It could very well go fine, but I think the point is Mayfield was elite and Haskins has proven to be a top tier QB this year.  Martell is not proven at all to be anything in college yet, so it could absolutely be a work in progress.  I just do not believe this will be a seamless transition from Meyer to Day, but time will tell.

Of course it does. Recruiting never drops off too far for them, though.

There is opportunity for Michigan to do better in Ohio. '19 class is a nice start to that end.

All the uncertainty surrounding Meyer's future did hurt their recruiting. It had slowed to a crawl since summer.

It will pick up now that a new coach has been named. Unlikely that it regains the consistent level it had under Meyer.

Well, OSU has always been a recruiting juggernaut and Urban has put a high priority on his assistants being able to recruit so I suspect they will continue to be strong here unless Day gets rid of people and/or brings in new staff, which I doubt he will beyond normal turnover with assistants leaving for other positions.  But, at the same time Urban has been a great recruiter his whole career so there's certainly a possibility it will take a step back, at least temporarily, and then Day's results on the field in the next few years will probably have an impact on that as well.

Most of the defensive staff is gone. Schiano is gone, Bill Davis is gone, Kevin WIlson likely leaves, Hartline probably stays so long as Day and he get along. Not sure about Grinch, but he is an Ohio guy, and even though last year was his 1st at OSU, he and his family were probably happy to be back closer to home after being at WSU for a few years.  A big question will be Larry Johnson

But, going back to a larger point of this thread, their 2018 class had 26 recruits. Only 3 were ranked lower than 4 stars.  Even if they're still superb, I doubt they can keep that up year over year.

Also, I heard Urban told the team he was leaving during his pre-game speech against Michigan.  Explains things to a small extent, in my mind.  No wonder they had their best showing of the season

I remember when Bo died prior to the 2006 game thinking that it would galvanize the team to a similar result and turn the tide back in the rivalry, but :/

Yeah, and Lloyd & Meyer play by a different set of rules.  I can imagine Lloyd not wanting to tell his guys he's retiring so that it is not a distraction to them and wouldn't want it to be about him.  He was very unselfish in that way.  Meyer on the other hand would use it to his advantage.  Lloyd was much more stoic whereas Meyer is more manipulative and not over using anything to boost is legacy.

Forgive me because I can’t remember the article written, but I believe something was posted here a few months ago that Ohio State recruits were promised urban wasn’t going anywhere. I can’t imagine that will help them in this class alone.

Tressel's leaving helped OSU's recruiting. Meyer was much better at it. Or he just aimed higher, focusing less on Ohio, more nationally.

OSU will always be able to recruit well, but Meyer was considered a top 3 coach and that certainly helped. Star power matters.

Day will have his work cut out for him. He's barely known, with a resume that one wouldn't expect for a HC at a top program. I don't know if OSU is paying players, but they're competing with programs that do. It wouldn't surprise me if they place more emphasis on recruiting Ohio and the rest of the Big Ten footprint.

I imagine most of the offensive recruits will stay committed as Ryan Day was probably involved with a lot of them as the OC and now HC. The defensive recruits is where they might see decommits.

OSU gets great recruits. Losing Urban Meyer may hurt them in certain locations but they will still get great athletes. He is a great coach and definitely had Michigan's number. I wish Michigan had beaten one of his teams.

Edit: Michigan did beat his Florida team. I was thinking of his OSU teams.

Yeah, offense wasn't really a big issue this year. We went from 85th in S&P+ last year to 24th this year. You'd still like to see it inch closer to the top 10, but yeah, offense wasn't the issue. That's not to say there aren't valid criticisms (like how we still run the entire 40 seconds off of the play clock when we're down a couple of scores).

I am in the camp that it could help them even in this current cycle. He was a immoral cloud over the program that I think some parents wanted their kids to avoid. With him gone, I actually think it increases their chances of getting some kids that were being told to by their parents to think twice given the kind of person Urban is.

I think in the short term their recruiting will continue to be high, after all they are a football factory. That said, in the long term will they begin to slip? Will Day be able to pull in the high caliber coaches that Urban was? Time will tell.

Every transition creates uncertainty.  I think it negatively impacts this year, but probably not a ton long term.  Of course, unless OSU's defense shits the bed again and more Purdue's happen next year.  Day will clean house as well (Wilson and Schiano gone) which can be dicey for a first time head coach.

His name is not Urb, or Urbs, or Urbz. I don't understand the cute nicknames that UM fans give him.
