Grant Perry reinstated
August 11th, 2017 at 6:43 PM ^
He already was? Oh well great anyway.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:47 PM ^
U-M and Ward made a statement to officially bringing him back
August 11th, 2017 at 6:50 PM ^
Someone from BTN just released a pic of him at practice. Weird seeing a little WR in the 88 jersey!
August 11th, 2017 at 7:35 PM ^
Yeah when i see that jersey I expect to see Butt, but instead it's just a guy that grabbed one...
August 11th, 2017 at 7:39 PM ^
I knew it was coming, haha.
Grabbing that Butt jersey and running with it.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:35 PM ^
Glad to see there weren't any Butt references.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:52 PM ^
Just Win, Baby!
August 11th, 2017 at 6:52 PM ^
I don't love it.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
Me neither. But it's done. Time to move on, I guess.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:07 PM ^
Idk if I'd say that, I'm not sure what any of us can do about it but that doesn't mean you just move on from a perceived injustice
August 11th, 2017 at 8:06 PM ^
The legal process seemed to be satisfied that justice was served.
Just curious what consequences would assuage your personal level of outrage?
August 11th, 2017 at 8:34 PM ^
How about a real apology to the victim? You know... by actually looking at her?
Perry stood facing the judge during victim statement. Later apologized to the victim while looking at the judge.

Oh man, I missed that part. Let's definitely kick him off the team now.
August 11th, 2017 at 8:59 PM ^
maybe this is a crazy idea, but hear me out... finishing out his probation for a felony before reinstating him as a representative to an institution.
August 11th, 2017 at 9:34 PM ^
You're entitled to that opinion, but that hasn't been consistent with how discipline had been administered historically, here or elsewhere. Graham Glasgow, Darryl Stonum, and Frank Clark were allowed to participate while on probation off the top of my head.
At any rate, the fact he didn't look the victim in the eye really had zero bearing on what consequences he should face.
August 11th, 2017 at 11:39 PM ^
and had to look these up. Stonum was suspended for the 2011 season and subsequently violated his probation and served a short jail sentence, after which he was kicked off the team.
Clark was kicked off the team November 2014 but before that, did play while on probation.
Glasgow also played while on probation for DUI.
So,"off the top of your head" is pretty good.
James Whitley, a co-captain, was kicked off the team at the end of the 2000 season (missed the bowl game) but I can't recall if he had any prior offenses.
August 12th, 2017 at 12:20 AM ^
Was Stonum on probation already prior to his second offense in 2011 that got him suspended for the season? Maybe I remembered that wrong.
August 11th, 2017 at 8:36 PM ^
You could organize letter writing campaigns, donation withholding, protests, boycotts, ask for a meeting with Warde and Jim and bring a bunch of victims of similar things to speak to them about this and the messages it sends.
August 11th, 2017 at 10:17 PM ^
On one hand, he was convicted of a felony and a misdemeanor. On the other hand, the sexual component of the case was "he said, she said" and the statement at his sentencing sounded like it was written by an attorney with a civil suit in mind. Also, there was no accusation of penetration, ala the Sparty players. Furthermore, he has already been punished by the courts and by the school.
I am just going to trust that Harbaugh and Manuel are smart enough to make the right decision. In Harbaugh we trust and welcome back to Perry.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:38 PM ^
I know it's 2017 and we're all supposed to be jumping over each other to show how very serious we are that sexual assault is a bad bad thing, but let's not pretend what he did was some irredeemable horror, either. Of the range of sexual assault, this is on the very mildest end of the spectrum, if it is even on it at all (the prosecutor, for her part didn't beleive the crime was "of a sexual nature"). The kid already paid a price for his mistakes, legally and in terms of football, I have zero issues letting him back on the team after being suspended for the better part of a year.
August 11th, 2017 at 8:10 PM ^
The judge agreed with the prosecutor.
August 11th, 2017 at 8:48 PM ^
You're stating my thoughts more coherently than they actually were before I read this. Well said.
August 11th, 2017 at 9:54 PM ^
Just like Al Kessel, we're with you.

"Perry, 19, is accused of grabbing a female Michigan State student by the groin and buttocks during an argument outside Lou & Harry's bar just after midnight on Oct. 15, 2016"
As much attention this has had on this board at least most of you have read this BUTT keep pretending all he did was grab her butt when he also actually TRUMPED her! Just like The Prezald said, when you're a celebrity you can grab women by the pussy and get away with it!
