FREE Pair of Tickets **AND Game Glove** to UofM vs OSU Game Next Sat

Submitted by IUandUofM on

I would like to treat two Michigan fans to next week's OSU game in Columbus.

I have made these offers to folks during Michigan home games before, but this time I want to extend it to those living in or that can travel to my unfortunate home town of Columbus.

I have followed the advice of many of you and have given past tickets to Mott's patients and their families, and it has really made their day.  In fact, I am continuing that opportunity for a family this Saturday vs. Iowa.

However, this time I really want open it up to people based on a different theme.  I want to offer it up to a pair of Michigan super fans.

Instead of having people email me their stories, I think it would be fun to have people post why they are the most deserving super fan (photos and videos welcome).  Of course, I would prefer it go to those that would otherwise not be able to attend, but that is not a restriction this time.  Further, I'd prefer it not be a hard-luck story, as I intend to make those opportunities available to people in the future.

I have been informed by University staff that I need to avoid treating guests that are of recruitable ages.  To make it easy for me, I will not consider any teenagers (but a parent and younger child is ok).

Myself or one of my guests will meet you on Sat before the game and personally hand you the tickets (you will be sitting together in the visitors section).  We will reserve the right to withhold the tickets if we feel we have been misled in any way.

I will make the selection on Monday by 9pm.  I will respond to this post identifying the screen name of the winner and ask that they email me so we can finalize the plans.

=====================

NEW ADDITION - Jibreel Black's Game Used Glove from the Northwestern Game last week.

=====================

The person selected will now also receive Jibreel Black's left handed game glove from last week's Northwestern game.  I have seats above the tunnel and we caught the glove when it was thrown up to us after the game.  It still smells a bit sweaty ... perfect for a super fan! PLEASE DO NOT SELL THIS GLOVE, as I will trust the person selected not to do so.

Go Blue!

my wife and I live on north high street in columbus.  We are both true michigan fans.  My brother, on the the other hand, is a former OSU baseball player.  Please forgive him!!  He is the best person I know.  He is a teacher in Columbus, a baseball coach, and a true Michigan Man.  He does not know that yet.  I hate him for being a Buckeye fan, but he has continued to battle through chemo (stage 4 colon cancer) and I would love to show him what being a Michigan man is all about.  If there are questions about the authenticity of this, please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 614-746-4768.  Whatever you do, your generosity is amazing and GO BLUE!!

Hard working student who works two jobs. To see the Wolverines play in person will be a dream come true. Who ever wins they will be lucky ppl and I want to thank you for doing this. Your generosity is overwhelming. Thank you.

I was born in Lansing, Michigan and my dad is a MSU grad and my family on my dad's side are all huge MSU fans and attend all there sporting events. Thank god my mom and family on my mom's side are Michigan fans and I also moved to ann arbor when I was about 2. I started watching Michigan football at age 7 in 1994. I had to move to Florida in 1998 because of my dad's job and was crushed at the time. I was able to attend a couple games in the big house before we moved. I saw the 5-0 win vs purdue in 1995 after driving in a blizzard with my dad to get there, still remember charles woodson getting an int in that game. The other game was 1996 homecoming vs. Indiana which woodson put on a pretty good show again. Living in Orlando I was also able to attend Lloyd Carr's final game at the Capital One Bowl vs Florida. I was also visiting for thanksgiving last year and my brother and i drove down from Lansing to Ann Arbor to just tailgate and watch the Ohio game at a local bar. I have not missed watching a Michigan football game live since 1995 season. I live for Michigan football. Growing up I had lucky spots I would not move from for 3-4 hours while the game was on, not even moving for halftime as long as things were going well of course. I would sometimes get grounded for yelling at siblings or my parents for walking into the room at the wrong time  during the game and I believed they caused  something during the game to go wrong. In high school, I played 4 years varsity basketball for a powerhouse basketball school down here in Florida and during the high school years I missed fall workouts and I even showed up late for a couple practices early in the year because I was home watching Michigan. I remember my coach had me run for an entire 3 hour practice because he knew why I was late to practice, I was home watching Michigan beat Ohio, well worth the running if you ask me. Played basketball in college and missed the bus leaving for a road game my freshman year and had to drive myself 2 hours away to make it because I will not miss a moment of any game. Every game I take out all my Michigan jerseys I have and lay them all over my apartment, I have two daughters who put on there jerseys as well as my wife who knew nothing about Michigan before she met me puts hers on as well, everyone of my friends and family members know not to call me during Michigan games because it is pointless and whenever somebody friends or family try to make plans with me on a fall weekend it is always when does Michigan play or when is the game on or will Justin be making on Saturday, etc. On gameday I take out and setup the following a Michigan helmet I have, a blown up picture framed of the big house, Michigan flags, and even my first baby shoes which are nothing but maize and blue nikes which were giving to me by Gary Moeller and Im still upset my mom had me wearing them around but at least she kept them and other framed pictures of players and stuff. I named my oldest daughter Jaelyn after Jalen Rose, her middle name is Ray after Marcus Ray. I named my younger daughter Laila Maize. My cat is named Mario after Mario Manningham. My dog was named charles after charles woodson(all time favorite player). I wore number 2 all throughout my basketball career because of Mr. Woodson. I have cried after certain loses, and gone crazy after certain wins. My week doesnt feel right after we lose and can not wait until the following week. I watched every second of every game in the richrod era. My dream is to one day move back to ann arbor and be able to attend every game. Right now HD TV is the best thing I have. I could go on and on about how I am the super super super fan but this thing would never end because I have story after story but I can prove all of what I have said, I'll bring the shoes, birth papers of my daughters, whatever. I live for Michigan football and I would fly up for this game and pay whatever airfare if chosen but either way this is outstanding you do this for people and I never responded before because like everyone else I would say give it Mott kids or other people more deserving but when you said super fan i could not hold back. Thank you and Go Blue!!!!

