Five To Go - Basketball Snowflakes

Not the prettiest win ever but it's still a win. Five more left!

This was the game many talked about on the blog - the game in which we're pushed out of our offense, but now have the defense to stay in and, clearly, win.

Now let's replicate the run (+2 more) after the last ugly game against Iowa.

silver lining is that this will help us prepare against Man Bun, and Houston plays about one third of the defense Montana does.

Hideous game but I'll take it. Matthews turned it over a bunch in forgoing the role player tag but carried us when everyone else was off. Simmons was a liability on D as usual but scored 6 points. Eli Brooks hit a floater! The game started 0-10 and we won without much threat of actually losing. The long break and jittery first round are behind us. You gotta believe Wagner will ball Saturday.

It seems whenever he takes more than one dribble, there is a 50/50 shot of a turnover. He does really well to get low to the ground when attacking the paint, which is great. He always seems to turn the corner and (if the ball doesn't get raked out) he elevates really well. The problem is the lower he gets to the ground, the farther his dribble gets from his body. The ball is really accessible to defenders because Matthews is scared of dribbling off his own foot. The other big thing with Matthews is he strongly prefers leaping off of two feet. If he were more willing and comfortable elevating off of one foot, he could pick up his dribble sooner, use those great long strides to get across the paint, and still finish strong while doing a better job protecting the ball. I don't expect him to stop turning the ball over this season, but I look forward to him developing his handle in the future, and learning when it's appropriate to pick up the dribble (high and tight!) and glide for two steps to his spot.

ugly game.  Started out slow in Big 10 tourney too.  By the time Michigan plays Saturday, they will be one of less than 30 teams with a chance to go al the way.  Bet they are ready to play Saturday.

This game was the predictable byproduct of a commissioner who values playing at MSG over how his conferences team does in the tournament. Nothing more....Nothing less.

What an absolutely pathetic performance.

Reminded me of the Maryland and Minnesota games.

No urgency.  I can't fathom what Wagner was thinking.

Rahmann? Wow...

Thank god Charles Matthews decided to show up.

Just awful.

Wow, are you depressing. Holding a tournament team to 19 points in a half and 32% shooting and winning by 14 after being down 10 within the first 5 minutes?

May as well go back to the NIT. Would that satisfy you?

Aesthetically unpleasing dub but I'll take any win in the tourney, particularly one without a stressful ending. Holding an opponent to 47 is pretty cool, too.

Their defense was so active--it really seemed to throw off our offense off. But I wonder if it also led to Montana being fatigued I n the second half. Their shooting took a nose-dive.
