Submitted by julesh on

I urge President Obama to nominate to the Supreme Court the wise and competent, Judge Extraordinaire Judith Sheindlin.

And think that's a great idea. She sure wouldn't put up with a lot of shit.

On an unrelated note: does the Supreme Court have jurisdiction to outlaw whiners? Asking for a friend...

Judge Judy would be an interesting choice. She'd have to take a huge pay cut. She makes like 50 million a year. She was a well respected prosecutor and a judge before the show, so she's got legit credentials. I'd guess people might have a problem with her age (73).

Cunningham's Law states "the best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question, it's to post the wrong answer." I guess when I thought about legit credentials, I was thinking legit credentials meant she was a real judge, but I completely missed the mark on the fact that being a former judge doesn't qualify one to be on the SCOTUS. In retrospect, I think I shot for the sun and hit Pluto.

to start, she went to a law school outside the top 100.  Then, per wikipedia, she worked for a "cosmetics firm" (whatever the hell that is), followed by stints as a family law prosecutor and then a state criminal and family court judge.  Then, of course, she's been an arbitrator on TV for many years, doing work entirely unrelated to law as a Supreme Court Justice practices it.

That's a fine career, but no finer than many tens of thousands of attorneys throughout the country, none of whom are even remotely qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice.

Also, she's not more eloquent than Clarence, who is much, much smarter than he's given credit for (regardless of whether you agree with him).