Let me first say that I would be thrilled if you chose a vet or someone from Motts.

But if you'd care to hear another unlikely Michigan fan story. I was very young when my older cousin tried to sell his authentic Michigan basketball shorts (Fab 5 era) on the rummage sale. I acquired them and fell in love. Once I got older and started watching Tom Brady, Brian Griese, Tishmunga, A Train, Woodson, I was hooked. You can't not get caught up in the tradition.

A pair of gold shorts sounds trivial when compared to the lucky people who live in Michigan, as part of Michigan families, and spent time in the Big House sharing games with Dad. But for me that pair of shorts was my only real connection to program because I grew up in the land of football desolation, South Dakota. No major program to cheer for so the people are divided into Iowa, Minnesota, and God help us Nebraska fans. It may not compare to the hostility of living in Ohio, but it is not a friendly area to Michigan fans. I even dated a girl from a Notre Dame/Nebraska family, which was nauseating.

My brother and I recently had the opportunity to cross something off our bucket list: attend a Michigan football game. We saw them at Minnesota, and although we were bummed to miss out on seeing Denard before his career is over, we couldn't have been more excited for the game. I have to say it was really surreal to see the uniforms in person, watch them warm up, and talk to OTHER MICHiGAN FANS for a change. Truly magical. I hope you can all remember fondly your first game experience.

Obviously the next logical step on the bucket list is to make a journey to the Big House for a game and No. 1 on the list of course is to see The Game.

That's my cool story, and I hope it didn't sound too pathetic to all you seasoned Michigan Men and Women. Good luck with the pick. Cheers and Go Blue.

I am 26 years of age, I have been a LIFE LONG MICHIGAN fan, and I am a high school football coach..which makes my love of football (and Michigan football) even more fanatical. When I was a kid I used to cry when Michigan lost, and when I mean used too...I mean I still do. I have been to several Michigan games, but I have never seen THE game (Michigan vs, Ohio). If I am lucky enough to receive consideration for the tickets I will do the following. I will invite a very good friend of mine who lives in Columbus and is a HUGE Ohio fan as a small symbol of respect and sportsmanship to our rival. I would rather see the tickets go to someone who has never had the privilege of enjoying a MICHIGAN football game in person ( Maybe a Michigan fan coming from a disadvantaged backround), but if you plan on giving the tickets to an avid MGOBLOGGER, I would love to throw my name into the fray. No matter who you decide to give your tickets too I think that this a noble and kind gesture.

I live in Pataskala which is 25 mins from the campus in Columbus. I was forced to move here by my wife and its the most awful place ever.
I actually emailed you a fairly long story last time you did this ([email protected]) and as much as I'd love to go... There a probably a hundred others that deserve to go more than myself.
To whoever gets selected if you have to travel here and are planning on staying the night in a hotel in the area and can't afford it you are welcome to stay at my place. Have a spare room with a queen sized bed you can have. Only requirement, you must like dogs. My wife and I have three and the two little ones will bark like crazy at you for a while.

Go Blue guys!

That rule about no kids highschool age drives me crazy. There is a difference between you 5* running back and the average high school kid.

Growing up in an Army family, you never really have a home. You just have places you've lived; a year in New York, two years in Maryland, 18 months in Virginia, etc. Despite the fact that I'd never lived there, my dad always told me that Michigan was home. He taught me through football.

