This probably doesn't need its own thread, but I'm not surprised (per conversation toward the end of the previous thread - I even guessed the new name!). This makes me think that EA has been aware of the NCAA's decision for a while though, and has been working on getting permission from the individual universities to use their logos and stadiums and such.

This means no NCAA logos on the field. Also means that there will be no NCAA football tournament, which means it is exactly like real life.

The actual playoff will be unaffected.

I call the Michigan University Elk for next year's online dynasty. Sophomore QB Steve Morris and sophomore running back Derrick Blue should be a killer 1-2 offensive combo.

Is going to say "hey, the NCAA thought it was a good idea to get out, but let's make a couple of bucks off this game and open ourselves up to the lawsuits instead"....?  Who is going to license out their programs and open themselves up to the player likeness issue directly?

First, the suit only works as a class action.  By licensing individually, schools have reduced the potential class size by 120x, perhaps making it more difficult to certify, while at the same time making the respective lawsuits much more costly.  Second, many college athletes and former college athletes may sign on to sue the NCAA, but might have second thoughts on filing a similar suit against their alma mater.  Especially if those athletes have any interest in returning and/or using the universities contacts for future job opportunities.

I'm not sure the schools are adding much liability.  In any event, the O'bannon suit is still going to decide what happens going forward, which may or may not take effect before the new, NCAA-less, version is released.

EA always licensed the team logos from the teams themselves, not the NCAA. Really I don't see anything other than the name and maybe some field logos changing. Otherwise it's going to be the same game.
