The future has been created, today we find out: Open Thread

Submitted by Thorin on

The current rumor is Ohio game moved to October, MSU game moved to last Saturday in November thus destroying the MSU - Indiana protected rivalry. Other rumors include to hell with Notre Dame, and Michigan to the Big East (OK, I made that one up). What say you?

UPDATE: Kelvin Grady, en route to New Orleans, doesn't seem too bothered.

But if the announcement is B10 related (and not just Michigan), it could actually be about throwing PSU out because of the complete lack of morals of the entire athletic department / administration by allowing a known sicko around their students.

Doubt the ND part, but the PSU part could be accurate.

I don't think that the B1G would kick PSU out quite yet (although I have to admit that it was the first thing I thought of when I heard the news that There Will Be News). I think they'd probably wait to see what shakes out in court with the Sandusky trial. However, I can imagine the Big Ten putting sanctions on Penn State so that they are already punished next football season instead of whenever Sandusky's trials and appeals and what have you finally get resolved.

I say that they boot Penn State from the Big Ten and add Notre Dame.  The institutional behavior at that school is unbecoming of a Big Ten organization, period.

Scientists have bred a wolverine that ate Tacopants and weighs more than the boilermaker train, making it the heaviest and largest mascot in NCAA football.  Tide's don't count until scientists create an embodiment of a tide.  Nascar decals don't apply.

Speculation based on some further hints the guy at Scout who started this all has dropped. Don't know for sure what announcement is but have an idea of what it isn't and the above is the only logical conclusion I can come up with.

I approve of a 9 game schedule but michigan should play osu in november even if its not the last week.  I see they merit in having the last game of the year be a divisional game because having to beat the same team two weeks in a row is hard to do in any league.

Side note,  msu fans lose it when the B1G schedules Nebraska to be Michigan's last game of the year.  Then they start talking about how great the MSU Northwestern rivalry is.

Oh man! The excitement (or nervous anxiety)! Supposedly something will be undone and something will be new.

My hopes/optimistic guesses:

Undone: The Big Ten title game will be held in Chicago so we can actually do something fun in addition to the title game, which takes up all of 3 hours.

New: The Big Ten schedule goes to 9 games and the September non-conference schedule will include a few Big Ten games each Saturday so we don't have MACrifice Saturdays.

Or both: We get rid of the dumb, pompous Divisional names and go with something simple like East and West. We can be Champions of the West for realz.

My worries/not-so optimistic guesses:

Undone: Michigan-Ohio moved to October

New: Sparty's bitching and moaning gets them a Thanksgiving weekend game versus us.

so i know that dave brandon has the final say but do you really think that if he does want to change the date of the Ohio game that Hoke wouldnt be right up in is office chewing him out?  Hoke, and it seems the rest of the influential people within the university since RR didnt even have a chance, care about michigan tradition.  it just doesnt seem to me that there wouldnt be resistance to this.

I have a feeling this announcement is not going to be huge or even that exciting. Nothing big happens anymore with twitter breaking everything three days in advance. I say I could be a scheduling thing but maybe it is just some normal house cleaning or a state-of-the-conference type thing which they pat themselves on the back.

...is so full of funny, frightening ideas.  The whole thing could be entitled, "Not Sure If Serious."

Is an announcement made on December 28 sort of like those announcements made at Washington's favorite news-dump time of 4:30 on a Friday?

I had the exact same thought.  If you are going to announce something that is going to piss people off, the best time to do it is when everyone is on vacation / not paying attention, to minimize the resulting outcry.  Based upon this theory, I am expecting this announcement to involve moving the OSU game to mid-October, with Brandon spinning it as, "once order has been restored, the M/OSU game will remain on the last week, as we expect to meet them regularly in the B10CG."

If true, I am sad.
