Frozen Four Final: Wisconsin vs Boston College
For discussing the final that we should totally be in...
I guess I don't care about the outcome TOO much, but if I had to choose I would take BC because I still hate Wisconsin for winning off those crap calls at the end of the Camp Randall game. My hate level is much lower than it was Thursday when BC was playing Miami though.
Pretty good game so far. BC up 1-0.
of surprised, given the semifinal games that there was only one goal scored in the period. But then, I guess in those two games, most of the damage was done in the second, so I'll wait another period :-p
I would also give the very slight nod to BC, because they are less close to our total number of national titles and their goalie is 7-0 in NCAA action, which I think is cool.
Wisconsin gets points because I'm angry enough where I don't think that Miami should lose to the eventual national championships and have that excuse. I'm a horrible person, I know... :-(
Go Eagles; seconded for the National Titles reason, and I've always thought their mascot was kind of cool.
Trying to pick between BC and Wisky is like rooting for El-Quieda against the Nazis. Hoping from the blimp from Black Sunday to make an appearance.
Gotta love losing the puck on a break. Looks to me like Wisconsin got the Lions locker room tonight...
I can't stand either Boston hockey program (BU/BC). Always been a dislike of them. That said, Wisconsin is Wisconsin. Luckily I walked in at the start of the 2nd period. I'm hoping for scoreless from here on out.
I just have so much discomfort watching the FF when Michigan is not in it, especially when they should be. I have been bitter all fucking day. We have guests over right now. My line all night has been "really glad I didn't have to cancel tonight to go to Ford Field."
Everyone thinks I am a douchebag. That's fine, because I am.
We should be playing Wiscy right now, not BC (I know they beat the dogshit outta Miami. In my head, we won the fantasy game 4-2 with Lynch appropriately scoring the empty-netter).
I am so proud of our hockey team and if I become a poet down the line, I'll write a sports haiku about our boys that punches the dick off of everyone who reads it. But for now, I just still feel like our guys were screwed.
I had a conversation with a patient the other day who used to play pro hockey. He dissected the "fall out" from an OT goal scored against. Hunwick deserves better than that. Our whole team does.
that the whole team deserved better, but they all have another, arguable better shot next year. Likely Red's last year and this season as motivators (how do you trump both of those?!), a great returning core (if nobody leaves (please nobody leave!!!!)), a great incoming class. They'd be feared without the chip on their shoulder. With that, with the summer months to get better and next year, they're going to be a force. Even relative to most Michigan teams.
Really, it's the seniors, who stayed four years for this to happen, that deserved better. I have no doubt Hunwick and the rest of the team will get "better" next year, but the seniors don't have that luxury. That's what I think is the killer.
Any time a team gets "jobbed," it's the seniors that get it the worst.

I won't be reading your haiku.
I'm at the game now. It is a sea of wisconsin. Quite a few michigan fans though which is nice. There was a sign thursday with "miami 2:47 OT" with "mi" in maize and blue and the red "ami" crossed out.
The wisconsin fans are so annoying, but i would probably say that about if it was their fans surrounding me.
when we played them in the regional at Van Andel (2005?) we sat next to a group of Wiscy fans. They were such pieces of fat shit. When we arrived, we did the customary "'scuse me" while trying to get to our seats. The fat assholes wouldn't move. "Go around."
Love hearing about that sign.
I don't know where you were sitting, but where I sat the Bucky fans were very nice and polite. My wife and I even went to the packed Wisky tailgate at Cheli's before the game on Saturday. We had a Bucky fan approach and say he was ashamed Mi was not at the regionals and that we got absolutely hosed. I didn't receive any negative statements from a Wisky fan all weekend. It was a complete stark contrast from the constant vulgarity chanted at Michigan fans at the Culver Classic. The only negative statement I got was from little brother yelling out Mi sucks as I was walking to Ford Field. I did get a drunk gopher fan mistake my maize jersey for a Minnesota jersey...
BC is playing really well. Coming into this tournament, I didn't think BC was all that great of a team, deserving a 1 seed, but onl because nobody else really did other than maybe NoDak who started too slow and that the first 3 were clearly above the others, shows what I know.
At the same time though, Wisconsin doesn't look like they're playing in an NC game. They're playing well, but they don't have the urgency you would expect in any tournament game, much less an NC game. That's gotta be disappointing for them. That's the same thing that beat Denver and Miami. Except Wisconsin played 3 games, Miami showed up against us and Denver didn't show up at all. BC is playing four tournament games and it's likely going to win them an NC.
Really lopsided FF, all three games. 8-1, 7-1, 5-0.
Congratulations Eagles, next year you're going to have to go through us.

i cant feel too bad about not making the frozen four. BC was clearly the best team in this tournament and i'd almost rather lose in 2OT to miami than have BC hang like 7 goals on Hunwick

BC played really, really well. But Miami struggled through the post-season, with OSU taking them to 3 games, losing to us in the CCHA semi-finals, beating Ferris and UAH 2-1, "beating" us 3-2 (their only "big" win in the post-season), with a lot of help from Knapp and then got embarrassed a little by BC. Wisconsin played well for two periods, but without much fire, it seemed and really deflated after the 2nd goal, which helped lead to BC's next 3. Again, BC played great, certainly. But that doesn't mean we couldn't have beaten them and it doesn't mean they would have hung 7 on us. Just try to picture Red, after we've lost 7-1. If you can do that without wanting to run away and hide, you are a much stronger man than I am. Maybe they beat us, maybe we beat them, maybe they do blow us out. But I would have liked to try.

22 goals scored on the weekend, 20 by the winning teams.
From a competition standpoint, awful Frozen Four.

The thing that was shocking to me (I am as rookie as they come to watching hockey) was how fast they were. #25 was the one who stood out to me. Can't remember his name (someone help me?), but he scored the open goal net.
What's disappointing is that, including this year, we made four Frozen Fours this past decade, and came up empty, with the 2003 and 2008 teams having been ranked highly all year.
To me, all of that stings. Let's hope this next decade is better for Michigan sports, and hockey in particular.
Watching BC in person for the two games this weekend, BC just came off as much faster than both teams. BC was the one team that could handle to the crappy ice conditions (they were very crappy, and shoveling snow during every break in play). BC skated circles around Miami and around Bucky in the third period of the finals. Bucky averages 37 SOG per game and they barely approached 18. I don't think any team in the nation could have stopped BC this weekend. I do believe we would not have been blown out like Miami and would have made for a much more competitive game.