You can use the judge's statement as a fig leave all you want, she said she didn't think it was sexual in intent, just for intimidation, just an assault, but when you assault someone by grabbing their sex organ with intent to intimidate, or show that you "own' her, which is the way he did it according to the victim, isn't that right in the standard definition of a sexual assault of some degree? Haven't they always said rape and other sex crimes are about power and are crimes of violence not sex? Isn't that what happened? Don't they still prosecute sex crimes as sex crimes anyway? Jesus, if you fucking pee in the bushes they convict you of a sex offense and put you on the registry!!!!
August 11th, 2017 at 9:20 PM ^
Thankfully he didn't Clinton her
August 11th, 2017 at 9:56 PM ^
In this day and age, it's all about the virtue signaling.
August 12th, 2017 at 1:05 PM ^
My biggest problem is that I don't feel there should be a range of sexual assault. This is root of the problem. Guys being allowed to get away with crap like this because it's "on the very mildest end of the spectrum". Sure, it's not rape but it's still completely out of line. Since this first started and the police report came out, I've seen people all over talking about how he "just" grabbed her ass and that everybody does stupid things like that when they're drunk. As a woman, the fact that anybody considers that a justifiable statement offends greatly offends me. When are people going to get it? THIS is the problem. We're telling guys that grabbing a girl's genitals unprompted and uninvited is no big deal. Not to mention what that says to girls. Seriously, as a female, what am I supposed to think about that?
I don't know. I really don't like this. But like I said, it's done now and the matter's closed for the coaches and the courts.
August 12th, 2017 at 2:08 PM ^
There should still be a spectrum of punishment severity since there is a VERY wide spectrum of actions that can be considered as sexual assualt.
Also, sexual assault is not exclusively male-on-female.
August 12th, 2017 at 5:41 PM ^
accompanying climax should be punished more severely than slapping someone on the bum?
I disagree.
August 13th, 2017 at 10:52 AM ^
Bravo.
August 13th, 2017 at 1:57 PM ^
The punishments should absolutely differ drastically. I'm talking about the spectrum in terms of societal acceptability.
August 11th, 2017 at 8:14 PM ^
I would bet you did many stupid things. UM in Sparta is a set up.
They prosecute him and not Gibson Johnson and the next generation of sex offenders. What parents send their kids to that inequity ? Sorry. Just facts.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:52 PM ^
He better love running those steps...
August 11th, 2017 at 8:10 PM ^
I do hope he's kept on a short leash. Kid showed horrible judgement (as I'm sure we all have), but he's also under a microscope considering the position he's in, and it's going to be even worse now.
I fully expect the coaching staff to make him aware of how high the expectations are for him to continue to be allowed to be involved with the team.
And I hope he has no further issues of any nature and keeps his nose clean.
August 11th, 2017 at 8:34 PM ^
Mixed emotions here too. And if you think the staff or admin finds this decision easy or clear-cut, note that they released this at the end of the day on a Friday. If you have news you want to bury or get as little press as possible, that's when you release it.
August 11th, 2017 at 9:47 PM ^
12:50am Tuesday morning for that....
Too soon?
August 11th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
let the comments start.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
Oh boy, this thread gonna be wilder than a mutha fuckin honkey tonk on the sunny side of a Texas something-or-other!
August 11th, 2017 at 6:53 PM ^
I won't believe it until there are four more SIAPs here.
August 11th, 2017 at 6:57 PM ^
Good. His actions were displeasing but he went through due process and now deserves a second chance. I know the holier than thou people will disagree but im glad he was reinstated.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:07 PM ^
I heard the phrase "recreationally outraged" a while back, and couldn't think of a better way to describe people who have to demonstrate that *they* condemn an action the most and that if it were up to *them*, there would be much tougher consequences, up to and including lynching.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:24 PM ^
Ordering a Coke and getting a Pepsi is "displeasing." This was more than that...
August 11th, 2017 at 7:27 PM ^
Lol ok. You try too hard sometimes with your posts.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:33 PM ^
I just want to make you happy, dad! Seriously, displeasing is a bad adjective for what he did. It really is more serious than that, regardless how we feel about his reinstatement.
August 11th, 2017 at 7:34 PM ^
I would argue that getting a Pepsi is wrong, not displeasing. This is wrong. I don't think he deserves more legal punishment, just that he shouldn't be representing our university any more.
