the trollz think that next season Michigan is going to completely regress. Knowing this man is our D Coord for pretty much ever, is a great feeling. I don't think the trollz realize how many underclassmen are getting significant snaps in before garbage time. I could not be happier that Don Brown is with us and not against us, could you imagine playing his defense?

The defense will regress. We have an all-time Dline, a pantheon cornerback in Lewis to compliment a great defensive backfield, and a generational athlete in Peppers. You can't just replace all of that talent; not even Ohio State and Alabama just replace that kind of talent.

Working in our favor, Don Brown's defenses usually take a huge step in the second year as he gets the extra time coaching the players and installing the complexities of his scheme.

And we have some great athletes coming down the pipeline. There will be some growing pains, but there will still be terrific defense in the future.

Assuming we hang onto Brown for a few years, we will see great defense every season. But this? This is unique. This is special. This is something we'll never forget.

The Spartan fans are looking at their shitty season and try to console themselves saying "every team goes through this" while ignoring the example of OSU and Bama.

Fundamentally, their flaw is thinking Michigan is closer to MSU than OSU/Bama. They're wrong about that, but they won't figure that out til next year.

There is no way our D doesn't regress somewhat, because this is one of the greatest years we've ever head. But what about on offense? I'm not sure what our OL picture will look like next year, but we bring back a ton of talent and are finally starting to put some of Harbaugh's pieces together. If the light really comes on for Speight and he wins the competition next year, he'll have a pretty decent arsenal around him.

Braden, Kalis, and Magnuson are gone from the OL. Butt, Chesson, and Darboh are gone from the receiving corps. Smith is gone from the RB corps.

OL is going to be young and nervous. Hopefully this promising OL recruiting class comes on in, and hopefully one or two of them are ready to go. I'm worried that the Newsome injury will affect him next year (frankly, the things they say about it makes it sound like the Antonio Bass situation again, hopefully not that bad), and that leaves us with Cole in the middle, Bredeson at one of the guard spots, and a cobbled together group of guys who can't get on the field this year.

I'm optimistic that we'll get good production from the TE spot. I'm not sure what we'll get from our young receivers, but hopefully a combination of DPP (c'mon man, come to Michigan) and a leap from Crawford or McDoom or both (or someone else, I guess) will make the position stable. I think our RBs will be terrific.

And we have either Improved Speight or Redshirt Freshman Peters Who Beat Speight at QB, so that position should at least be stable.

So it's a rebuild on both sides. Next year's team is going to have a ton of different names making the key plays. They'll be young. They'll make mistakes. They'll be outmatched in a game and lose a game they shouldn't.

And virtually every one of them will be back in 2018, ready to destroy the world.

Really? We lose Butt, Darboh, Chesson Smith, Kalis, Mags, Braden and possibly Cole. Not to mention Peppers and the Pepcat. I'm more concerned about the line than the skills positions. Who is left tackle next year if Newsome doesn't return?

OSU did. Bama did not. OSU is still quite good, but they are not as dominant defensively as last season. There has been a drop-off.

Our roster is not as balanced as OSU and Bama right now; the guys that would be seniors next year are guys that were recruited a declining Brady Hoke, whose one real triumph that season (Peppers) would be a fool to stay in college. Harbaugh's first class was ok, but the most promising guy in it is already off the team. So the guys that should be rising in leadership aren't there. It's reasonable to think that a defense relying heavily on sophomores is going to have some growing pains.

I live in Sacramento, CA and went to one of the satellitel camps in Sacramento, CA this year. I met Don Brown and he ended up speaking to me for a few minutes. Great conversation and great guy to talk to. He was really coaching the young high school kids for the entire camp.

And complex defenses often start with communication from the safeties on down. The fact that there have been so few busts this year is a great credit to Thomas and Hill.

He must be so thrilled to have this kind of talent to work with compared to what he had at his last job.
