Friday Night Shut-ins Stay Warm: What are you drinking?

Submitted by WildcatBlue on November 6th, 2009 at 7:17 PM

The world has changed since our last Shut-in thread. Gone are summer warmth, autumn leaves, and the afterglow of Notre Dame.

We have cause to drink, and nerves to dull before the most important Purdue game in living memory.

So: what are you drinking, and is it nice? Also, preemptively: HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL.

Forgot to add: I'm on a Labatt Blue, soon switching to hot spiced apple cider and brandy. It's nice.

It's like 70 degrees out. I'm about to head to a high school volleyball playoff game, so no alcohol yet. Once I return, it'll be Saint Arnold's Brown Ale. It's not the best brown ale, but I'm working on getting a job with Saint Arnold, so I feel I should be overly familiar with their beers.

A fine sipping drink over ice while studying for my Monday morning exam

Tonight, who knows. Definitely not going to be shut-in once I'm done with this material!

The Blue became my beer of choice in Ann Arbor and I literally can never find it in California (unless I go to BevMo or something but I am just too lazy to do that on a regular basis).

I still have some work to get done, but once that is through I plan on pouring Cutty Sark over a big pile of ice, unless I get roped into going to dinner with a couple who are friends of my girlfriend (in which case I will just daydream about Cutty-and-Ice Mountain).

My everyday beer of choice as well from my time spent in Ann Arbor and northern Michigan. I ran into the same problem moving to Oregon. So far I've found one bar and one store. I made a little bit of a scene when I finally found it sandwiched near the specialty beers at Safeway.

pissing the night away, I got a whiskey drink, I got a vodka drink, I got a lager drink, I got a cider drink.

I am beyond worrying about the Purdue game, I don't think we are as bad as we have shown the last 2 weeks, but if we are ain't shit I can do about it anyway.

For the Chwambawamba (or however its spelled) reference.

My wife is English and it took her and I a couple of times to figure out what the hell they were saying. Also, kinda appropriate for the state of M Football: "I get knocked down/I get up again/Never going to keep me down." (Accent redacted.)

Heaven help you if you actually do the drink rotation in that song. The next morning will be rough.

Please take the following steps:

+ Go to Ashley's on State Street.
+ Sit at the bar.
+ Repeat what you said in this thread to the bartender.
+ Wait for laughter and dismay to subside.
+ Ask for help.

We're with you in this effort. Together, we can get you through this. But you've gotta WANT to change, which means you have to admit you have a problem. That's the first step.

I've seen that shit in a few random stores. There is also a Beer 30 Ice as I recall. Since it is only available in 30 packs (as far as I've seen) I haven't had the courage to dive in. I'll take your word for how putrid it is, but I'd really like to try it myself just to know.

Some Lakefront Brewery Extra Special Bitter and Anchor Steam Lager - an old standby.

As for Lakefront - I went on the tour a few years ago and their motto was "Drink Now, Tour Later." It was cheap and we got a pint glass and a bunch of beer. Highly recommended if you're in Milwaukee looking for something to do...

I cleaned out my local beer depot of their remaining stock of Sam Adams - Cherry Wheat. It's made with Cherries from Michigan. Between that and the Jameson, I might be able to drink right through the game (9am west coast starts are the best).

Probably going to mix myself a little Smirnoff and Diet Seven-Up in a bit. The lady and I are (technically) dieting. Oh so very hardcore, I know.

My girl is setting an example as bad as yours is good: she's English, so in keeping with their thousands of years of inexplicable culinary choices, is making a 'Christmas Cake.' Which is a fruit cake, density of Uranium, that you let stand for 4-6 weeks while daily 'feeding' it rum. You just keep pouring booze on it until it's as flammable and appetizing as birch bark.

I'll take the diet 7-up instead, thanks.

I do love Super Liquor, but be careful, their premium beers can tend to sit on the shelf for a very long time. I have seen Dogfish Head (my personal favorite brewery) product on the shelf their that was past the best by date.
