But why should Tate be worried? Shouldn't he just be confident in his own ability, and worry about putting himself in a position where Paulus cannot be looked at as the better option? I would welcome another body at QB purely for the depth that it would bring. Rich Rod consistently says they would like 2-3 players at each position he could win with. This might help move us in that direction.

Tate doesn't go all Jay Cutler on Rich Rod because of this. You know, stop going to class, workouts, and eventually demanding to transfer to Ohio State. That would make a few headlines.

I really have no idea what the hell is going on now. If it were a perfect world for me I wouldn't want Paulus around here. I'm confident in Tate, I think Denard is a decent option, and Sheridan has improved from last year by understanding the offense more. I like that Paulus would come in and help with depth and competition, but I don't think that it is a beneficial long run option for numerous reasons. Call me crazy, but I like where we are at the QB position. Yes, they are young and inexperienced, but what does Paulus do to improve that? I'd rather play a guy that will be here for 4-5 years than a guy who will be here for 1. I'd feel much better in 2010 with an experienced Forcier or Robinson, than a red-shirt or backup Forcier or Robinson. Not saying Paulus would start, but I want TF and DR to get all the game reps.

so that was weird. really enjoyed the tate stream-of-consciousness bit. can't say that i care much for all of the "i don't think my coaches were lying to me, but maybe they did" talk. i hope he keeps his head in the game.

I should say, though, that I hope the coaching staff didn't lie to Tate about this. Just more bad PR for Rich Rod and the program if that is, indeed, the case and it would add more fuel to the negative recruiting fire.

I'm not worried, do I look worried, why should I worry, it's impossible so I'm not worried, don't worry he's not coming here, so I'm not worried. If I say please don't fire up the Tate to transfer rumors. Does that unofficially start the Tate to transfer rumor?

This, my friends, is why you don't get into this situation to begin with. Edit - Don't get me wrong, I like Rod's openness and most of what he brings to the table with the program, BUT I feel like he needs some media training. Don't let Paulus come see a practice unless you have a story for why its happening later and you can explain to everyone what is going on. Obviously, the media is going to pick it up. If you didn't offer him, then call up ESPN, or whoever, and tell them you didn't offer him. It's pretty simple. Now there's going to be a whole lot of speculation about who is lying, blah blah.

I don't see how the coaching staff could be flat out lying to Forcier in this situation. People don't usually lie when it will become 100% clear that they were lying in short order. There's some miscommunication going on somewhere... whether it's the timing of the interview with Paulus being offered or something of that nature, I don't know.

The problem with this situation does not have to do with playing time or reps or timing of the situation, it has do with the player-coach relationships. The problem is with the drama that could unfold with this situation and the feelings that could be hurt. That might sound pretty weak, but we are talking about delicate minds of 18 year-olds. It's one thing to bring in qb prospects into a program to compete (robinson, former recruits Beaver and Newsome) as well as current qbs such as Sheridan. I just see this move as unconventional and could lead to some unanticipated issues within the team. I just don't see how we can really gain from this at all. I think there will be enough competition come fall with Forcier, Robinson, Sheridan, Cone, Furrha and possibly older Forcier(s). I just have a bad feeling about this.

i dont see why it matters that much. we shouldnt worry cause if he comes, then great, more competition and depth at a position of need. forcier shouldnt worry cause he has already gone through spring practice and winter workouts. he knows the offense and his teamates better. he is considered the number one qb going into the summer and the starting job is basically his to lose. if he loses it to either robinson or to paulus, if he decides to play for us or not, that it is his own damn fault.

This reminds me from the scene in Miracle when coach Herb Brooks brings in his great Minnesota player right before the olympics just to see how the team reacts and the captains told him that he is not part of the team. I feel like we need that to happen with the leaders of our football team right now!

Reading that "article" has me really doubting its validity. I'd hope that Forcier wouldn't give a phone or other interview to some knob from the Daily regarding something of this nature and then wax on about the coaching staff's fidelity. It just doesn't add up. However, if I'm wrong and this is true then I'm highly concerned about Tate's frame of mind. The coaches sowing the seeds of doubt about the their honesty does not bode well for the development of good player-staff relationships. ION, ESPN has a frickin' poll up on the college football page about who would start should Paulus end up at Michigan. Paulus leads Forcier 40% to 35%. Go give Tate a boost. (a little ways down on the left sidebar)

Tate has performed well, and if a guy can come in after not playing in 4.5 years and never having played college football and beat him then he needs a redshirt anyway. Contrast how RR talked about the QB's last year versus this year to get a sense of what he thinks. Tate is the front runner right now. RR has always said that he wants comepetition at every position. Tate should be far more worried about Denard Robinson who is in his class, or Nick Sheridan who has a year of experience on him that Paulus. But in short, I strongly doubt that Tate is worried about anything other than learning the rest of the playbook, finishing his finals and getting better so that he can start next Sept 5.

How is this any different than Rodriguez offering Blake Sims, Devin Gardner, Robert Bolden, etc.? Unless he told Tate "You are going to be our starter" then Rodriguez SHOULD be looking for as many options as he can. When this fall comes, we will have exactly TWO quarterbacks on the roster who were deserving of FBS scholarships. Like someone said above, if Tate gets beaten out by a guy who's been away from the game for 4.5 years, then he needs a redshirt year, anyway.

Paulus said he has an opportunity to play at Michigan. This doesn't mean he was offered a scholarship. Any one of us (assuming we haven't played college football before) has the *opportunity* to play QB for Michigan, assuming we're really good, have good enough grades, etc...I think we'll end up seeing that he was misrepresenting the situation, intentionally or unintentionally.

I don't care if Tate Forcier develops clinical depression over this, because you can never tolerate childish behavior. Competition is a fact of life. These types of unexpected outcomes happen. You have to rise above them and you'll be stronger. The longer you whine about the situation, the worse you're going to be. I am 100% set here. In order to have a winning tradition, everyone has to be held accountable. There should be no guarantees on any level. That was a problem with the old guard. It is a problem the country is dealing with generally. To get stronger on both counts, everyone must be held accountable. No undeserved breaks for anyone. The world is fierce, but competition makes us stronger. Everyone has to realize that, even a 18 year old kid. Michigan football is greater than Tate Forcier. We will get over Tate Forcier if he continues to act childishly at the thought of competing against a guy who hasn't thrown a pass in 4 years and would only be here 1 year anyways. How ridiculous is that? A message has to be sent, loud and clear, to Tate, DRob, the rest of the team and anyone else who wants to play here. YOU CAN'T BE AFRAID OF COMPETITION.

You seriously need to chill the fuck out. You hate Greg Paulus? Why? Do you know him? Did he hurt you in some way? He is a good athlete and our coach is showing interest in him. If you want him away from the team, get pissed at RichRod. I wouldn't give a shit if you hated me or not, but if RR wanted me to play football for him I'd do it. I think you're pissed at the wrong guy.
