he wants to go out on a high note and sail off to the West and fade into myth he certainly earned it. He really learned the lessons Bo was trying to teach.

I'm so nervous about this. Another corporate tool like Brandon or professional bureaucrat would be a disaster.

I think the best AD's combine a sense of realism, an appreciation for the unreality that is the college environment, good business sense, and a love of the school.

Brandon has left me scarred.

will stay since Harbaugh wants him to. Though it seems like he would like to retire. If he does, I hope they check with Harbaugh and get his blessing before they hire a new AD. The worse thing ever would be to hire an AD that would start rubbing Harbuagh the wrong way!

Nothing is worse than someone doing a job they don't want.

We need someone whose heart is in it.  Hackett gave this job his all for the time he has done it.  If this is all he had to give, then we should give him a hearty "Thank You!" and let him re-retire as the most successful interim-AD you could ever imagine.

If is heart isn't in the full-time position, trying to talk him into taking it would be a mistake.  When you talk people into doing jobs their heart isn't into, you end up with stuff like Carr in 2007.  People know in their hearts when it is time to go.
