Dorm Room Selection
This is gonna sound very internet, but I'm 3 degrees out from supposed inside info on 1 of our early enrollees. I have no reason to doubt the source, but I thought something he said sounded shaky. Do football players room with the general population on campus?? I assumed the football players roomed together.

Football players room with each other but might be on the SAME HALL as GEN POP. If there's an issue where a player can't be matched up with another football roommate for whatever reason, then yes, a mere mortal could be put in with a football player.

4 years ago. South quad had a bunch of other athletes (there were some gymnists and baseball players in my hall my second year) but no football players.

all football players are in west quad now and every one i've known of lives with another football player. i guess if there's an odd number of incoming players they could get mixed with someone else but i have never heard of this happening.
and i think south quad still houses gymnasts and baseball players. i know west quad houses football, hockey, basketball, wrestling, and women's water polo (a friend of mine is on the team)

We have womens water polo, baseball, and volleyball in Squad, and i've seen track-field and softball throughout the building as well.

How do you start playing water polo?? Sport looks fun and all, but I never would have imagined Mich had a team. Is that a rich person kinda sport??

It's just a "school with a pool" type of sport. It's not like you're buying horses. Michigan has a really good water polo team, I think.

water polo is big in southern california. I would say that it is the same popularity as lacrosse is on the east coast. I speak from personal experience becuase i grew up playing water polo and still play for a masters team

Well based on that info it appears the informer seems to be losing some cred. as I believe he is a good athlete but not playing any athletics at UM so he shouldn't in the West Quad.

You don't have to be in any athletics program here to live in West Quad.

I know that Track and Hockey players were in Adams (WQ) and I believe all the football and bball players were in South Quad.

Re we talking about roommates? There are seven early enrollees, right? WC, Tate, Vlad, Brandon Hawthorne, Mike Jones, and Vincent Smith and LaLota. Seven total, unless there are three rooming together somewhere, there is one that has a nopn-football roommate, right?

Scholarship football was in West Quad (usually in the basement, I think) and walk-ons in South Quad. Hockey and basketball were also in West Quad, just one more factor in the Snow Ball Fight dominance. However for the January enrollees they may have to scramble to find them a room, seeing as it's mid-year and all.

Football and basketball players were in South Quad until about 10 years ago, when they were switched to West Quad. Not sure why they did that. (Of course, any athletes in the Residential College - like Dhani Jones! - get to live in East Quad. He lived right down the hall from me.)

A guy I knew in school was roommates with a football player, and he was definitely not an athlete. It was a walk-on, but a football player nonetheless. I think it was a random assignment, too.

I actually had a room in West Quad this year (Fall08/W09) before I left. I am pretty sure football players live in WQ as that is where their special dining hall is

I have no info..like I said in my post I am supposedly 3 degrees removed from 1st hand accounts of conditioning and practice. I have no reason to doubt the person...just thought the story was a little shaky. If I receive any info of note I'd be glad to share, but I wanted to try and check some of the facts of the story 1st. Like I said very internet kind of story I hate. Just looking for facts from the guys in the know here, but the facts posted look a little conflicting.
