Harbaugh fever

Submitted by Dan Man on

I have been trying my damnedest not to get my hopes up for Harbaugh.  Repeating to myself "it's not such a big deal, there are plenty of good coaches out there."  But the internet got me.  I am bursting with hope.  I have Harbaugh fever, and there is no cure.  If we do not get him now, I will weep like 2 year old.  Probably for days.  And you?

I pack my suitcase with myself but I'm already gone
I cringed myself with that atoning hell, but I'm already gone!
I cleanse myself with vitamin health but I'm already gone
I saw it rising on the horizon and I saw it fall.
When but Harbaugh fever is falling all over you,
Believe
But Harbaugh fever's fallin' all over
You believers and lovers

In a breath
In a black bowl I found a broken skull now I'm already gone.
You can write my whole life down in a little book when I'm already gone.
I started shaking and my heart breaking, my belly crawls,
But Harbaugh fever's fallin' all over
You believers and lovers

When I'm a ghost, I see no reason to run,
When I'm already gone!
If it wasn't taped you could escape this song,
But I'm already gone

the damn search to be over already.  I haven't gotten any work done in weeks!

If JH says no, hire Les Miles.  Then I'll be able to sleep at night.  In my own home, that I'll be able to keep since I'll still have a job.

... a way to call in sick from work on December 23rd to track the potential hapenings that day.

BUT, since it is just a thread about feelings, let me share mine (because you guys haven't seen enough speculaiton) about an oft-ignored point:

I think Harbaugh moving around a lot as a kid is an important factor in his mental make-up.  Some people consider him a "flake" and that friendships are not the same with him as with others.

I have seen this first-hand.  I live with someone who moved around a lot as a kid.  That person isnt used to building friendships the same way I have been.  When you move, you get used to ending friendships and you are not as good at doing the little things to keep them going.  That person has always craved having roots established in one area.

Plus, there is a really, really strong conneciton to family because that has been the only constant.

Often, people don't want their kids to grow up the same way.  They want something "better."  I think this is why "staying in SF area" has been something of some importance to Jim's family.  Probably why the Niners job was taken, in part.  However, in light of events beyond his control, he is probably going to have to leave unless he wants to play for the local joke franchise.

Ann Arbor has a lot of home qualities.  Lots of old firends.  He could be there a long, long time.  Any other NFL stop could be short.  Plus, his beloved father seems to want him there and for him to be close.  (He will also be closer to John, this sister, etc.)  Of course, Bo may have been like a father.  JH may have a big ego, but I think something inside him wants the stability he never enjoyed.

In some ways, people who move around and lose treasured friends during their formative years really want to plant roots somewhere they can call home......

I can speak to this a little from my personal experience. I moved around a lot as a kid (Navy Brat) and when my family finally settled in Southern MI, it took me a while to get used to seeing the same people for more than a few years in a row. Since that time, I have been able to form lifelong friendships with the people around me, and I value that dearly. At this point, it would be very hard for me to walk away from all of that, even for my dream job. That doesn't mean I wouldn't do it (especially if I had ties to the area i would be going to), but it would be far from a foregone conclusion. I want Harbaugh here as much as anyone, but I can understand any conflicting emotions he may be having.

a friend of mine (diehard psu fan) works @ the search firm that is/was being used in the coaching search (Korn Ferry)...his words to me just now were "confirmed, harbaugh to Michigan is a done deal..they are announcing it after the niners last game".

I''m under 100 points so can't create a new post (this is my first time posting-ever) but wanted to share..for obvious reasons. He has no reason to lie and is actually a big proponent of michigan getting JH (competitiveness B10 pride all that). so. yea. basically we can stop worrying now /s

I could pay for Harbaugh's contract myself!

Sadly the friend-of-a-friend said such-and-such rumors give me no confidence. I will believe It's Happening only when Jim Harbaugh himself utters the words "I will be the next coach at the University of Michigan" or something to that effect.

A friend of mine is an ear of corn.  He said the same thing!  It's happening!  But he couldn't say when it was happening because I ate him before he could get it out.  I'll miss that guy.  Oh, wait!  Maybe he will form an answer to "when" after I poop him out.  Stay tuned for more news!

I will put it like this - as long as we made the best, most organized effort that we could at Michigan, then I might be disappointed for a few days but I do give the new administration being built by Hackett enough credit that Plan B - if it comes to that - will be someone at least most people would get behind. I can't promise that I wouldn't drunk mod the first night after a "No", of course, but I am sure I'd be OK after that.

I have Harbaugh fever too and it's driving me nuts. And I can't listen to 97.1 because of the endless MSU fans screaming over and over that it's never going to happen and the YouTube related videos of Harbaugh with the comment section have the rest of the college football world chiming in that it's never going to happen....to go along with all the NFL experts saying its never going to happen. I feel like Ralphie in the Christmas Story movie. I know what my dream gift is for Christmas but the rest of the world keeps telling me no because I'll shoot my eye out.

I've had trouble (and still do) believing a successful NFL coach 2 years out from a SuperBowl appearance would walk away from accomplishing that to go back to College.

If Harbaugh gets a Brinx's truckload of cash and dictatorial control of an NFL franchise as I suspect will happen I won't be upset with a "second" option like Les Miles, Sean Payton, Dan Mullen, Bob Stoops or maybe Kyle Whathisface from Utah.

Three's a charm and I think Hackett has some smart folks helping him assess the best fit and potential coach ranked by desireability.  We'll be fine and have our coach within 3 weeks whether it be Harbaugh or choice #2.