I lived in Fort Lewis, Washington in 1997 and 1998. I remember being sent to my elementary school clad in maize and blue, sticking out like a sore thumb among a sea of Washington State t-shirts before the 1998 Rose Bowl. When people asked why I wasn't rooting the Cougers, I'd tell them that Michigan was my real home.

Instead of celebrating Christmas at home in 1998, I went to Disney World for a week. One day, my dad and I abandoned the rides (and my mom) for an afternoon and went to root on the Michigan players in the orange squeezing contest that preceded the 1999 Citrus Bowl. What kind of 10-year-old would rather watch Anthony Thomas and Steve Hutchinson squeeze oranges than eat cotton candy and explore Disney World? Only me, because the opportunity to actually see some Michigan football players - who always played thousands of miles away from me - was more exciting than meeting Mickey Mouse.

In 2001, my dad and I screamed together at the tiny television from our apartment in Ft. Meade, Maryland when the clock froze at 0:01 at the end of the Michigan State game.

When my dad retired, we finally moved to Michigan in time for me to start high school. I'd only ever visited the state, but thanks to Charles Woodson, Brian Griese, and Chris Perry, Michigan immediately felt like home. For the first time, I was surrounded by Wolverine fans. My dad and I went to the Big House once - both of our first times there - before the injuries he sustained in the military caught up with him and he became wheelchair-bound. I don't mean this to be a sob story, only to explain that my Michigan fandom goes beyond "OMG WOODSON!"; the Wolverines have framed my life thus far.

Despite this, I've never been to The Game and I've never had an opportunity to watch Denard play in person. I'd planned to drive south from Michigan to my new home in Virginia on the Sunday after The Game. I'd be more than happy to leave a day early and make a pit stop watch a historic game between Michigan and Ohio State.

I first fell in love with Michigan at the age of 13 when I attended Red Berenson’s hockey camp. Going to Yost was like visiting a holy site and staying in the dorms was just neat for a kid like me.  I remember still how cool of a guy Mike Knuble was as a counselor.

From there, it became my goal to go to college at UM, which I did in 1998 – where I had season tickets to both football and hockey all four years.  And actually went to all of the games since we lived on the south side of campus primarily for ease of going to sporting events.

Fast forward two years after graduating from Michigan and its time to decide on where to attend law school.  Unfortunately, after being wait listed by UM and ultimately not getting in, I was forced to go to that school down south.  Never shy about my love for Michigan, the first time I was called upon in lecture the case was coincidentally about something in Michigan, I noted that it was “The Great State of Michigan."

During and after law school, I coached a Columbus middle school hockey team and every year, I scheduled a weekend of games in Ann Arbor where we typically played the Ann Arbor Wolves and another Detroit bantam team to show the boys what a true university and a true hockey program were all about.  I'd give them a little tour of the campus and we'd eat at the original Cottage Inn.  Here’s a picture of us at Yost in 2008:

Since then, I met my wife, whose entire family are buckeye fans, but I represent and am actively trying to convert her to the good side.  It’s gonna happen.

I’ve also been fortunate enough to have football season tickets since 2009, which I’ve split with my two best friends who are also huge Michigan fans.  It's been a special way of staying touch over the years.  Here’s us at the NW game last weekend:

In support of the University, I am the VP of the local UM alumni association club.  Last year my wife and I organized the fist bi-annual “Taste of Ann Arbor” event benefiting the Sophomore Scholarship Fund.  Actually, a couple MGoBloggers attended it in 2011.  I also volunteer as an Alumni Student Recruiter for two local high schools.

Last year, when I started my own firm it was not even a question what my colors and branding would be.  So we use the University’s Identity Guidelines to have the exact same colors and font on all marketing materials.  The link to our website is in my signature.  What makes this so significant is that the firm is based in Columbus, and thus probably bad for business, but I have no qualms about my unabashed support for Michigan.  Also, our first employee is a Michigan grad, huge Michigan sports fan, and the person who I’d take to The Game if chosen.

I also recently applied for reciprocity from the Michigan Bar Association because we intend to open office in Ann Arbor, just to be closer to the university.

This spring, I woke up at 3:30 am to go to the hockey team’s equipment garage sale, where I had to buy the ability to buy a helmet from some other person.  Ultimately, I was able to get pretty much a full set of Michigan equipment, which I proudly wear on the ice here in Columbus.  I take some cheap shots and trash talk, but it’s more than worth it.  Here’s a pick:

Finally, despite living only 1.5 miles west of Ohio Stadium, the Michigan flag is flown every game day I'm in town.

