Early opportunity at some Nike gear
A seller on ebay is selling off a collection from a former assistant equipment manager, including a lot of old (but brand new) Nike gear. Here is a link just to the Nike stuff. Some stuff is priced very well, others not so much. You can make offers though, I was able to get a sweatshirt for a fair price. He has a price set up for each auction that he will automatically accept so don't use the buy it now right away. Hopefully a few of you will be interested in this. I have no part in these sales, just trying to help.

I used to work (remotely) for a large medical device company in Blue Ash, OH. It's a nice area and I had a chance to move there but I just couldn't get myself to do it (because it's in Ohio). I truly couldn't imagine putting Ohio license plates on my car. I considered trying to live in Kentucky but that was just a little too far.

I typed all of those digits into Google and up popped a name from Mason, Ohio.

Yeah, all this stuff certainly looks like it was straight from the 90's.

Well damnit, I told myself I wasn't going to buy anything else for this season.

There's an online store that still has a nice selection of Nike stuff...

I ordered a bunch of stuff a couple of years ago thinking that we would never go back to Nike. The style was more baggy at that time so don't be afraid to order a size smaller.

Tried to buy a t shirt for a buck. No dice. Oh well.

Yesterday I rocked my blue fitted with maize M, Nike swoosh on the side and Michigan printed on the back. My director thought I had some new Nike gear but it is my same hat from years ago.
August 21st, 2015 at 2:15 PM ^
They should go ahead and put everything 50% off right now.
August 21st, 2015 at 2:49 PM ^
a month or so ago. Damn near everything was 50-60% off. I'm guessing they will have sales like that off and on throughout the year.
August 21st, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
They generally have a sale in the summer around the time of the Art Fair, before their new fall stuff comes in.

Forgive me for not knowing the names, I just don't pay attention to that stuff. I go a real nice 70$ polo for 30 at the place on state.

a scroll through that collection makes it clear that--at least from an aesthetic standpoint--Nike design is in no way intrinsically superior to Adidas. It's a dog-eat-dog world, and I am happy if Michael Jordan and Nike snag us one or two more great players. But tribal war over branding is just dumb.

All that stuff is basically 20 years old
August 21st, 2015 at 2:53 PM ^
I'm aware of that.
August 21st, 2015 at 3:00 PM ^
Then you can't possibly compare modern Adidas stuff to 20 year old Nike stuff. Fabrics, styles and designs have all changed significantly in 20 years.
August 21st, 2015 at 3:43 PM ^
didn't.
Carl Cohen is still teaching Logic & Language over at the RC. Hell of a prof, whether you come down on the same side of every issue with him or not. (You will get there for more carefully worked-out reasons.)

I'm not even sure what you're talking about at this point.
Point being, your comment that, "Nike design is in no way intrinsically superior to Adidas", cannot be concluded because you're comparing things 20+ years apart and using the design of either as evidence of a conclusion you can't possibly make with that evidence.

across a 50-year period, and saying that any argument about the intrinsic superiority of one over the other is bunk, just not rigorous, let alone provable.

because you or the first person to respond doesn't does not change what my post actually SAYS, which is--simply--that Nike gear can in no way be rigorously be described as better. Maybe you guys are young and can only see it from a latter-day perspective; that's not my problem. Nor does it change what my post said.
Read it again--I think you'll get it.
And just to address your next argument, OF COURSE a lot of the slavish anti-Adidas BS is about Nike being better cumulatively. A great deal of it talks about "going back," etc. (There was a reason we left, of course.)
You're absolutely right that it's about taste; I said that above. (That's the "just not provable" part.) That's the point.
Carl Cohen really has set many generations of M grads on the road to more rigorous thinking, btw. Having the grey matter to begin with is critical, but all can be helped. :)

Most of that stuff is from within 10 yrs, Nike probably gave them a bunch of stuff at the end of their contract. The hoodie I got from him has 2007 on the tag, it's therma-fit, basically the same thing as dri-fit.

The gall of this guy, selling a cheap pair of replica shorts for $134 and calling them "Authentic Fab 5" shorts. Nike didn't make the Fab Five-era uniforms. (And their shorts were just a tad longer.)

I can't tell if this guy was super savvy to hang on to this old, new Nike stuff, or if we are stupid for thinking a bunch of crap from the 90s is worth three times what it cost at the time. Maybe both?
