Donate to Brian

Submitted by doughboy on
With all the talk about Brian's revenue, it got me thinking that I hadn't done my part to make sure this site stays up and running. So I clicked on the Make A Donation button (upper right-hand corner, for those who haven't seen it) and gave Brian some dead Presidents. I write this only to encourage all of the bloggers who have enjoyed this site to continue to support it in whatever way they can. Either through direct contributions or hitting the ads on the site or continuing to add content to the discussions. I spent a couple of years being a lurker on this site before actually posting, and I'm glad I stayed with it. This site has become my insight to Michigan sports and my daily (muliple times) dose of interesting/fun discussions. It's obvious to me that this is a group that loves Michigan sports and loves the University of Michigan. Thanks Brian for starting/sharing/continuing this endeavor.

any way i can get a fashionable yet sturdy canvas tote with my donation? this is a great idea though, a couple of blogs i enjoy have recently had to shut down because of money issues. i would hate to see that happen here.

You obviously didn't read the Monday posts. 100 percent of your donations this week go to Paul and Tim, so if your intent was to give to Brian, you might want to wait until next Monday.

I think Brian should make us pay to read the site. Get rid of the ads and upgrade the website and there would be less traffic so the pages would upload quicker for me. I this would def be worth it and then I wouldn't have to feel guilty about never donating, although I did buy a shirt once.

As a broke student, there isn't much chance of me being able to donate. However, I will definitely be donating in the future.

trick innocent doughboy into thinking he is giving them money and funnel it instead to shady guys who go only by first names and whose main claim to fame is stalking kids in vans and "interviewing" them.... BOOM SHARPED. Oh boy, I knew Drew Sharp was coming after Brian next, just didn't think the story would break right here on mgoblog...

Who's this "Brian" guy, anyway? Does he have contact information posted somewhere? Or is he just another blogger hiding behind an internet persona, an enigma wrapped in an enigma? Same goes for "Tim" and "Paul"?

I have twice donated to Brian before, but with the growth of the site, my assumption is that there is a nice steady stream of income coming from Google ad placement and clicking on the ads themselves, which is why Tim and others have come onboard. I know a home improvement blogger who has not nearly the following of Brian and made 125k last year just from ad placement. I could be way off, so someone with more knowledge please correct me. If I'm ignorant of reality I'll rectify it financially.

It's the clean up of the dead hooker bodies after that is kind of a drag. Maybe if enough people donate Brian can hire someone to take care of that.

Who cares whether Brian makes $1 or $1 million from this blog? He has the beveled guilt button up there for a reason; I consider him a stand up guy, so I doubt he'd still have it up there if he was "Scrooge McDucking" around in his palatial MGoPad. I'm sure his ads are successful, but it isn't necessarily the golden-goose business model of internet that everyone dreams about. Maybe he has ideas for even more people/features and raising some more capital will help with that? If you find this blog of value, and there's a donation button available, I'd say the choice is pretty clear.

The "this week's revenue shall go to them!" post made it sound like that was a new twist in revenue sharing. My take is, give or don't give, that's your business. But don't be posting a bunch of BS rationalizing why you don't. That makes it our business, and we will mock you for your self-serving reasoning.

I can definitely see a subscription model working without making the information on lockdown. Maybe for some type of annual fee a subscriber gets: MgoMember status A copy of HTTV20XX An ad-free site, when logged in Just throwing it out there, I'm sure Brian has thought this over way way before any of us could mention it. Just saying' I'd pay for that in addition to supporting through the MgoStore.
