ESPN Open Thread: Heisman Trophy followed by 30 for 30 "You Don't Know Bo"

Submitted by M-Wolverine on
Who's going to win? The freshman or the defensive player? Followed by a guy who could probably do both, the greatest Tecmo Bowl player of all time, Bo Jackson. Be interested to see what those too young to remember him think of this show. (Bo on again at midnight on the Deuce if you came to this thread later)

Well you don't see Johnny Manziel in a damn ten gallon hat.  Maybe he should be wearing one of those skirts then too if he really wanted to "honor" his state or what have you.

Yeah, I'm not sure either one will rate a big thread. Figured together we could save some board clutter. And they are both college football related.

Te'o was set up to be given the Heisman this year. He's had every award given to him, plus one, that Charles Wooodson had the year he won the Heisman. If Te'o doesn't win it I will be shocked.

He should be the clear winner. He broke the SEC record for total offense in a season. The guy who held the record before him won the Heisman. If Te'o had taken a couple of his picks to the house I could've maybe agreed a little more with his candidacy.

Colin Klein would be winning this if he didn't blow it against Baylor. That being said, he's a great football player, and I hope he leads K-State to an upset over Oregon. Klein won't win tonight, but he deserves to be there.

I respect the hell out of Manti T'eo. He's got some of the best linebacker instincts of anyone who plays that position right now, and I have a feeling that he will translate very well into the NFL. But I can't bring myself to endorse him for the award for two reasons: 1) I hate Notre Dame, and 2) For a defensive guy to win, I think he needs to find multiple ways to get the ball in his hands, a la Charles Woodson. T'eo is a playmaker, but he's not as versatile as Woodson was, and I think Woodson set the standard for any defensive player that had any hope to win the Heisman. T'eo is one of the best football players in college football right now, but I hope I live long enough to never see another defensive player win the Heisman other than Woodson.

Here's to you, Johnny Football.

I hate this song. I really hate it. And yet ESPN insists on playing it every commercial break. Rather listen to Pitbull at this point.

Texas A&M has only one Heisman winner with John David Crow in 1957. Notre Dame has 7 Heisman winners. Kansas St has no Heisman trophy winner.  Kleion  Klien  k

Klein would be a legend at Kansas St if he wins the vote without winning a national title or playing for one.

ESPN is bugging the hell out of me, while trying to hype this Heisman show, all of the sudden Woodson wasn't a priimarily defensive player they're trying to convince us, really?

Sir Charles played 90% on defense, he had some punt returns and played a few plays on offense, quit trying to make it sound like Te'o would be the 1st defensive player, FU espn assholes

Oh my, Desmond Howard... telling Te'o how "cute" his necklace is.  Subtly asserting his Alpha male status over the young bucks.

Why does nobody point out the fact that Manziel is not really even a freshman?  He is a sophmore in college who happens to have the eligibility of a freshman, totally different accomplishment if he wins vs. a true freshman winning IMO.  Him winning this year is really not any different then Tebow winning as a true sophmore.

Sick of the parsing of roles. Charles is the first and greatest defensive player to win the Heisman.. Perhaps Te'o is exclusive to D because he can't contribute to O like Charles ...
