Ferrigno will not return as TEs coach; Marrow offered
So @TomLoy247 tells me Dan Ferrigno will not return as Michigan's tight end coach.
— Dan Murphy (@DanMurphyESPN) January 3, 2015
Vince Marrow, come on up.
He was also the special teams coordinator. Wonder if HARBAUGH will hire someone for that. Hopefully, because the special teams have been lacking for quite some time here in terms of return game threats. Lord knows we have the speed to run them back.
Michigan's hasn't returned a punt for a TD since Odoms did at Purdue in 2008. Haven't returned a kickoff for a TD since Stonum vs ND in 2009. Michigan has only returned a kickoff for a TD twice in the 21st century.

As long as he's not calling plays

I've heard over and over by every board member that Harbaugh will be calling plays, but wonder where this comes from. Has Harbaugh said that he was calling plays? Is it because we can't imagine an OL coach actually being a good OC?
My question for the staff or anyone who knows is: Who was the playcaller under Harbaugh at San Diego. The offense was great and Drevno was the OC. A USC blog (I know it's not a reliable source) claimed Drevno was the actual playcaller as well. If he was indeed the playcaller then why can we not believe that he may be the playcaller here. I would definately enjoy having a similar offense.

Some people have brought up good reasons as to why he may not come to Michigan. You bring... nothing? Yeah. Pretty much. Just a complaint about beaten down fans in a rude comment and completely ignore all the information that others bring.
Why do you think he's going to go from coaching with his boyhood friend with whom he is doing a good job to go to another school at a similar pay with the same responsibilities and without one of his best friends? Please, enlighten us.

This guys has a chance to coach for Harbaugh at Michigan. He currently coaches for Kentucky.
It would take one hell of a unique dude to turn us down. Maybe he will but it's highly improbable.

I don't konw that I agree that it would take a unique guy to turn down Harbaugh. No doubt Harbaugh's a great coach and has shown more in less years as a coach than has Stoops, but I don't know that it would be that hard to say "No thanks, I'm living a dream coaching with my best friend." If that's the case at least. Hopefully Marrow decides he needs to work with the Harbaugh for a few years.

If he were such a slam dunk to come, I would think the report would have been that he was hired, not merely that he had been offered. What? He has to ask his wife and family or something??
January 3rd, 2015 at 9:27 AM ^
Stoops and Marrow, both from Youngstown, Ohio, knew each other as children before playing football together at Cardinal Mooney High School. Can't imagine why he'd leave a childhood friend. Heck, why would Harbaugh leave the NFL for some college gig?

If its about $$ then there is no way he's coming...you don't get into a bidding war over a TE Coach bec. any reasonable offer can be matched. He'll need to be sold on the opportunity (look at JH's coaching tree in both college and Pros...man has some connections) but, if he's close to Stoops, that might not even be enough.

The greatest recruiting staff ever assembled if we get Marrow. It's pretty close without him.

He's credited with pulling a lot of players just below the OSU/UM level from Ohio to Kentucky, beating out teams like MSU and the rest of the B1G for some very solid Ohio prospects which is impressive considering he recruits for Kentucky.

I understand Marrow is a great recruiter, but how have his players performed under his tutelage? I figure that a good tight end coaching hire is going to be pretty important under Harbaugh's offense beyond just recruiting.
January 3rd, 2015 at 2:47 AM ^
Kentucky's TE unit this year had 7 catches for 64 yards split between two senior tight ends.
Also to note though that Drevno has considerable experience with tight ends as well. If Marrow is hired that would mean Drevno is going to be the OL coach, and OL coaches work heavily with TE's in practice, where Drevno would likely be coaching them as well.

Harbaugh has been in the job for four days and people are already questioning his decisions.
Marrow has 22 years of experience at TE, as a player and a coach. Harbaugh knows what he is doing.

norfleet is a solid player. I wouldn't consider him overrated in the least bit. maybe over discussed on this site as a whole, but in the real world he is a plus player who can captivate witha dance as much as a return...
