Friday Night Drinking Thread

Submitted by swan flu on

After making a nice eggs benedict with home fries (entirely from scratch), I had a freshly squeezed screwdriver with dinner (thanks to the fiance for that one).

Now I'm on to a few remaining Bass pale ales.  Maybe later I will pour myself a glass of Oregon whiskey.

It is a good night, my friends.

Had a Strongbow Hard Cider at Pizza House with dinner, and now I'm having a Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat as a nightcap (yes, a nightcap.  When you do systems support for accountants, they want you to suffer with them when they work Saturdays during tax season).  In retrospect, I wish I had just grabbed a Honey Brown from the fridge instead...

I made lasagna for some family - homemade sauce, homemade noodles, homemade ricotta, all surprisingly easy. Drinking some Lagunitas Sucks, some New Belgium Dig, and some weird IPA I found at the grocery store.

Well for ricotta, you just have to put 3 cups whole milk and 1 cup heavy cream in a saucepan with a little salt and slowly bring it up to 190 degrees, then take it off the heat and add a few tablespoons of lemon juice and let it sit for 5 minutes to separate the curds from the whey, then pour it all in a cheesecloth lined strainer and let it drain for 90 minutes. What's left is ricotta.

It didn't go great, but not terribly either, so I'm conflicted.

As a result of my confliction, I started with a Highland Park scotch and have now moved to a bottle of ABC Red Snapper. I like it. An excellent hoppy pale, but the roasting process mellows the sharp edge on the hops.

My doctor suggested cutting back on carbs, so I thought I'd change from the usual beer to gin and tonic....then I read the ingredients and nutritional info. on the tonic water.  Yikes.  I guess I'll skip the tonic and just sip gin with a lime twist.  And when I run out of gin go back to beer.

hi friday night drinkers! wanna send a umich group to the white house? we're so close! and it's so easy! (this isn't a scam)

quick vote for "SEE ACT 2012": www.campuschallenge.uservoice.com

several mgobloggers (including me) are involved with a group called Students for Educational Equality on campus. We provide free ACT tutoring at college mentoring to 300 studets in Detroit, Dearborn, and Ypsilanti. We've been picked by the White House as one of the 15 finalists in the Campus Champions of Change Competition. If we get to the top five, we get to go to the White House and meet with the President.

unfortunately, we're getting killed right now by a bunch of other schools (mizzou, arkansas, princeton, brown, arkansas, umass....and grinnell. which has a grand total of 1688 students. it's not osu or msu, but we gotta beat them nonetheless). please keep forwarding this to people! unfortunately undegrads are all on spring break right now so we're having a tough time reaching out to people...

if you'd like to know anything more about SEE, let me know!
