I don't know all the legalities around releasing names, but I thought you couldn't release the names of someone who's not charged of a crime if they were a minor when the alleged incident occurred.  I'm definitely not defending MSU, but I thought minors were protected if they were only accused of a crime.

That sort of misses the point, though.  Whether legal or not, the names were released.  Sparty fans are livid but not because he may have been a minor.  They're mad he was named when not charged.  It's directly the equivalent of Brendan Gibbons.

For Sparty is getting deeper by the day. Their plan to beat the story into fiction can only lead to a worse conclusion. Engler is going to lobby with State legislators? Yikes!

had anything to do with the sexual violence in jail. I believe that the basketball, football, and gymnastics cases DO link up (as the Dept of Ed alleges). But this is not a smart move or good journalism by ESPN. It should have just outlined the new case and referenced, or linked, the other issues. Devotes way more space to a poor rehash of the other cases than the one referenced in the headline.

Don’t blame ESPN one bit (they probably have way more dirt on MSU that what they are reporting. MSU came out straight out of the gate and said ESPN was lying, so ESPN comes back with even more evidence that backs their original reporting.

I can't believe more UM fans can't put aside their fandom for a second and see a problem with ruining the life of a kid by plastering his name on the Internet for eternity when he hasn't even been charged with a crime.  The author did not even see a police report.

Contrary to the popular opinion expressed on this board, I think this will be the beginning of the end for this entire story.  This is so reckless and unethical I think the tide is going to turn very quickly against ESPN.

we had a couple of cats calling themselves journalists about a decade ago throwing all types of shit at the wall, one a UM grad breaching every journalistic ethic ever taught him. This did not stop him. He went after UM hard and their football coach, specifically, calling him out if he were late for supper. He went so far as to attach the integrity of a well respected, fully tenured, award winning professor. Did not matter that he could find nothing, the beat just continued to go on. In the end he took the major beating, as it should have been, but even though it was in another world, far far away from the one we live in, something tells me he had a good time even though he knew everything he was reporting was bullshit. Good luck, but some of these reporters just won't be denied.

The comments on the ESPN article are something else. MSU people in full force defending the honor of their saint. It’s getting to be Penn st levels of delusion by their fan base. They are even blaming Michigan for this being reported. Living in their heads rent free since 1900.

in order to put the nail in the coffin on dantonio or Izzo, they will need somethiing to hueg to force the issue that MSU can't pass off on..

Rumor Has It ESPN is investigating and possibly doing a story on former MSU Student Andrew Kehoe. Kehoe used dynamite to cause 45 fatalities in Bath Township, the biggest school massacre in US history May 18, 1927. ( Note: Sorry Mr Kehoe for plastering your name all over the internet without reading your police report)