Thank you again for your generosity and I plan on paying it forward like yourself next season.

Let me start with saying I have been a Michigan fan since the age of 5 when I first learned about football. My father's WHOLE family is from Columbus and they are all Ohio fans with the exception of one cousin who gave me an Amani Toomer jersey when I was 5 and I have been a die hard fan since. I may not be as deserving as some of these stories and my point may not be as "legit" but here it goes. I went to Ann Arbor for homecoming all the way from Tennesse where I live to see our guys. I went to the Western game last year that was my first game EVER and it got rained out. (coincidently it rained for the Illinois game as well) Here it goes. My fathers siblings with the exception of one are P.O.S's(there are 6 of them). They milk my grandmother of her money she earned from working until she was 65? and allow their children to do the same. She still works cleaning houses to maintain income. I hardly get to see her and she is coming to Nashville for Thanksgiving to see me and my parents. I get to see her once every two years if im lucky. We have never had real bonding time and although she is an Ohio fan, I would love to be able to go to a game with her before she passes. She is 73 and has a heart condition and has a pace maker that was put in around ten years ago that used to run at 10% but now runs at 100% from the stress. This makes me very nervous that her time is limited and if I could afford the tickets and gas to get there I would do it myself but my financial position is not capable of doing so. I could write all day about everything she has done for people her whole life and how this has restricted me being able to see her but I will keep it limited. I am 24 and I have lost every other grandparent besides her, I am actually getting pretty emotional writing this and putting it into perspective and while I may not be as deserving as some of the other people, I figured I would give it a shot. I could have been conventional and been an Ohio fan but I bleed Maize and Blue. I think being able to do this with my grandmother would be a monumental point in my life thus far. We have never been able to do anything like this together and would make both of our days and year!  My story is 100% legit and have way more details to it. Thank you for your generosity and consideration. As always GO BLUE!!

Email:[email protected] if considered.

I'd love to go and I'd be willing to fly from Lafayette, LA to go this game. I never been to the GAME and I've been saving the best for last. I went to the night game last year and the MSU game in 2010. Go blue and hope these senoirs are sent off with a win against Ohio!

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. With that in mind, here are a bunch of words. Pictures? Pictures:

Stormtrooper prototype, the early stages (November 2009)

There, that's better (UMass, 9/4/10)

With Grandpa at Indiana, 10/2/10

At Beaver Stadium, All Hallow's Eve, 2010

When a gracious MGoBlogger gives you free season tickets and Big Bird suits, you make McLimanade (February 2011)

Breakfast Club at Purdue, 10/6/2012

Preparing for Breakfast Club

As you can see from the 7,000-word essay above, we like costumes. We also like representing the university well at home and abroad. The two superfans in question are myself (Balrog_of_Morgoth) and a fellow MGoBlogger (TheGreatDantone). We are both life-long fans, and we both had the privilege of attending the university from 2007-2011 through good times and bad. We attended every game, home and away, our senior year (2010) and we would love to go back to Columbus to cheer our Men of Michigan on to victory (ev'ry man in ev'ry play) if you are kind enough to give us the chance.

I need this. I was born in Columbus, raised in Delaware, OH, and have spent my life thus far wishing nothing but more scandals for Ohio (YES) due to the insufferable fans in the Central Ohio area.

My mothers' parents are ND fans, as well as my Mom. IT HAS BEEN AWFUL 2012.
Grandfather ND grad.

Father's parents are DIE HARD BUCKNUTS. NOOOO. Still deny Tressel's full involvement in tatgate. This grandfather is an OSU grad and former All-Big Ten wrestler.

So why UM? Woodson,  John Cooper, Stanley Jackson, A-Train, for starters. When I was a kid, I was enthralled with the Michigan defense, hated John Cooper and the pressure from my family and friends to support a shitty/mediocre OSU team.

But mainly, it's was about the University's Academics and renowned reputation UM had, and OSU didn't.

My keyboard is faultering (literally), but to end shortly, I would love to see Denard live for the first time ever for his last game, and would be happy to go along with another MgoUser.

Maybe it was the winged helmet.

GO BLUE

There were so many great stories, and there is no single post that is materially deserving over another ... however, I did have to chose.

Even though the story was brief, the pictrures stole the show for me ... congratulations to Balrog_of_Morgoth and a fellow MGoBlogger TheGreatDantone!

I don't suggest wearing those get-ups at the Shoe, but you get credit for them all the same.

Please email me at [email protected] so we can arrange getting you the tickets and glove.  Please respond by tomorrow otherwise I will select another.
