Duke Loses Posbang!!

Not a traditional posbang, but anytime Coach Kryzskdaghdsaski and Grayson loses is worth a celebration. What a weekend!!

We want Kansas. Follow the Kenpom numbers, always. We'd actually be favored slightly against them I believe (in Kenpom). The difference between Michigan and Loyola is about equal to the difference between Villanova and Michigan.

There is a huge difference between the senior leadership between MAAR and Grayson Allen. Both had the ball with seconds remaining in regulation. MAAR chose to pass to a teammate that had a better shot, while Grayson took on 4 defenders and leaving at least 2 of his teammates wide open. You know the ending, we are headed to San Antonio, they are headed home. Go Blue!!

I mean... were they good shooters? Duke has literally 1 other player besides Allen who has taken at least 50 threes and shoots better than 30% (this relatively poor shooting team for Beilein has 7, as a comparison), and that's center Marvin bagley who surely wasn't on the perimeter in a situation like that.

I hate Allen as much as the next guy, but there's enough reasons to hate him already without really stretching it like in this example. I think Allen wanted his team to win just as much as MAAR does.

I didn’t think he went himself over team. He had willed his team to a 3 point lead during a scoring drought, and that last second shot was basically down and spun out. A senior captain takes that shot. Grayson Allen is very punchable for a lot of reasons, but I didn’t think today was one of them.

A senior captain puts his TEAM in a position to win. He played hero ball and missed two wide open teammates with better shots. My point is, MAAR could have taken the shot, but he didn’t. Most of us wouldn’t have been mad had he taken it. He saw a freshmen who had a slightly better shot and gave it to him. I have no problem with a player putting a team on his shoulder and willing them to victory. But that last possession was a selfish play. He wanted to be the hero. That’s why they are headed home..

Eh, this comparison is forced.

MAAR did take what seemed like our last shot in the Houston game, dribbling it under 10 seconds and then driving (and missing).

On the last-second play, he drew a double-team at midcourt and could never have gotten off a plausible shot.  If he'd had any kind of legitimate look at the basket, he'd have probably taken it, like he did against Maryland. Which is fine - someone's got to shoot it and it may as well be your leader.

There was nothing wrong with Allen's shots.  The one at the end of regulation was halfway down and then rimmed out - tough luck.

The only one that I’d really pick on if I’m the coach or whatever, like Krwerskczwiczski, but with a soul, would be that late one where he tried to drive the lane right into a bunch of skyscrapers. I’d be good with him shooting from the field, or passing to someone better suited to finish against those Kansas trees guarding the rim. Even that one I can’t really criticize too harshly. He is a dick that should be sent to Siberia to live among polar bears, or whatever lives there, but that is a different thread maybe.

That final shot in regulation was not great.  He's fading away and trying to bank it off the board over two defenders, which wouldn't bother me all that much except he held onto the ball for what, 8 seconds prior rather than pass off and try to come off a pick for a cleaner look?

Look, the shot falls, and he joins the pantheon of Duke heros like Laettner and Reddick.  The problem is, I actually believe this fact was a consideration in his mind when he was driving to the hoop at the end.  The kid definitely seems to be in love with the idea of being a Duke legend.

Why? I like Duke. They are a clean program, no?
Hating on them because they are good, is very spartylike and small.
