This is just one of the ways in which mgoblog has traversed beyond its originally planned stopping point and actually become the recreation and entertainment, instead of the games. Are dark times ahead? naaaaah.

About 10 years ago, yes....and we are working our way out of it even now.
February 23rd, 2018 at 12:35 AM ^
Send Drevno on his way.
February 23rd, 2018 at 12:54 AM ^
I'm not sure how to feel about this. The running game was decent once we stopped trying to run zone. Then again I ask, why were we running zone in the first place and why did we go back to it once it became obvious we were a better power running team? If that's on Drevno, then I would be glad to see him gone. Our passing game was a whole different matter. It sucked no matter who we were playing or who our QB was. Can I blame Drevno for that? Or is it on Pep? I guess I can always fall back on our inability to pass block. That has to be on Drevno since he was our OL coach, correct?
February 23rd, 2018 at 2:50 AM ^
It was decent against not good teams. Our line has been unable to produce against good to elite teams.
February 23rd, 2018 at 5:18 AM ^
U-M ran for 4.8 per carry vs. OSU (sacks removed)
February 23rd, 2018 at 5:36 AM ^
Maybe you can blame it on all freshmen WRs, the most ready of which was injured early, and using three QBs during the season. Add in a bit of a recruiting hole left by Hoke and the transition and some recruiting misses that you may or may not be able to suscribe to nefarious tactics.
This Drevno sucks thing is overblown. And if the offense improves next season you will all point to this instead of another year of development and a competent, uninjured QB.
February 23rd, 2018 at 8:26 AM ^
Everything you said is true, but you left out some important information. Like the fact that Drevno coaches the OL, which was responsible for the 3 QB thing. Also, and this was the final straw to me - we had a month to practice for the bowl game and yet the offense looked like a bad JV team in the bowl. It's time to try someone else.

Get my hopes up and crush me
February 23rd, 2018 at 4:59 AM ^
Whatever I did in a past life to deserve the Millen years with the Lions, the trainwreck that was Dick Rod immediately followed by Chris Farley aka Brady Hoke, I'm sorry
I'm so so sorry.
Please take Drevno away from Michigan
February 23rd, 2018 at 5:36 AM ^
Drevno was obviously rough as an OC, but had a good track record as an OL coach and the running game was really picking up as last season went on. I wouldn't have minded him staying as an OL coach, but I also don't blame him for moving on if he didn't want the demotion. I'd guess he'd be getting an OC gig at Vandy
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:47 AM ^
If he was a good OL coach, he must have been great at convincing people about it.
Because the performances on the field spoke the exact opposite.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:49 AM ^
The running game picked up against Big Ten bottom feeders in Rutgers, Minnesota and Maryland. Have to remember the level of competition it was going up against. The last three games of the season, when the competition got much better, told a different story.
February 23rd, 2018 at 7:17 AM ^
He did not throw cold water on it, and listening between the lines, it sounds like there might be something legit to it.
We'll see.
February 23rd, 2018 at 8:45 AM ^
Seemed just short of a confirmation that it's happening.
I was walking my dog and streaming on my phone, but did it sound like there could be another move? It sounded like he said more guyS could be moving. I may be reading too much into it, or it may have just been intentional ambiguity.
I'll listen again when the podcasts publish to iTunes.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:23 AM ^
but he did mention the possibility of other staff members taking on additional and/or different responsibilities.
The obvious ones would probably be Warriner to OL coach and McElwain assuming OC responsibilities in addition to WR.
February 23rd, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
As someone noted above, Sam said he has a gut feeling. He didn't say exactly what it was about, but the strong implication was that it was Drevno leaving. Sam again gave the strong message that Drevno is likely out during the recruiting roundup.

Guess drevno didn’t appreciate the demotion.

We need to wait until Calvin Anderson commits before he leaves
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:58 AM ^
Justify keeping a coach.
February 23rd, 2018 at 11:47 AM ^
True but the o line has been terrible and if Patterson is eligible I think we all are very confident in michigans chances at a good post season and having a guy who is experienced and could be our best lineman is worth it. Again he could've left after Idc. But Patterson could be one and done as well so giving him the best players around him is very important
February 23rd, 2018 at 11:04 AM ^
Lol at thinking Drevno was going to close on a highly competitive recruitment of a tackle, we probably have a better chance now than we did with Drevno.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:16 AM ^
So, Drevno's son is apparently a hihly ranked long snapper and choose Vanderbuilt over Michigan as a walk-on. I think this is where the rumor (true or not) is comming from.
February 23rd, 2018 at 10:56 AM ^
He landed at Vanderbilt to coach under Derick Mason (a Harbuagh disciple). As a result, his son will follow him as a PWO at Vandy.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:32 AM ^
Does UM find a replacement for Drevno if he does indeed leave? Not so much to find someone to take over his duties but someone to keep the same the staff number.
I'm wondering if/when Anderson chooses Texas over UM that that would have been the final mark against Drevno.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:31 AM ^
I'd be happier if it was Pep that were gone.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:26 AM ^
I'd be happier if it was Pep that were gone.
February 23rd, 2018 at 10:11 AM ^
He bears more responsibility for our sputtering offense than Pep.
I know people love some Fisch, but if he was so great, what happened to getting more out of the PepCat? That was stale and ineffective by the OSU game. Why wasn't O'Korn any better after two years under Fisch? I liked Fisch, but he wasn't irreplaceable. I just don't know if Pep was the right replacement.
February 23rd, 2018 at 10:40 AM ^
Our run game was average last year but our pass game was among the worst in the whole damn country. The pass blocking did suck but even when it didn't suck we couldn't do shit through the air. I too would rather have Pep gone over Drevno but both leaving would be the most ideal situation.
February 23rd, 2018 at 1:13 PM ^
Drevno did ok with Cole, Onwenu, Ruiz. Newsome wasn't his fault. Pep didn't do anything. It's kind of redundant to have him as passing game coordinator when you have Harbaugh.
February 23rd, 2018 at 7:11 PM ^
Completely agree. We all know any Rich Rod offense is essentially coached by Rich Rod, an urban meyer offense coached by urban. It's time for Harbaugh to do the same. Pep should have as little responsibility as possible. His role is already filled by Jim.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:34 AM ^
Let’s this be true!!
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:37 AM ^
I'm assuming this is all smoke and no fire until proven otherwise, but if it does indeed prove to be true, I hope Warriner is promoted to OL coach the minute Drevno walks out the door. McElwain can continue coaching the receivers, Pep can still coordinate the passing game if need be, but Harbaugh calls the plays. One less cook in the kitchen.
Honestly even if the only thing that happened was that Warriner was promoted to OL coach, I'd be as happy as a pig in shit. His offensive lines at OSU were destructive forces of nature, and while Ezekiel Elliott gets all the credit, the OL was what won them their national title.
February 23rd, 2018 at 9:54 AM ^
I scanned the boards the OP is referencing and there seems to be two posters with rumblings. Both have mentioned Drevno and one mentioning both Drevno and Hamilton as likely gone. For whatever random internet posts are worth.
Regarding Warriner, hell yeah! OSU's O line was able to push around Bama during their NC run. Oregon's D line had no chance.

If this is true and Drevno does leave, I hope they can keep Nolan Rumler committed to '19 class. He's already said on many occasions that " Drev " is his " Guy "
Lose Drevno and keep Rumler!! Go Blue!!
