Gatorobait.net: take on the game

Submitted by MGlobules on

I did my undergrad at Michigan and my doctorate at UF; no divided loyalties--I'm an Ann Arbor kid from a family where every single member went to UM and wouldn't root for UF in tiddlywinks. But they do send me a lot of emails about their football squad. Their 247 people look like they were impressed with what they saw. Enjoy:

A lot of 247 pages seem to do that. There was an article of Michigan players' tweets criticizing the Bleacher Report video that says Peppers is overrated. You were literally supposed to click on a new page for every single tweet, which of course were each just a couple words or a sentence, so I gave up on that.

Florida is going to be in a tricky spot offensively against us. Their receivers are very good and their starting RB Scarlett is too. However, they will be starting a new QB and our DL should beat their OL consistently. Obviously, if you're UF you would hope the inverse to be true. I don't think they will be able to get much going on us. We should be able to shut down the run and pressure Franks into mistakes.

On D they will be very young. They will have talent on the DL, but not like ours. Their back seven should be exploitable. If we can protect enough to throw and get create a few lanes for Evan and Higdon, our offense will be able to do enough to win.

That score has been my exact prediction for a little while now haha nice job. The other ginormous edge we have is coaching. There's not a coach on our staff that I would trade for the coach in the same position on theirs. McElwain, Nuss, and Shannon are all inferior to our HC and Coordinators. Harbaugh is a Jedi Master compared to McElwain. Even if the talent on the field were close I would take us 10 times out of 10 because of our coaching.

That game will be a defensive slugfest. Expect both DL's to tee off on the opposing OL. That game is coming down to who makes one more mistake, and who gets the shorter field to work with more often. But I trust Harbaugh to game plan for that.

Higdon hits the hole so fast, at least from what I noticed today. We already know Evans does too, if we can just create a semblance of a running lane I think both of them will do well against UF. Drop a couple bombs over the top to Crawford, DPJ, Black, McDoom, maybe even Nico - we have so damn many downfield threats now, not even mentioning the TE's - and I think we pull away late.

Yeah, that wasn't super optimistic from a Florida Gator's perspective. It's basically "this team is really good on defense and if their offensive line holds up a bit they'll be good." I'm feeling even better about that game now than I did going into the spring.

That is exactly the Gator way.  Living here and being surrounded by Gator fans, they are the fairest-weather of fans I have ever come across.  When adversity creeps in, they turtle.  It is for this reason that I cannot stand the Gators and love beating their ass in Football and Basketball every chance we get.

This team will toil in medicority as long as McElwain is there.   He is an ok coach but not what this program needs to be great again.  I fully expect that we will kick their ass up and down the field just like we always do.

If one of their biggest problems was picking up LB blitzes, good luck against Brown and this DL.  M should run a lot of zone and just wait for the new QB to throw it to the defense when under pressure.

I think Florida is going to be better than most people expect...especially with Zaire.

I think Michigan is going to squeak by in a "lucky" win, one we all take but admit...we easily could've, maybe even should've lost. Like the Sugar Bowl win against VT (or OSU last year against, sigh, us).

I say it'll be one of those games UF is kicking themselves over late in the year like USC's (and Oklahoma's) early losses last year.

I'm going to say Harbarugh and co. pull off a close win with a last second Nordin FG.

20-17 Michigan...we all hug and recover from our near heart attacks with A LOT of beer. I mean, A LOT.

Thanks for sharing.  Michigan is more talented albeit perhaps less experienced and I'd be willing to bet we have the speed and size advantage as well.  The first game is always a bit of a mystery but I think we have a great shot of not only winning but winning big.
