The date for this may have already been known, but an official press release on the annual Fan Day was posted today at mgoblue.com:

July 22, 2011

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football program will hold its annual Fan Day on Sunday, Aug. 14, at Michigan Stadium. The autograph session and opportunity to meet the 2011 Wolverines team will run from approximately 2-3:30 p.m. EDT.

The event is free and open to the public. All gates at the Big House will open starting at 1 p.m. Parking will be available in the lots adjacent to Michigan Stadium and Pioneer High School. In order to expedite the autograph process and accommodate as many fans as possible, players and head coach Brady Hoke will autograph one item per person.

Hoke will sign autographs on the Michigan Stadium field. Michigan players will be signing autographs along the north and south concourses at the concession stands by position groups. The offensive players will be located along the north side of the Big House between sections 29 and 38, with the defensive players residing on the south side between sections 8 and 18.

Check MGoBlue.com for player autograph locations which will be determined at a later date.

I've never been to a fan day - is it worth it? I'd imagine the lines are pretty long for guys like Denard and Hoke, but how long are those lines?

I went when I was younger (elementary age) and I thought it was pretty awesome. I didn't wait in any long lines, I just enjoyed seeing those big-name players up close, getting pictures taken with some of the lower profile players (especially if there was someone who shared my last name) and playing catch on the field.

Very long lines, but worth it if you don't mind getting there early and waiting. In my experience you can get through one of the big lines (QB, WR, RB, or Hoke) and probably two of the smaller ones like O-line, defensive positions, special teams. This is assumming you get there before the gates open. QB line will be unbelievably long this year, and I'm sure Hoke's will be pretty long too.

Last year they split the QB's into two lines, and didn't tell you who was in which line. Hopefully they don't do that again or one line will be really pissed (no hate on Gardner, just all the demand is for Denard).

Also, take something to get signed. They sometimes have posters, but I'd take photos, a helmet, something else just in case.

Long lines, but worth it. Bring a camera and take pics if you don't want to wait in lines. I got pics of most players, but not autographs. Kids took pics and had autographs from most groups but QB's RB's and WR's. Had fun on the field as well.

Gates open at 1, the signing starts at 2. Last year I waited in line outside the gates for at least an hour, but once they opened it up, the people behind us just rushed the gate, so I guess it doesn't really matter too much if you are really early. I'd still get there before the gates open, and once they open you have to hurry to the line you want to get to.

You can hand your item to someone in another line if you are lucky to have someone willing to do it for you, but I wouldn't cut the line. It happens but it really isn't fair to the others.
