I was just giving Amsterdam travel advice to someone last night. Van Gogh Museum, Red Light District, Museum of Sex, National Maritime Museum, and take the boat tour.

the best day-trip from Amsterdam is The Hague/Schevinengen if the weather is nice. Very cool beach community with a boardwalk and pier.  Also, a fun little M.C. Escher museum.

Other good ones: Delft for a well-preserved quaint community, Haarlem for a hip scene, Gouda if you're into cheese (and who isn't?).  Rotterdam for some very cool modern architecture and a robust underground DJ scene if you're into that at night.

The Rijksmuseum (probably better than Van Gogh if you like variety thanks to the Rembrandts, Vermeer's, etc.).  Also, the Anne Frank house is pretty powerful and high on the list of must-sees. And if the timing is right, try to make it to an Ajax game.

EDIT: Should have looked at most of these mentioned above.

The best part about Amsterdam is the friendly chill pub scene though.  And try to get to De Drie Fleschjes for some Jenever tasting if you're a when-in-Rome kind of traveler.

Cheers to the weekend

Not sure what the local drink of choice is in the Netherlands, but I will be partaking in some fine tequila.

GO BLUE!!!
