UPDATE 1: Harbaugh also met with Patterson today (Tues Dec 5), according to Tom VanHaaren:

I was told Harbaugh is meeting with Shea Patterson right now. Of note with Shea, his parents were Michigan fans, his grandpa played for the Detroit Pistons and Shea was at one point committed to Arizona in HS, recruited by Matt Dudek, who is now at Michigan.

UPDATE 2: Michigan pursuing OL Greg Little as well, though unclear whether or not the interest is reciprocated on his end (Sam Webb et al have more details).

If we can grab a few of these dudes, it will make up for the backend of Hokes recruiting

Basically swapping out 5th years that did not play for guys that can play

It would be awesome, but the chatter I'm hearing from other boards is that Little is currently telling Ole Miss people that he's staying.  And that IF he did leave Oxford, it's most liklely that he'd end up at Oklahoma.

So bottom line it seems like IF the players got their immediate playing waiver from the NCAA, the likelihood of them playing for us next year, in order of likelihood would be:

Patterson > Anderson/VanJefferson >>>>>> Little

So it wouldn't likely directly help our OT & pass protection problems.  That will have to come from internal growth from our own roster/recruits, which will take time.  OTOH, if:

1)  Peters/Patterson develop better scrambling/pocket awareness than JOK/Speight; and/or

2)  if VanJefferson & 1 year older Black/DPJ can provide crisp route running; and/or

3)  if Ruiz can step in & lock down the right line calls (speculating that Kugler may have been the culprit in some of those blown blitz/stunt pick-ups),

then it's entreily possible that our OT & pass protection issues can be significantly mitigated.

Plus shoring up the safety spot doesn't hurt either.  Bottom line is even if we just get 1 out of the 4, let alone 2 or 3 out of the 4, it'd be a major coup for Michigan.

This is great to see Harbaugh continuing to do everything he can to push Michigan football forward. I wonder if he would have done what Illinois did after the Sandusky scandal and openly recruit PSU players on their campus?

Wow, I really feel bad for ESPN.

Would be a shame if there were an alternative, rapid, and open way for people to share information, bypassing ESPN's singular, monolithic information hub, rendering them irrelevant.

The only recourse would be to counter with higher-quality reporting, exclusive-access media, and engaging viewers more directly.

Hopefully for them the whole "internet"-thing is just a fad.

Anderson sat out this season planning to transfer. Harbaugh recruited him out of HS. He's expressed interest in coming here. You'd be hard pressed to find any coach that wouldn't go down there for a recruiting visit.

Illinois was the only coaching staff in the country to camp out at PSU, trying to take anyone that would talk to them.

This would be perfect poetic justice for Treadwell and that fuckface Hugh Freeze going on about his family and trashing satellite camps. If we get Patterson and/or any number of these guys...

Van Jefferson (class of '15) would be eligibile right away, but both Anderson and Patterson (class of '16) would need some intervention to play next year. Will definitely be interesting to see how it all shakes out.

Regardless, nice to see former high level recruits giving us a look as a transfer destination. This doesn't happen under RR or Hoke.

EDIT: Looks like Van redshirted his frosh year, making it seem like all three would need intervention to play immediately. Still take any or all of them.

The NCAA has a recent history of granting waivers for various things, especially after getting hit with some bad PR.

With all the players. lawyers and schools involved in this, and with Ole Miss already caving on transfer restrictions, I think it's close to a sure thing to happen very soon.

It appears that all you need to say is, "Hugh Freeze told me any violations were Houston Nutt's fault."

Might be a loose definition of a verbal agreement, but the NCAA is a loose definition of a governing body.

Hopefully Anderson gets the waiver.

Frankly, I'm more concerned about UM's safety play going into next season than QB.
