God this new site is ASS. Nobody (with one or two exceptions) can figure out how to embed anything and if you want to post a GIF you've got to download the fucking thing to your computer first. We cant edit posts, cant vote on new threads, cant see but one or two comments max thanks to the volumous amount of white space and yes I know volumous is apparently spelled wrong but the stupid fucking spell check they used doesnt fix the word...it just tells you it's spelled wrong. How fucking stupid is that?
Comments on anything have been reduced to single digits in some cases meaning virtually all conversations have been stopped. The last post to get over a 100 responses was about a week ago and that was on TV shows. Shit, used to be you could get over 100 talking about kitchen cabinets - now you're lucky to get 25 in a World Cup thread.
The front page shows me posts from a week ago on my phone and and I have to scroll down to try and figure out if anything actually new has been posted. To get to the Board I have to make four clicks and then I only see a handful of what's new cause the first tour or five listed are sticky's. And if i do post anything (and these days I'm tranistioning from active poster to lurker to infrequent visitor) I can dropped on the last page of a the post and have to figure out where I left off. My preferences dont hold so everytime I come here I have to tell this stupid version of MGoBlog that yes, I'd like to look at more than 50 posts please and yes, i'd like to sort them oldest to newest please.
Took Coca-Cola about three months to figure out back in the 80's that people HATED New Coke and they flipped back to their original recipe. Just based on the number of comments alone (or lack thereof I've got to believe that new coke was more loved than this version of the web site is right now.

Can't argue with any of this. Site visits have to be at record lows since the redesign, and, unfortunately, I imagine people are creating new habits to replace the old habit of checking in on the blog. Ad revenue and sponsors will follow traffic trends, only they'll be slightly delayed. That's when I imagine we'll see some changes.

Yeah, it's pretty terrible. I miss the old site. I figured I'd get used to this but...no. I've actually been hanging on a Yankee baseball site since it's summer and baseball season and the Yankees are kicking ass. Plus this interface is not good. But hey, I'm still coming for the sweet, sweeeeet content. Just not the message board.

It's clear they don't care as much about the message board and are more interested in their front page content. They've stated that the vast majority of visitors to this site are front page viewers only.
But is the front page "better"? Graphics seem better but the tile layout makes zero sense to me. I just opened up the site on my phone (my normal viewing vehicle when not at work) and I get "MgoPodcast", then the post from Ace on Basketbullets then back to the MgoPodcast. How on earth is that "better"?
I can see no possible benefit or presenting to the user the same tile link identically twice and sometimes I'll get something much older first, then something newer, than finally the newest front page post buried under two or three older posts. How is that "better"?
And now that I re-read your comment I realize that you never claimed that the front page was better, just more important. So if I had the ability to edit (which I dont) I'd fix that so my response to your comment made sense. But because I dont have that functionality anymore I've got to create an entirely new post to clarify the error in my response instead of just fixing the error I made.
Once was was easy (embedding video, GIFs, editing comments, having a discussion with somebody, etc) is now fucking virtually impossible.
That horizontal grid will go away eventually. We built a site at my job with a horizontal grid and it became wasted space. No one clicked on it and scrolled down for the content anyway. Hopefully they are using heatmap technology and will revisit that idea in three months.
Well i come here less for the front page now then i did before. I hate to be a hater but i hate the new site.

They did a good job last season of keeping the site from crashing (only happened to me once or twice) I would like if they just went back to that.

The site needs work, true. I strongly believe that HUEL did them wrong - this is more backward than it should have been. HUEL should be ashamed of themselves for this release because it was not ready. If I were looking for someone to build a web page for me, HUEL was just crossed off my list, and there's no need for a price negotiation, either. Just gone. (Of course, Brian's price may not have included everything it should have had. In which case, HUEL still gets the public hit because they did the work. It's just business...)
All that said, there is a sticky thread documenting the on-going work. I haven't checked it in quite a while, so I don't know if its still being updated. Nonetheless, the site is what we have, and it will slowly improve. Either stick it out, or go away.
Yep. This. This site is a treasure and the choice of contractor for this re-launch was huge. I don't know what the contractor is doing to make this right but frankly the MGObrand has taken a hit here. If it was driven by MGOstaffers dictating things then fine, thats on them and not huel but it seems much of the issues here were driven by a web contractor who couldn't carry their end of the project. Still going to come here but nowhere near as frequent without the living organism that was the MGOboard and it's motley crew.

