Doug Gillett profile of Coach Rod for Dr. Saturday

Fair, balanced, and honest, complete with quote from the Fearless Leader and Maize and Brew.

From the Hot Seat: Rich Rodriguez at the crossroads

I really just wanted to include this because Gillett gets in another money quote about Michigan football:

But "rocky transition" doesn't quite seem like an adequate description of the last two years. The transfer of power from Clinton to Bush in 2000 was a "rocky transition"; for the proud UM fan base, this has proven to be more like a waking nightmare. The Wolverines do not take coaching changes lightly – over the past century, there have been only two more Michigan coaches than popes(*) – but there's only so much a program can be expected to take.

* - In case you're wondering 11 coaches from 1910-2010, 9 popes 1910-2010, and if you're looking for a parallel, strictly from a time in office perspective, George Little (1924) is the John Paul I (1978) of this analogy.

I hope RR wins so we don't have to talk about this crap in the offseason. Although I guess it's no worse than the one hundred record predictions.

I think Doug has always had a soft spot for us, and I've had a soft spot for Georgia largely because of him (and I feel for his appliances).

Hopefully he'll re-open HJS when football season comes around.

Michigan may have one of the most recognizable fight songs in all of college football, but "Hail To to Victors" seems to have been replaced lately with a remix of Talking Heads: "This is not my beautiful offense! This is not my all-time winningest college football program! My God! What have I done?"
Mr. Gillett, if the fight song is so recognizable, why can't you get the name correct?
