Gregg Henson Appreciation Thread
Downvote as you wish. No idea what the dispute was with him - all he has done be correct.
The "crowned one" nailed this first and has never wavered. He started at 85%. Also nailed Brandon firing within 72 hrs, and nailed Hoke hire 4 years ago. Was ahead of the local crowd and way ahead of the national crowd. And yes he used to make me laugh on local radio - and is a big UM slappy. His sources were and continue to be pure. I tip my hat to the crowned one - when he didnt waver I had way more confidence from Dec 1 forward.

Yeah, Greggg kept hope alive when the days were really dark.
Thank you, brother, for calling it like you saw it in spite of the haters.
Good sources or clairvoyance, I don't care. Either way, he has quite a record now: Brandon, Hoke, Harbaugh.

downvote this. No way. Guy is pretty courageous for standing up the NFL monolith.

I always like how he called Sparty 'slappies' back in the day.

Gregg was a local detroit sports radio jock for quite a while, moved into production and then eventually out of town. Sort of that "shock jock, loudmouth" role, big UM fan. Went on to a few other spots, now in Pittsburgh. Obviously still has a good amount of moles within the walls of the Fort. Has been firmly pounding table on Brandon being fired, and Hoke being fired as long ago as mid October. Said Harbaugh is coming since November. Never wavered. Moved his "percent" up from 85% to "93%" about 2 weeks ago after 49ers eliminated from playoffs.

WTKA plz get rid of Huge and hire Gregg Henson.

Huge is horrible. So I whole-heartedly agree.

was that the problem with GH was not that his stuff was wrong, it's that it was stuff that the AD didn't want generally distributed yet.
So posting the latest from Henson was verboten primarily because it might screw up negotiations somewhere or get Brian in trouble with his own sources.

Been saying all along, this is a guy who was in the Detroit media market enough to cultivate not a few sources close to Michigan. Yep, he's goofy. But he's been right more than he's been wrong. Count me in on the appreciation, grains of salt and all.
December 27th, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
That being said the guy was nothing but right recently. His sources were there.

If only Bacon was a NFL reporter and you know - not a personal childhood friend of Jim.

I have to admit - I check his webpage multiple times a day. When days were dark, he kept me optimistic.

I think he's been a alright source. But I have seen way better sources. There is a guy on Stadium and Main who has called this all from the beginning well before Henson or anybody else. He is just a regular poster to but his sources have been right on So good job on Henson and whoever else but they weren't the first to break this story.

"Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown"...it's the crown that brings him all the heat. He's been pretty on with everything he's predicted this fall although he'll get almost 0 credit for it other than possibly here.

He's a one-source reporter. Guy got into an argument with me and BiSB earlier this year when he published that list of grievances from that he purported to be a thing signed by a bunch of players when it was an email one guy forwarded to a lot of people.
Being right is less important than being right for the right reasons. He called Harbaugh because he heard the same things from M people that we did: M people were pushing Jim hard to come back. But rather than put it in context he ran to be the first to say Harbaugh's coming.
I don't think that's the kind of journalism that deserves any kind of appreciation. It's guessing well.

Just tried to follow him and found out that he blocked me hahahah I've never tweeted at him, I'm not sure how or why he blocked me. I guess I'll just have to come here to find out what he tweets.

In his latest post, Henson says that QB Josh Rosen, Rivals' #1 overall recruit for 2015, will decommit from UCLA and join Michigan if Harbaugh is hired:
I got another interesting text from a good source that Josh Rosen “is in” if Jim is indeed named the next Head Coach at Michigan. Rosen is a California kid who is committed to UCLA, but sources say he will more than likely be a Wolverine once the search is resolved next week. That is a bit of a surprise to me as Michigan already has a nice prospect in the class, Alex Malzone from Birmingham Brother Rice. I’ll admit, I know next to nothing about recruits, I’m just passing it along from a solid source.

Don't want to brag, but if you have followed my account during the whole coaching search, you would of known we were spot on. #GoBlue

Dudes been right on everything including the narratives that would come out beforehand (NFL insiders saying he's going there and walking it back, wife supposedly not wanting to leave Bay area, etc, etc). Not to mention he was MONTHS before anyone else stating DB would get fired even before the Minnesota concussion debacle.
