The Great QB Battle of 2018!!!

Submitted by Santa Clause on

Ok, so the elves and I are smoking that legal North Pole gooooood shit, it got me thinking. Bros we are going to have the three best quarterbacks in the country...ALL AT ONE TIME!! Like holy shit. 5th year Speight (asuming he stays), RS Junior Peters, and RS Freshman McCaffrey. And to top it all off we have QB master Jim Harbaugh as our head fucking coach. The future is bright my friends, the future is fucking bright.

Speaking of quarterbacks, can someone explain why any high school QB with NFL aspirations would choose to play for Urban Meyer?  The guy has not developed a single NFL QB in 15 years as a head coach.

Whether or not Speight sticks around for his fifth year depends on how he does in 2017. Hopefully he sets the world on fire and breaks multiple passing records, in which case Godspeed to him and the competition will be between McCaffrey, Peters and whoever else is in the mix at that time.

The odd thing to think about is whether or not all three of these guys are going to stick around for their whole careers. Specifically McCaffery and Peters.

Let's say Speight remains the undisputed starter and he stays for the next two years until he graduates. By the time he leaves, Peters has two years left, and McCaffery will have three. Whoever gets that job after Speight, my guess is there won't be much room left for the other guy. Especially if McCaffery wins the job over Peters.

Obviously this is projecting way out into the future, and who knows what'll happen. But it might not be all that surprising if one of them transfers at some point.

With the way Harbaugh is recruting the QB position, I think we're gonna end up seeing highly rated guys who hardly see the field and end up grad transferring. That's a great thing as far as I'm concerned. But by 2018 for either Peters or McCaffrey to be gone seems like a slim chance. Speight very well could be though.

advantage. Though if Peters has the talent he should challenge him in summer camp. I do think Peters will win out over O'Korn for the backup spot.

I would not be that surprised if Speight finds himself in the Heisman conversation next year. If he makes another leap under Harbaugh, watch out. He has serious talent and mental toughness.

Shhhh, don't point out the obvious! Did you not see that Bama lost 3 QBs in like a weeks time(maybe less). We already have Morris transferring out, don't scare off others!! Lol

That seems to be the only thing missing in his arsenal.  I'm still thinking that if he hits one one or two of those deep balls at Iowa, we win comfortably and he doesn't get injured scrambling in the fourth quarter.

And I have a hunch that if he is able to consistently hit the deep ball, then he's gone after next season as a high draft pick.  6'6" QBs with his mobility and training under a QB sensei are hard to find.

In a perfect world, Speight has such a great year in 2017 that he leaves with his degree in hand for the NFL. That said, if Speight is indeed still here in 2018, it'd be damn hard to unseat a 2-year starter. Brandon Peters could very well be the next great Michigan QB, but he won't have had much starting experience, if any, by then and I just don't see how Speight would lose that job in 2018.
