Former Brandon crony takes shot at Brian at 12:30am

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

In case you aren't on twitter and missed this hilarious exchange, I thought I'd give a recap.

So, this guy. Brian was tweeting about the DB/Hoke era yesterday and some guy sent this tweet to him and then deleted it 15 seconds later.

Unfortunately for him, I screencapped it.

Brian quoted the tweet here mentioning the guy's profile

this guy's job is literally "Senior Manager of Brand Activation." https://t.co/OQVTbNAy5q

— mgoblog (@mgoblog) June 21, 2015

He works for the Phoenix Suns if you look at his twitter page.

After a quick google search, this guy not only works with Lochdawgg who is also with the Phoenix Suns, but he was a marketing guy at Michigan under Brandon.

Seems to me that Brandon's people knew alllllll about MGoBlog. So much so that they still think about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they had someone monitor the site.

Also: let's keep in mind that this guy tweeted Brian at 12:20am on a Saturday.

That right there tells you he was a Brandon guy. Must all have that instinct to blast off hottakes and press statements near 1am.

MGoTwitter reacts

A guy from the Lochdawgg tree tried to big-time @mgoblog on behalf of Dave Brandon after midnight on a Saturday. The internet is amazing.

@mgoblog Wait, did he already delete that tweet? That’s not brand activation of you ask me.

@mgoblog @ChrisJKaiser This might be the best thing that has ever happened on twitter.

@ChrisJKaiser @mgoblog quit drinking and go to bed

It is pretty amazing how DB and his cronies were able to take years of good will from alums and fans and flush it down the toilet. My Uncle is a Michigan alum who is a casual fan but would still donate to the athletic department every year. He is pretty easy going and it takes a lot to piss him off. Near the end even he was fed up with DB and would not donate until DB was canned.

Maybe it's just been my experience, but people involved in PR and marketting seem to have the worst knowledge of how social media works and how it can make you look like an idiot very easily.

In the grand scheme of things it's just a twitter fight between someone important to the discussion (Brian) and some tangentially-related guy interested in protecting his former boss and, I guess, his legacy.  But, I mean, this guy is the something something something for the Phoenix Suns while Biran, if Brandon is to believed, is someone living in his basement who doesn't mean a single thing to Michigan.  So it's hi-larious to see him try to talk smack late Saturday night.

Also, if I'm the Phoenix Suns, I probably don't want someone associated with my "brand" who is using a semi-professional twitter account to get into a fight with a guy online.

Two truths - both guys are passionate about Michigan and both guys are pretty big jerks. Since this is Cook's blog and most worship him please take a second and ask if it is ok to mock high schoolers ( especially guys who have decided to attend and play for Michigan's basketball team).

This site is monitored by the Athletic Dept as are many others. I can confirm it 100%. I was actually contacted by the Athletic Dept about some posts on MGoBlog 2 years ago. I exchaged a few emails with Seth and we actually deleted a thread because of it.

Brandon did a lot of things as AD that I thought were, to put it mildly, ill advised.

Despite the venom here he also did a lot of good for the University of Michigan. He served as a regent. He's donated $4 million. He upgraded lots of infrastructure and won the support of the student athletes who attended the University during his tenure.

In my opinion everyone is better off with his depatrture, but it's time to set the tar and ptichforks aside and let this crap go.

Whether you like it or not, he is an alum, he played football for Bo and while he didn't see the field much he was repscted by his teammates and contributed heavily to helping young players. How many of us can say that?

He made a bunch of UGLY mistakes, some of which were way to visible. But misguided is not evil. Do any of you honestly believe he cares less for the University of Michigan than you?

In the context of MGoBLog vs Brandon, MGoBlog won. Move on and let it go, and when someone shoots back shrug it off.

This is pathetic, even for "WD" standards. Especially for a guy who claims to have matured so much over the past few months. Log off your computer for one day.

Quit tweeting and go to bed.

I'm facepalming almost as hard as "WD" would when he looks back at this post in five years.

1. Brian should let it go. Brandon is gone and everyone else, save Brian, just wants to move on. Baiting people on twitter about Brandon is tired and self-serving, and on this lone point I agree with Kaiser - Brian should let it go.

2. But Kaiser's "he wins" is douchy, and not accurate according to most fans' definition of what it means to win in this context.

3. WD's inclusion of his own tweet, and the tweets of other Brian-fans, is immature and should be below the standards around here. Twitter reactions of journalists and other professionals is one thing, reactions of other dudes living in thier mother's basements is another.

4. If WD wants to some day work in the big leagues with professionals regarding Michigan sports, he should be careful what he does on tiwtter. It's bush league to insert one's self in these twitter wars that the big boys are engaging in. It doesnt matter which side you are one - if someone is thinking of hiring WD and finds that he has a habit of insulting professionals in public, well, its not a favorable characteristic of a job candidate.

I didn't see something mentioned about this that WD apparently missed.  12:30 MI time is really 9:30 AZ time.  This is why people get fired from jobs for stupid shit they do on social media.  Think before you post. Re-read before you post.  If you think you're one-upping someone, you're likely doing something stupid.  WD has a long way to go.
