Football Scoop reporting Meyer out by end of 2019
Whoa if true.
Have a link: http://footballscoop.com/news/source-ohio-state-expects-retain-ryan-day-oh-urban/
November 30th, 2018 at 12:59 PM ^
You have to feel sorry for Ohio State. Nothing ever seems to go their way.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
Exactly.
Headline from the future: "Nick Saban accepts 'dream job,' announces plan to retire as coach of Buckeyes."
November 30th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
Before The Game he was out after this year...
Maybe he's going to wait to see how Tate Martell turns out. If the returns are good he comes back 2020.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
Nah, he just said he's coming back to retain the recruiting class. Then he'll have "a change of heart" two days after signing day and decide to retire.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:39 PM ^
This was my immediate thought as well.
November 30th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
exactly....someone send this link to Harrison
November 30th, 2018 at 1:24 PM ^
FootballScoops is also the website that reported Bob Stoops was a candidate for the Auburn job...
November 30th, 2018 at 1:01 PM ^
Was hoping he was out by end of THIS season, not next.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
No way, I'd like at least one more shot to beat him. I'd hate to keep hearing the narrative that Michigan never beat Urban Meyer. Not that 1-7 vs Urbs is much better, but still.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
The narrative will then be that it was because "he was on his way out and lost focus". Just like they were setting it up to be because of his health this year...
November 30th, 2018 at 1:49 PM ^
I don't care what the reason is, but I want to beat him. I want Harbaugh to beat him. If Shea comes back, next year will be our best shot at beating OSU since 2011.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:02 PM ^
If Shea comes back, next year will be our best shot at beating OSU since 2011
Just wondering, how's that?
Michigan loses its three best defensive players, a 1,000 yard back, and Dylan McCaffrey is better anyway.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:33 PM ^
Dylan McCaffrey is better anyway.
You have zero basis to make that statement. Shea Patterson had statistically the best season of any Michigan QB of the past 30 years, but you want to replace him with a guy who's thrown 15 passes and taken no meaningful snaps thusfar?
Jesus, some posters on this board.
November 30th, 2018 at 3:05 PM ^
I take your point, but he did take a few meaningful snaps against Notre Dame and look pretty solid.
November 30th, 2018 at 3:30 PM ^
The 2nd string QB is always better than the first string QB
Been a tradition at Michigan for years.
November 30th, 2018 at 3:54 PM ^
....and for most every other team in every sport!
November 30th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
You’re the type of guy to give Jeremy Lin 15 million a year for a few games in which he played out of his mind. Cool.
DMac is going to be really good, but this next guy is better bc he threw ten good passes shit is cliche as throwing people under the bus.
Patience is a virtue that most need to learn.
November 30th, 2018 at 10:57 PM ^
You have zero basis to make that statement.
Two words:
Arm. Strength.
Go watch the tOSU tape again.
Jesus, some posters on this board.
Indeed!
December 3rd, 2018 at 12:43 PM ^
Go watch the Wisconsin tape again, or the MSU tape again, or the Penn State tape again, or the comeback against Northwestern. Michigan scored 39 points against OSU; I'll grant you that Shea didn't have his best game, but he is not the reason we lost.
Arm strength? You've got to be kidding.
November 30th, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
Oh Shirley, your not serious are you?
November 30th, 2018 at 1:22 PM ^
Unfortunately, I don't like our chances next year with Haskins returning for them, and us losing several key pieces from our defense. But hey, who knows.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:25 PM ^
Haskins returning? Did I miss something? Last I heard he was planning to enter the draft...
November 30th, 2018 at 5:09 PM ^
Haskins is a top 3 Qb going into the draft this year. He would be crazy not to enter.
November 30th, 2018 at 6:17 PM ^
Who is Haskins NFL comp? Just trying to get some others' thoughts.
November 30th, 2018 at 8:34 PM ^
He has a Dree Brees feel to his game. Obviously Drew Brees is a hall of fame QB, so I’m not saying he’s anywhere near his level. But similar style of play.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:07 PM ^
Haskins should be gone this year. I am not sure how much higher his stock can go and the conventional wisdom is that this year’s QB draft class is much weaker than next**.
.
.
.
**Not applicable for QBs playing for teams with a Murderwolf mascot (if you are reading this Shea).
November 30th, 2018 at 1:44 PM ^
Michigan has beaten him, though not when he's been at OSU.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:38 PM ^
Bullshit, we beat them in 2016.
JT was short!!!
November 30th, 2018 at 2:52 PM ^
That too.
November 30th, 2018 at 3:21 PM ^
That's what she said.
November 30th, 2018 at 5:03 PM ^
I mean... if we’re going to get technical here Michigan HAS beaten Urban Meyer. We beat his Florida team in Carr’s last season
November 30th, 2018 at 6:44 PM ^
Beat me to it. We spanked Urban and the Tebow Messiah
November 30th, 2018 at 7:04 PM ^
Michigan already has beaten Urban Meyer.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:04 PM ^
Hahaha - yeah sure - they've been swallowing the poison all year from the obvious sham investigation and just killed Michigan as a vindication, and now he'll leave next year?
I won't even click on the click bait.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:14 PM ^
That report just doesn't make any sense. If Meyer has any health concerns that are actually affecting his coaching, why would he wait another year to step down? It's either this season or it wont be for a long time.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:25 PM ^
Its peak recruiting season, man. Read between the lines.
November 30th, 2018 at 2:06 PM ^
On top of that, and without clicking, isn’t Day their supposed next HC? If so, what’s the difference between now and 2020? RECRUITING!
November 30th, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
Day is the whole crux of the story, Urban is a side note. The news they are reporting is that Day is going to get a fat raise to be coach in waiting, and that's why he's not in the mix for any of these openings around CFB.
November 30th, 2018 at 5:44 PM ^
He probably steps down the day after NSD.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:05 PM ^
Breaking the news that someone might quit their job within the next year is some joke reporting. They have no idea what's going to happen in the next year.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:11 PM ^
Football Scoop is also the website that "reported" Harbaugh is never coming to Michigan. They are not ChatSports bad, but they don't report, they throw up wild guesses on their website and pretend to have inside knowledge if it turns out to be true.
In other news, I can confidently report that Harbaugh will be out by 2040.
November 30th, 2018 at 3:25 PM ^
I remember that now that you mention it. This is definitely a source that should be banned from the board, and it's been in two different threads over the last day.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:12 PM ^
FWIW, it may be joke reporting but Meyer did announce that he will address his coaching future after the BTCG.
Could mean anything or he may very well announce he’s stepping down after 2019. Who knows. Fuck him either way.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:05 PM ^
I found it interesting how his headaches miraculously went away last Saturday. And he has already announced that he’s coming back next year. I will believe he is out when I see it.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:09 PM ^
You could see them going away as the blowout took shape. Urban is scum.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:18 PM ^
I'm not trying to get my hopes up but he didn't actually make a formal announcement. He was pestered by reporters and finally said "I plan to be back next year." That's as non committal as you will ever get. If he's really planning to retire and Day is going to take over, he can wait until signing day to announce it if he wants to.
November 30th, 2018 at 1:41 PM ^
He didn't even say "plan to be back" he said he "plans to coach."
November 30th, 2018 at 2:02 PM ^
That doesn't really change my point but thanks for the clarification
November 30th, 2018 at 2:10 PM ^
It strengthens your point.
