favorite moments of the Hoke Era
The Brady Hoke Era has come to an end at the University of Michigan. It is a shame that a man with such great character like Brady Hoke couldn't succeed here. However, I always like to remember the good times.
My question to my fellow mgobloggers
What were your favorite memories of the Hoke Era?
Mine is a tie between the 2011 Ohio State Game and the 2012 Northwestern game.

You're a bad person and you should feel bad.

Sadly, my favorite moment was the day David Brandon was fired. Other than that, 2011 and Denard supplied numerous "favorite moments." Unfortunately, they are all a "blur" to me now, due to the continued underachievement around the program.

Upvoted on general principle.

The Sugar Bowl win/OSU.
Seemed like everything was headed in the right direction...

I took my wife to her 1st game in New Orleans. We had great time and it was a win. I thought things were back to normal. I was living in a fools paradise.

If your comment was read in the context of your marriage rather than the football team, it would be a great opening to a rather sad memior.

UTL I, with Ohio State and Nebraska from that season being 2 and 3. Nebraska because I thought "wow we're good again!"
UTL II would've been higher had we actually ended up being good because that game made me think "yea baby we're back."

Ahhh...UTLII. "The Chicken Dance" Game. And who can forget Chesson's block?
December 3rd, 2014 at 7:59 AM ^
It's amazing what a fork in the road, or better yet, mirage, that game was. I still had some lingering doubt after the collapses against Ohio State and South Carolina and the ugly lack of preparedness for Denard's injury at Nebraska the previous year, but for a hot minute it was hard not to believe, "2011 was the truth! Last year was some sophomore jinx growing pains. But now we've throttled a team we should have to start the season (something that couldn't be taken for granted with Rodriguez or even Carr), and this performance against the Irish looks so complete - OK, except one little thing, yikes, but - dare I say Michigan is back???"
Absolutely no sign whatsoever that the slow slide into the abyss was going to start next week. Akron is going to be lucky to not lose by 70, baby...

11-26-2011.
Got that date tattooed on me. My first win over OSU that I can fully remember as I barely remember the 2003 game since I was very young.
That whole 2011 season was a blast. I remember not being able to sleep after that Sugar Bowl win. I was up until 4am.

I remember bits and pieces from The Game 2003 but that's about it.

I feel bad (along with anyone else that isn't at least an 80's baby). Regarding UM Football, you've never witnessed it at a point in life of truly enjoying it. I may slightly envy such youth (I'm 30) but not regarding UM Football. I've seen wonderful days and basked in them. I cried both after the hail mary AND winning a national title for different reasons. I've known the feeling of "we got this" versus......literally anyone. I feel so bad for the young UM faithful but maybe ignorance (in the literal sense) is bliss? Even the 4 loss 90s teams could hang with anyone on an above average day. I miss it but you've never felt it! That's crazy to me.

that you finally got over that hump and won.

We were up long past 4 AM out on Bourbon street after the game. Great memory.

Who by the way was Frickin awesome today....in a year or two when we are in the playoff....no one will deny it was Hoke who brought us those kids....kept them here...and taught them what a Michigan man is....we will look back and credit him for that....making Jim Harbaugh ' s job that much easier!
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:53 AM ^
"no one will deny it was Hoke who brought us those kids"
Just like no one denied it was RichRod that brought us the kids that won us a Sugar Bowl in the 2011 season. Oh...right.
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:24 AM ^
Some of those were Lloyd's recruits also, the 5th year seniors if I remember correctly. Some of the 4th year guys were probably also recruited by Lloyd since a majority of that recruiting cycle was his last season. No one ever mentions that though, especially the RichRod sympathizers.

LC always gets credit for Molk, RVB and Woolfolk.

Jim Harbaugh is not leaving the NFL without Super Bowl rings, and it's just sad that anyone thinks otherwise.
December 3rd, 2014 at 9:35 AM ^
Well he sure as hell isn't getting them with the Jets or Raiders, so he's got a decision on his hands. At least going to Michigan would be under his control

Nebraska 2011. First game I ever attended, we looked great that game, and the beat Ohio chant was awesome. Honorable mention for UTL I, which I'm still pretty sure took a few years off my life expectancy.
December 3rd, 2014 at 10:24 AM ^
Nebraska '11 is #3 behind only UTL1 and Ohio '11. My entry to the game was delayed by excessive drinking that seemed completely necessary at the time. Walking on the tracks from our tailgate, my brother and I had an "I love you, man" conversation. I found my seat when Hemingway (?) caught an arm-punt after pushing off. I was laugh-crying. The whole scene was very 2011.

The day he pulled in Jabrill Peppers. I still believe he will be the best Michigan db since Mr. Woodson

I'll say this, there hasn't been a shortage of entertaining games, even some of the ones we came out on the wrong end of, or shouldn't have been close. A lot of nail biters, come backs, unlikely turn of events, etc for 4 seasons.

the weekend in February that 6 players committed.

Taco, JD, Wyatt, Butt, LTT, Bosch, and Fox. Quite the weekend indeed.

Dawson?
December 3rd, 2014 at 10:23 AM ^
I keep forgetting that Dawson was committed before he decommitted and then recommitted. His initial commitment came at the same time as JD, they committed together in Coach Hoke's office if I recall correctly.

I think Wyatt could be pretty Damn good if we get Harbaugh. seems like he's type of player

What a great weekend -- don't forget we also beat OSU at Crisler that Saturday.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:55 AM ^
Definitely beating Ohio State in 2011, the first UTL is a close second, though. And if we're talking about our favorite 'moments,' then I might include his initial presser. I was ready to run through a wall when he started pounding the podium.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:55 AM ^
The highlights would have to be:
Notre Dame 2011 (UTL I)
Nebraska 2011
OSU 2011
2012 Sugar Bowl
MSU 2012 (not pretty but hey, it was a win over Sparty)
Notre Dame 2013 (UTL II)
Northwestern 2014 (if only for absurdist comedy)
-----
These seven games should pretty much cover it.
December 3rd, 2014 at 10:27 AM ^
MSU 2012 was ugly? No such thing. Son, there's a reason they're called "slumpbusters."
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:00 PM ^
I always thought that was a cool game. An old-school defensive struggle. I didn't feel like it was marked by offensive ineptitude like 2014 Northwestern, but good defensive play on both sides and just a little timely offense.
December 3rd, 2014 at 5:16 PM ^
I completely agree. I love games that appear ugly at times, with one team managing to string together just enough plays to make a difference in the late minutes. There was hard hitting, Dileo talking shit and Denard finally getting his win against the third rival.

No Doubt on this one! Going to THE GAME in 2011. Standing at mid-field and chanting "It's Great to be a Michigan Wolverine!" Hoke brought us back!

that was as much Fickell as it was Hoke.

Beating Ohio State 2011, UTL 2013 (from what I can actually remember from that game), Nebraska 2013. Hoke seems like a good man and deserves a shot somewhere else. He did represent this great university with class.

Also, not gonna lie, I was seriously entertained with M00N.
Michigan winning made that game a blast. If they hadn't though.....yeah, no.
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:23 AM ^
Favorite moment, ND(UTL1) and OSU of 2011 and 2012 Sugar Bowl, but what stands out the most in my mind is without a doubt.... M00N. I'll never forget M00N. We'll never escape M00N. It will always be there, looking down on....
