Harbaugh Debunks NFL Rumors

Submitted by allezbleu on December 9th, 2018 at 11:44 AM

"This is a choreographed message that comes up at this time every year before signing day," Harbaugh told ESPN this weekend. "It's people spreading messages to further their own personal agenda.

"But I'm on record right here, right now: I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying at Michigan. We have big plans here, and there's a lot we want to accomplish."

Those are our best wins and Wisco just racked up a 7-win season, so that win was hardly over a powerhouse.

The entire post was well-reasoned and logical, you dumb bitch. You’re just upset at the reality of our program and directing it toward me for actually speaking the truth rather than some bullshit optimism, as everyone else on here is prone to do.

I remember a recruit for bb named Ty Battle, 5*, “committed to Michigan, changed his mind and went to Syracuse and Boeheim.  Josh Langford committed to Sparty after Battle commuted.  That worked pretty well for JB and the b-ball team. Somethings are meant to be.

Even worse than the national writers and so-called in-the-know people that try to fan this flame each winter are the fools who BELIEVE that he would go back to the NFL given his situation in Ann Arbor and his own statements to the contrary.

The most interesting part for me is that the link in the OP is from the ESPN NFL page, not the ESPN college football page.

These are NFL people he is saying this to, not just college people he is looking to placate or recruit.

Nick Saban isn't addressing his NFL rumors like Harbaugh just did.

So I don't know that my comment deserves its own thread, but it is kind of related so I'll put it here. (After all, as per this OP example, it is in a college coaches best interest to  publicly state if they are not leaving for the NFL next season, because, recruiting. So, yes, Harbaugh just came out again and said he isn't leaving, after rumors again surfaced. Surprise?

However you lose a ton of cred if you publicly state that you aren't leaving, and then do.

Nick Saban to the NFL rumors are also pretty common at the end of football season. They are, here again. (Though to be clear his contract runs through 2025).

He also has in years past publicly stated he isn't leaving for the NFL once these rumors start in January or whenever asked if he was leaving the program. He also is pretty consistent that he wants a challenge and that football is his love so he isn't going to give it up anytime soon

This year, there's a blueblood packers program opening, and his name has been mentioned to the tune of at least one SI article and lots of other rif-raf message board talk. So far he hasn't addressed the rumors at all- something interesting considering signing day is very soon.

You could also read the tea leaves from his stated position on not scheduling home and home games against good non-conference teams, something he's made sure never happens since he has been at Alabama. Alabama agreed earlier this year for the first time since he's been there, to home-home with Texas for the 2022-2013 season. - That point's a stretch, but it is of some note.

His wife also gave the wall street journal this overlooked (reposted) tid-bit:

“You come to a crossroads and the expectations get so great, people get spoiled by success and there gets to be a lack of appreciation,” Terry lamented, “we’re kind of there now.”

Saban came out against Alabama fans this year as well, ripping them for not being... fans due to a lack of home support against some Lafayette school.

"I've never said anything like that before. When I first came here, you used to play that tradition thing up there and everybody was cheering and excited and happy and there was great spirit, aight. Now they don't even cheer."

I'm not sure if this is great or not...

OK, it's  good thing, but next year is a big year.  Beat Ohio State or it might be time to move on.  OSU will have a new rookie coach, if we can't beat them at the Big House next year, Harbaugh might as well leave so we can find someone who can.

I wish people would stop with the OSU loss is what caused the decommitment .  As sad as it is, OSU has owned Michigan for the last 14 plus years.. and he still committed.  We have never been in the playoffs or competed for a NC since 97.  He knew the history of the program and its perceived “failures” of the last few years, yet still committed.  I don’t know the reason why he decommitted, but it was not the result of ONE game.  I will bet money on that.
