ESPN on Forcier's 4Q

Submitted by psychomatt on

Yeah it was a rough day, but I was just watching highlights of the game on ESPN News and whoever was talking over the video said "If Tebow is Superman, Tate Forcier is right next to the phone booth."

Edit: Another ESPN classic quote about the game:

"Rich Rodriguez said earlier in the week he'd like the Wolverines to be good enough to play poorly and still win. He got his wish."

I don't necessarily think it was that "rough" of a day to be honest. In the first half, he clearly made a nice throw to Matthews, and the lack on an interference call was just absolutely horrible, we should've had 6 points. He threw 2 nice passes to Webb & Kelvin Grady and they just flat out dropped them. Statistically, he should've had a much better day, but a combination of the officals and dropped balls compromized that.

Here are his 4th quarter stats in case anyone is interested. If anyone wants to make a chart, feel free to do so.

5 rushes for 19 yards (6 for 27 including the 2-point conversion), a TD and a 2-point conversion
3/4 passing for 48 yards and a TD
He also had a sack/intentional grounding call for -12 yards

Tim Tebow IS the college football equivalent of Superman: inexorable, straight forward, in your face, perfect brute strength. Tebow has no weaknesses until he does. He is something to be overcome.

Forcier, on the other hand, is nothing but imperfection. 5'1'', not even 200 lbs. He works through guile, wisecracks as he jinxes past men almost twice his size. Beaten, bruised, counted out, left for dead.

And yet.

In the end, Tate rises past his imperfection, becomes more than what he is. He needs to. While guys like Tebow and Pryor only need to tap their talent to succeed, Tate needs to exceed it. And he does.
