Flowers Update

Submitted by mgorecruit on

I guess you can chalk this up as a win for MGoBlog; but its not necessarily good news for Michigan.

Earlier today there was a bit of a dispute as TomVH told us things weren't looking good for Hakeem Flowers, whilst the guys at scout.com were very hopeful on UM's chances.

Well it now appears Michigan has stopped recruiting Flowers; I guess Hoke doesn't think they need a receiver in this class. Either that or he's got someone else lined up.

Anyway, for the guy who asked whether he should buy a rivals or scout account on the board earlier, I hope this answers your question.

I think this coaching staff has seen this team, seen their film and has made a conscious decision to say we need TE's, DB's, LB's, DL, OL and RB.  They apparently aren't convinced we need a QB and don't believe we need WR's.  Looking at the depth chart and the two deep, I'm not sure I get it but I will trust their opinion.  I have a feeling some of the DB's may become WR's because otherwise I am as befuddled as the next guy.

Anyway withdrawing his schollie probably means we may fill or come close with our class.  Looking at the star ratings of the remaining recruits this seems like a good thing to me.

To be fair to GBW they posted that Michigan dropped Flowers 90 minutes before you posted this and were only calling Flowers a silent (like TomVH hinted at) until he "liked" someone posting a block M on his FB page.  They generally have things well before Rivals (although TomVH is often just as fast), especially during the RR era (ever wonder why Spaz and Balless hated RR?).  I can't wait till TheWolverine moves off of Rivals so I can subscribe to the Rivals U of M site again, they suck.

I think the order of importance right now would be:

(1) OG - Chirs Bryant, (2) OG Fisher or Aundrey Walker, (3) TE Clark or Barnett, (4) DT Cooper or Alexander and (5)  a nameless faceless QB for dpeth (6) Keeping Blake Countess from Joepa or getting Stefan McClure (7) LB - Leilon Willingham or Antonio Poole.

I agree with Hoke.  No room.  Anyway, I think Greg Browncan play WR if we get 14 injuries and I don't think we want Desmond Morgan as our #3 QB. or #4 QB.

Looking back I may be high for the TE but I am not retyping.

If the coaches feel that we're set at wide receiver and that we don't need to spend time or resources recruiting another one, how is that not good news?

I think we need at least one WR in this class because of the talent we lose. But, as others have stated, we have a lot of people in that position, albeit young and still unproven. Moving on.

Ever think Gardner goes to WR, who many scouts have said he is better suited for ?  Or even Gordon, who to me was absolutely horrendous at safety?   This might explain the current recruting pattern of so many DBs, too.

Since a "Wincey Courtbooth" never existed I will assume this name as my own.

An extensive internet search shows that this name only shows up on the same list posted below.  Some evil genius probably inserted this on the 2007 Michigan Football Wikipedia page and it just keeps getting copied and pasted to other pages (because you know, Wikipedia is never wrong).

to be fair Beaver said the same at ~10:30PM last night.

Also, IMO, Scout/ Rivals were helpful in the coaching search, as they claimed to know "inside" information for what really happened. Of course this could be BS, but at least it's something.

For recruiting and general M sports news, MGoBlog is as good to better than Scout or Rivals.
