Harbaugh Interview from SMSB
Normally, I wouldn't post a video interview as a separate topic, but I laughed so hard when Harbaugh shot the interviewer down at about the 3:15 mark of this video that I just had to share it with the MGoBrethren. His facial expressions are hilarious.
"How could you even have a follow up to that answer. That is as concise as I can make it!!"
#Harbaughed!!!
This whole interview is just awkward...
The reporters are so hesistant to ask questions and Harbaugh just wants them to get it over with.
But yeah that 3:15 moment was priceless. Reporters gotta go excruciating lengths to just ask the same question over again haha...
Another thing I noticed is that Harbaugh dominates the room.
Baumgardner is wayyy too used to having his way with Hoke with inane questions.
And Harbaugh has such a high threshold for worthwhile responses that he isn't even interested in answering such a random hypothetical that Nick throws at him.
Nick's question is literally embodies himself as the cliche of a 4-year-old child who is told that everything falls downward because of "the force of gravity" and then precedes to ask, "even water?" "even mud? "even candy?", etc.
Also, Harbaugh's "active listening" is AMAZING, particularly for being on the tail-end of circling the country in a new state every day.
Man, Harbaugh is such a CHAMP. I'm blown away by him everytime I see him speak.
As someone who rigorousy studies the process of "skill mastery", skill acquisition, conscientiousness, deep practice, divergent thinking, habituation, passion, mastermind group, etc. it's literally incredible to see how well-honed Harbaugh is in every aspect.
Watching/following/studying him closely could literally be a master-class on achievement all on his own.
Even with all the hype, this is not an exaggeration, his ability is still not fully revealed.
Can't wait for the season to start!!!!
Literally...
Curious on what capacity you study those things. Sounds kind of similar to my field.

Fun to play catch word bingo in a meeting with you guys.
Actually an offshoot of performance psychology. So we study and come up with the bullshit you guys sell.
And someone actually laughs when Baugaugher asked that inane follow up question and Harbaugh gives that classic response...wonder if it was Nick nervously laughing at himself.
One thing that is already established...Harbaugh is a Boss. He just owns it...he's in complete command of every situation.
I can see why coaches want to be on his staff..working with him has to be exhausting and exhilerating at all times.
Such awkwardness
He seems annoyed with stupid questions. I like that.
it wasn't awkward. He was straight, honest and open with the legit questions. He tolerated the questions he legally can't/won't answer right now with a patience I don't think I have. I love his "this is so dumb I can't believe it" look.
Harbaugh has a strong presence. He owns these conversations and won't be talked down to by anyone. He won't put up with bullshit and it will be both subtle and not subtle at times.
He was at Fresno yesterday, flew back to MI and got 3 hours of sleep in his office, drove out to Macomb for SMSB where it was a 6 hour camp and drove back home so he can do it again tomorrow.
Exposure U is tomorrow at Michigan.
I can't imagine being a head coach and having to answer quarterback questions every single day of the year. I know it's the most important position but it's still just one freaking guy. Harbaugh sure seems fed up already. Can't blame him.
I'm not even sure you can say that he's fed up in general, but being asked the same question several times *in a row* can certainly give anyone all they can handle for one conversation.
Those "reporters" are the worst. They have their question written down and a follow-up question . . . and by damn, they are going to ask that question and ask that follow-up. Even if it's already been answered. Even if it's off topic because of the flow of the discussion.
They are not following the conversation. They are not even listening to the answers. They are just parroting what they have written down.
Hey "reporters", there are lots of interesting things to ask when you get an audience with Jim freaking Harbaugh . . . even if somebody has already asked "your" question.
Ask about the running game. Ask about the O-Line. Hell, ask him if he was sore after playing shirts-and-skins with 18 year olds.
But for god's sake, stop asking him the same lame thing over and over, especially when he's already answered it just 2 minutes earlier
as he kept tucking it in or at least lurking around the corner. I was disappointed.
Yea, must have been the wrong camera angle.

When he was speaking with the media, I didn't want to interrupt him so I waited down the hall and started heading over when it looked like he was about done.
That staffer that walked behind him in the video passed me as I was walking up.
in the blue shirt that walked behind?
It was. He was sober too
His hat is so awesome. I want it.
It seemed like the interview - in all of its awkwardness and Harbaugh's thinly veiled irritation with the redundancy - was building to that moment at 3:15. That was great.
Yeah, I think it is going to be an adjustment for the media around here, who were used to getting roundabout, meandering replies from Hoke and sometimes the followups were for the purpose of "What the hell did that even mean?". Harbaugh's answers - by contrast - are rather condensed and pointed in this case (in an effort to move the discussion forward, it seems), and I like that.
Intimidation. I love it. These reporters are scared to ask him simple questions. Harbaugh will not be bullied or talked down to and the players will follow his lead. No more Sparty and Buckeye bullying us either. If they win this year, they are going to have to earn it.
They are intimidated because they know that they are asking stupid vapid questions, and they know that he knows they know it.
He's being polite and playing along, but yes, he thinks you are stupid and wasting his time.
Can't wait to see more interviews. It's kind of nice to not cringe during an interview.
I love Jim, but his interviews always seem so awkward. I feel that he hates doing them, which is perfectly fine.
taking questions from the media. Most of the questions they ask are stupid.
How refreshing was it to not hear the word "well" once?
At bit OT for this thread, but this pic in the Detroit News with Harbaugh and Mork was pretty good, especially with the looks on their faces:
http://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/fcb2911cc5c6022d3fc2641e2213506e102e86f…
EDIT: I'll let someone else format it so that it shows up here, so that I don't end up wrecking the thread.
From that photo you'd think it was Mork that has been traveling all over the country trying to keep up with 18 yos and flying red eye...
Only Big 10 coach who carries a full set of luggage on his face 24/7/365. Jesus dude, maybe less benefit and more sleep and those eye bags would reduce in size a little.
I really hope this doesn't sound callous... Nick seems like a nice guy, but I think mlive should pony up enough $$ to hire a umich alum to cover Michigan sports. An alum will have more passion, communicate better, and have the mental horsepower to better keep up with Harbaugh during the dialog. Ideal would be a communications major who graduated with honors on an athletic scholarship. There are so many smart cookies in non-revenue sports that go pro in something other than sports... I just wish mlive would hire one.
I think the ending was pretty hilarious as well... Harbaugh just answers these questions like they are so blindingly obvious. Great shit.
Every HARBAUGH interview from this point forward must be filmed with two cameras. One on him, one on the reporter asking the question. Video will be shown in split screen, so we can see the person asking the question, and their reaction to coaches answer.
All in favor?
