You do sound like the morality police.  Unless you can show how its use has a direct effect on you, I dont understand why it would concern you so much.

Oh, and I mean direct effect.  Not "I read a news story about a guy that was riding a personal watercraft on a reservoir that borders Mexico and was shot by gang members who are financed by the sale of drugs, and it mad me really sad" type effect.  I mean, "Pot shot my mom, and made my dog think it could fly off of the Sears Tower" type effect.

...are making that much of a big deal about some marijuana?

Man, if you don't think many of our guys aren't doing the same, you are living in an alternate universe.

i know for a fact that some of our best players in the past (not going to name any names) have indulged in some mary jane. but what is in the past is in the past, and i do feel bad for the kid. he would most likely be starting for us right now.

despite all the protests and supposed studies and anecdotal stories, possessing marajuana is still illegal and dealing marijuana in siginificant amounts is still a felony in most states. I don't know, I still have this thing about obeying the law when it comes to controlled substances, and obeying police officers instructions potential arrest situations, and not taking illegally obtained steroids even though my sports league didn't SAY they were banned (just federal statutes)....

It's not us that has to set aside the "holier than thou" mentality, it's the law.  As long as it's illegal, it's irrelevant how many states have it on the ballot to legalize.

Call me out of touch because I'm over 40, but the law is the law and I don't want our football players getting pulled over with 8grams of weed.

You've never broken the law?  Never had a drink before you turned 21?  Never in college did you pull a prank that maybe went a little to far but your victim took it in stride?  Never sped while driving?  Going a certain amount over the speed limit is a felony, you know.

I get what you're saying.  The law is the law and it's pretty easy to obey it when it comes to controlled substances.  However, many, many people break these laws on a regular basis and I'd say most never see any legal consequences.  Kids under 21 drink, kids under 18 smoke, tons of perfectly good people smoke pot.  I wouldn't be too hard on a kid who runs afoul of one of these laws, but that's just me.
