GOT season 7 episode 5! East watch

Submitted by jdon on

Whats up?

After last weeks episode I am expecting the action to continue right from the begining to end.

I realized we only have three episodes left this year, so does that mean next week is the 'surprise' week?  Personally I expect non stop action...

I'm still hoping Jamie ends up on the throne!

&

I'm praying Tormund survives!

1. Just make the river that Jaime and Bronn fell in have a current. Then's it's slightly believable that they wash up 100s of yards downstream.

2. Grabbing a single or handfull of wights? Seems like a very stupid plan. Incredibly stupid. It's not being brave. It's being idiotic. They're gonna have to be saved by Benjen or Dany IMO. 3-4 of the Magnificent Seven will die. I think Thoros is as good as dead. Beric too probably. Jorah and Tormund I'm a little iffy on. I think Gendry survives because he's going to make Valyrian steel. Jon, obvs. The Hound still has a mission after this.

3. Second stupid part of the plan - Cersei ain't going to do shit about the White Walkers. She wants the throne. That's it. She'll be more than happy to agree to an armistice while Dany, Jon and Co head North to lose forces to the Army of the Dead. She'll deal with that when it's presented to her.

4. Robbett Glover and Bronze Yohn Royce are a couple of stupid motherfuckers. Bronze Yohn has never had an affinity for Littlefinger. Now all the sudden, he's partaking in a plot with him? Glover said he'd regret not fighting with him at the Battle of the Bastards til the end of his days. Now he's just gonna start pushing for Sansa to be the Queen in the North? Some regret....

5. Arya has gotta be smarter than to believe that a raven written just before Robb called the banners was not her. She is savvy enough to assume that Sansa's hand was forced in this situation. I know she's got some distrust for her sister, but this would be over the top if she believed it IMO. My hope is that she knows that Littlefinger knows that she's following him. And is just one step ahead in his stupid little game. He dead either way.

Regarding #4, they don't necessarily know they are partaking in a plot with him.  We don't know what they are talking about, it may be mundane but intended by Littlefinger to arouse Arya's suspisions.

And Arya isn't exactly versed in this world the way Sansa has become.  Arya ignored her teachings as a kid and learned on the streets, which would make her ripe for manipulation by Littlefinger.  Hopefully Sansa sees through it.

Those are the two people most vocal about following Sansa/complaining Jon is not there. They're also seen with Littlefinger. I don't see anyway in which Littlefinger isn't encouraging them to say that.

Even if Glover isn't part of a plot or scheme, he's still idiotic to turn on Jon so quickly after he just voiced his regrets when he kneeled for Jon. He's a moron.

I would say that wanting Sansa over Jon as ruler in the North is a plot. And he is the driving force behind it. And Royce and Glover are with him on this. They're not in on the parts of the plot with Arya. But they do want Sansa to have more power and are working with Littlefinger in that regard IMO.

Plot when used with Littlefinger tends to be more devious than stand in front of your peers and proclaim to want to change rulers. Again I do not think they are plotting just because they are unknowingly going along with some master plan littlefinger has. Just because their views align does not make them co-conspirators.

We can agree to disagree and maybe it will be more clear next week.

I was thinking the same thing about Cersei. I don't think she gives a shit about white walkers or whether or not they actually exist. She knows she doesn't have the numbers to take Danaerys head-on, so I don't think she minds having an "armistice." Danaerys and the North are all focused on white walkers or fighting amongst themselves while she bides her time in the South re-building her defenses. She's happy to wait and see if they'll destroy themselves.

Even if she does believe they exist, I think Cersei would happily seal off King's Landing and let the walkers all destroy Westeros as long as she remains safe. She's shown she couldn't give two shits about the fate of the common people as long as she has what she wants.

literally cannot do anything until the Golden Company arrives, anyway.  She has no ground troops left and Euron is keeping the unsullied under seige at Casterly Rock (supposedly).

So an armistice does nothing unless Dany thinks Cersei would actually wait on summoning sellswords, which like, c'mon, of course she's not gonna wait.

Speaking of the unsullied, was it weird that Missandei wasn't in this episode? Or was she in the "war room" and I just didn't notice her?

not realize how dumb this expedition north of the wall is, and that some of these guys will die? And that a rescue mission from Dany is almost assured after she gave Jon those googly eyes? (Admittedly, I hadn't thought about Benjen, though)

Script leaks or not, these are pretty obvious conclusions.

has mentioned how good Davos was in the smuggling scene.  We got to see him in his element.  I was really hoping those would be onions under the blanket but fermented crab with male enhancing properties makes for better TV to the casual fans.

He's such a good character and Cunningham plays that role so well.

Sansa said they have the Vale army of 2000. What? The Vale has 45,000 soldiers. Are they saying that's all the Vale has? Because that is really off. If they're saying the Vale is holding back 43K soldiers for a rainy day well the end of civilization is at hand. Its a rainy day.

Knowing they had just 12 episodes left entering this season has changed the feel of the show, no doubt.

This episode featured Sam, Gilly and the baby starting a journey in a horse and cart. In the past, that journey would have been a huge part of their story.

But this season, it means they're taking a ten-minute jaunt to one of the hubs of the new Westeros mass teleporting system.

I think they're trying to explain this as lots and lots of time going on between scenes - maybe months, even years. But there are still holes in the logic. I think they're doing a good job under the circumstances, but I wish HBO had committed to 40 episodes to get there rather than 12.

I don't understand this critique. If they went over every detail, like they do in the books, the show would be 20 seasons long, with 2 hour long battles and several episodes just showing characters on a horse for 30 days straight.

With a show with this many characters, plots, and subplots, I think they are doing a damn good job. I'm not really interested in mundane travel details in the TV show format. The books can do that much better.

Good lord. Thank you. Seriously. I'll never understand how people can watch a show or movie and just over analyze like that. Just sit and enjoy the damn show already. It's fiction. It doesn't need to follow all of the rules of real life. It's a show that has three dragons in it for crying aloud.