Sometimes it is better to go back to what you had than try to tinker with a new product, hoping for previous results.
Case in point: there is a casino where I live that decided to scrap their buffet, in favor of a multi-themed food station restaurant. After 6 disastrous months of lost revenue they redesigned the new layout to be a buffet again. The current incarnation is neither of the former eateries, and a bigger failure than the original redesign.
Except the last “improvement” took years and years and isn’t really an improvement at all
I bookmarked the Message Board on my i-Phone so I can go straight to it. If I want to see the main pages, I then hit the main link. That's the best way I have found to navigate the main pages I usually look at.
same here, so I end up having less front page visits than before. Don't know if that affects their ad views etc.
This!!!! I’ve done the same thing on my iPhone as well. I only check the main page when it is referenced on the board. The comment formatting is pretty bad too! It is really difficult at times to see who is commenting to who.
I have been saying it for a while: IMPLEMENT A QUOTE REPLY FEATURE.
It’s far easier to see who replies to whom with quote replies. Indented replies are complete garbage. 247 uses quote replies. It’s not hard to use. It makes for a far cleaner thread.
+1000 The new site is not a message board friendly layout. It's difficult to see which posts are new anymore without the "new" icon, and who's responding to who. Overall the site looks better, but functionally, it's ass.

The 2016 season was the pinnacle. Old site and MGoBlogHD app. The app was much better for the board, and the homepage stories were easy to navigate. Not being able to upvote was worth the cleanliness of the board, and the desktop version was much much better.
I would pay more for the old site to be back and the HD app, than I do for HTTV that’s for sure
This x10000000. The HD App was amazing. I get why they cut it, but I don’t get why they just didn’t make an app just like it for the redesign. People use apps for everything. I can’t believe they thought not having one was a good idea.

Completely agree. I come here maybe 2-3 times per week now as opposed to refreshing the front page or message board 10-20 times PER DAY. Quite sad, really. I wonder how they tested this before launching because it's.. just.... not good at all.
Have to agree with everything mGrowOld said. While I of course am appreciative of all the work that the principals put into Mgoblog, I cannot for the life of me understand why they think this new site is preferable to the old site. I have to assume it comes down to something as basic as ego. I no longer go to Mgoblog as my "Go To" website, needless to say. I will still check Mgoblog from time to time, but not on a daily basis as I used to do. Coke got it right when they went back to the old Coke - what are the chances Mgoblog will do the same? Slight chance that Mgoblog will have the guts to admit that the "new" version is a mistake and go back to the old I suspect. But I would love to be proven wrong.
I'm not going to disagree with you, mGrowOld, but will point out that internet comment sections are going the way of the dinosaur. ESPN just axed its comments sections. While this site was demonstrably better than most, it has had its own issues with trolls, vapid comments, and general RCMB tendencies. I don't know the answer, but I wonder whether these sections add real value to a site. Could the moderators' time be better spent creating content rather than sifting through posts and banning trolls?
I do look forward to an improved front end to the site...
Internet comment sections are the new religion. They create social networks and strengthen bonds in service of a greater good.

While Brian and Ace have the ability to moderate, they have moderators for that reason. As far as I know, the full time moderators don't create content. My point is that the content creators don't have to worry about wasting too much time on moderating.
The ESPN comment stuff really makes me mad, I loved to watch people go at it over there. Any idea if it is just temporary? I know a lot of people used it to attack ESPN and their writers, wonder if that's why they took them down.
My understanding is that it is a permanent closure.
I guess this is why Reddit/Yahoo and all the other larger media company's leave the old UI up for so long.
